Border Terriers Judge Jayne Gillam (Orenberg) It was a great privilege to be asked to judge at this show & I would like to thank the exhibitors for such a quality entry. Some hard decisions had to be made as I found several dogs & bitches well worthy of winning a CC & in some of the senior classes there were just not enough prize cards to go around. Minor Puppy Dog (9,3a) 1 Davis’ Hesslemere Hi Karate, eyecatching bl/t, super head & expression, good legs, feet & firm pasterns, well presented in super coat & pelt, moved well & showed very confidently for one so young. BP, made the cut for BPIS; 2 Irving’s Dandyhow Masterpiece, nice sized puppy, less mature than 1 but lots to like, lithe narrow body with straight forelegs, super feet & pasterns, good coat & pelt, moved well once settled. Head needs to come; 3 Morton Shaw’s Fehmarn Reap The Harvest. Puppy Dog (11,4) 1 Vasey & Peacock’s Ruelata Boulder, nicely balanced youngster, very well presented & shown, liked his head, expression & dark eye, neat ears, stood well on good legs & feet, kept a good topline both standing & moving; 2 Gilpin’s Otterbobs Popplewell, looked good in profile, just a tad harder to span than 1. OK head, nice neckline into shoulders, neat feet, nicely angulated in the rear which he used with drive; 3 Dean’s Allstead Colour Sergeant Tyrian. Junior Dog (18,3) 1 Guvercin’s Glebeheath Johnny The One, well turned out dog who looked balanced standing & on the move, good teeth, strong jaw, pleasing head & expression, super neat feet, nice bone & legs, easily spanned, good tail & tailset, OK in coat; 2 Horner’s Stineval Picotta, very hard fit dog, well presented. A little harder to span than 1. Small neat feet, good bone & straight forelegs, thick skin but a little short of topcoat, moved well; 3 Irving’s Dandyhow Royal Oak. Yearling Dog (8,4) 1 Bean’s Brumberhill Battlecry, stood away in this class, well turned out in superb coat & pelt, super otterlike head, big teeth & strong underjaw, good neckline into well laid shoulders, nicely angulated hindquarters with well let down hocks used well on the move, easily spanned rib, looked a real stallion dog, just my sort. CC & BOB; 2 Spencer’s Caznray Double Trouble, handy sized young dog, turned out well in excellent coat & pelt, easily spanned rib, moved OK; 3 Cheeseman’s Bromscar Powderfinger. Novice Dog (8) 1 R Boulder; 2 Dean’s Cedarhill Authorized, nicely balanced youngster in good coat, presented well by handler; 3 Thomas’ Byrons Greengrass. Graduate Dog (10,1) 1 Wallace’s Hobholt Harrier, lovely dog to go over but didn’t seem to be enjoying his day out. Liked his narrow body, good shoulders & spannable rib, super legs & feet, in good order, moved well; 2 Morgan’s Badgerbeck Festive Spirit at Blewecourt, bigger dog all round than 1, lovely profile standing but tended to carry his tail a bit too proudly on the move, not just as sound in the rear as 1. Liked his good head, teeth & jaw, well presented, handler made the best of him; 3 Spencer’s Caznray Double Trouble. Post Graduate Dog (13,2) 1 Gosling’s Akenside Xerox, really lovely balanced dog with lots to like, loved his superb feet, firm pasterns & straight forelegs, moved well, particularly good front movement, nice head, ears & expression, good underjaw, good neck into narrow shoulders, well turned out in excellent coat & pelt; 2 Marr’s Ruelata Acrobat at Redfox, handy sized dog with good bone & feet, easy to span, good neckline but not as good in topline as 1. Well presented & showed very well; 3 Johnson’s Karison Kasper. Limit Dog (16,4) 1 Dean’s Stineval Acerola with Tyrian, stood away for me in this class, lots to like about him & was considered for top honours. Liked his head & expression, good mouth, excellent straight front, neat small feet, held his good topline on the move, beautifully presented in thick tweedy coat & pelt; 2 Hand’s Lutrabeck Likewise, really nice sized dog who is easy to span, lovely feet & bone, narrow across the shoulders. Not a great deal of coat. Moved well & handler did his best with him but didn’ seem to be enjoying himself; 3 Barnett’s Brockfox Buckshot. Open Dog (14,2) Good class of quality dogs, didn’t have enough prize cards here. 2 Lee’s Ch Tythrop Tapas, very well presented dog who shows his head off, lovely neckline into narrow shoulders, excellent topline with a good tail & tailset, super legs feet & firm pasterns. Moved a tad wide in the rear & not the reach & drive of 1; 3 Sharp’s Rhozzum Dankworth. Minor Puppy Bitch (12,2) 1 Freivokh’s Dugaden Dilemma at Artwork, caught my eye as she entered the ring, lovely feminine puppy bitch with nice bodylines, narrow throughout, pleasing head & dark eye, nice topline & tailset, super feet & legs; 2 Barnes’ Conundrum’s Charismatic, very typy puppy, smaller more compact than 1, lovely head & expression, moved well, presented well. Not as neat in the front as 1; 3 Tutin’s Riseburn Roulette. Puppy Bitch (11,2) 1 Hunt’s Ottaswell Obsession, elegant puppy bitch, super rib, excels in profile with good topline & tailset, well angulated, stood well on good feet & legs, nice mover; 2 Norris’ Cast A Spell, not the topline of 1 but similar type, lots to like about her, moved well, in super coat & pelt; 3 Matthews’ Tojamatt Heather. Junior Bitch (17,3) 1 Pickering’s Picer Bright Idea, really liked this young bitch & forgave her lack of top coat. Lovely type with super head & expression, good teeth & underjaw, super neckline into shoulders, good topline & tail, liked her in profile movement, really moved around the ring with reach & drive; 3 Pilling’s Givenhill Eboracum. Yearling Bitch (9,1) 1 Jenkins’ Badgerbeck Purdi, entered the ring as though she owned it, handy size with super outline which she retains in profile movement, pleasing head, keen expression, good legs & feet, super tail, well presented in excellent coat & pelt, considered for top honours; 2 Hunt’s Ottaswell Carmen, really liked this one too, nice bodied bitch, narrow throughout, good rib & easily spanned, good neck & shoulders into good topline, small neat feet, good legs, moved well, in super coat & condition; 3 Pickering’s Picer Polyanthus. Novice Bitch (9) 1 Roslin Williams’ Mansergh Ditty, handy sized young bitch, loved her head & expression, really good shoulders & neckline. Tail looked a bit low set standing, but OK in profile movement. Good legs & feet, good coat; 2 Green’s Radnorvalley Fairy Tale, OK in topline but looked a bit too deep in chest in profile, although spannable. Very well presented, nice feet; 3 Giles & Birtles’ Smartstone Festive. Graduate Bitch (10,2) 1 Reeves’ Baywillow Tarte Tatin, lovely bitch with super outline both standing & in profile movement, nice rib easily spanned, beautifully presented, excellent coat & pelt, moved well on small neat feet, liked her head & keen expression; 2 Price’s Oxcroft Ruby, liked her for size, narrow across the shoulders, very typical of this kennel with an otterlike head, good teeth with short strong muzzle & underjaw, nice tail with good set on, the neatest of feet, moved OK; 3 Warnesford’s Wyken Pippin. Post Graduate Bitch (12,4) 1 Wanless’ Thorneyburn Minnie The Minx, loved the head & expression on this bitch, ears looked a tad heavy but not so much as to spoil the picture, very typy, all Border, lovely bl/t coat, handy size easily spanned, showed well; 2 Harrison’s Iacheslei Montanus, bigger throughout than 1 & harder to span, but well presented in good coat, nice head, super legs & feet, moved well; Limit Bitch (21,4) Super class of quality bitches. 2 Guvercin’s Glebeheath Figurine, nice headed bitch, really liked her too, neat pasterns & small feet, lovely tail, pleasing profile, good in rib, moved well; 3 Dickinson’s Stoneygin Ripon Ruby by Badgerholme. OB (10,4) Another really good class of bitches. 3 Newsome’s Kighill Millymoo. JAYNE GILLAM
