Nicki Platt

“Most aggressive episodes are triggered by the fear of being caught in a particular situation. Contrary to popular belief, it’s very rare indeed that an aggressive dog is a dominant dog. Dogs aren’t born aggressive, they become aggressive for a myriad of reasons. They have a large variety of body language that they use to convey a “stay away” message. People frequently misinterpret this body language and approach the dog inappropriately and are bitten. The sad thing is that most episodes of aggression aren’t investigated and treated properly. Consequently, the reason for the aggression is usually buried with the dog.”

Hello! I am Nicki your local therapist for Merseyside and owner of Beau, Harvey & Tilly (2 Labradors and a Springer spaniel)

Harvey came to me at 6 yrs old as his owner could no longer look after him. He took to following me everywhere and barked at everything and everyone. Beau stole things - shoes, remotes, mobile phones, you name it he stole it! As for Tilly, toilet training proved to be really tricky with the other two around. Worst of all Beau started showing aggression towards Harvey and I became worried that it might change his gentle nature.
I soon realized that I was out of my depth with 3 dogs, all of whom were much cleverer than me and had me brilliantly trained. Sadly they were not so well trained!
I searched for a non-physical, kind and effective method of training which would take place in the home, since both Beau and Harvey were good at training classes but definitely not good at home! This is the reason why I joined Bark Busters and it has been such an eye opener to actually see life through a dog’s eyes and start communicating with them in a way that they understand. These days I understand them and they understand and obey me!
My training has given me the knowledge to work with dogs exhibiting all sorts of behavioural problems, so however bad you think your dog’s habits may be please do give me a ring. I can stop nuisance barking, any form of aggression, jumping up and sort out general disobedience, so don't despair I can help!

You may be wondering what the two statements below are about? The one on the left disobeyed Kennel Club Rules.
The one on the right was a drunk driver,

Fine £1,500 Banned for three years.

Fine £485, Banned for two years

IS IT TIME FOR AN ALTERNATIVE KENNEL CLUB?

After you have read the circumstances of these two cases above, ask yourself the questions listed below.
(Click Links Above)

1: Why did the kennel Club need to employ a Barrister?
2: Was the £1,500.00 fine to cover the costs of the Barrister and the 'Expenses' of the 'Court'?
3: Are the two miscreants members of the Kennel Club? If not, what right does the KC have to impose a fine?
4: Was the Chairman of the Kennel Club fined for his callow outburst in the program Pedigree Dogs Exposed? (The program was two years in the making with the full knowledge of the KC) And, that arrogant remark by the Chairman cost the KC Thousands Of Pounds.

TERRIER GROUP SKC 10

It was a great honour to be invited to judge the terrier group & BIS at the SKC ‘representative’ show & I wish to thank the officers & committee for the kind invitation.

The weather at the show was excellent & the occasion seemed to be a very happy & relaxed one all round.

Despite some rather small entries in some of the Terrier breeds the quality of many of the representatives that came into the group, was pretty high & there were a number of dogs that didn’t make the final shortlist that, in different circumstances, might well have succeeded in so doing.

I brought the list down to eight – the Border, Dandie Dinmont, WFT, Irish, Kerry Blue, Scottie, Welsh & Westie. After moving them around the ring again & back & forth I selected three bitches & one dog for the final four.

G1 was the WFT, Ch/Ir Ch Blackdale Carousel, & what a pleasing little character she is, put down very well she is not overdone for leg hair, she has a very good head & skull with great refinement, a great neck, shoulder, & topline & is so well proportioned, she is so obviously a bitch & moved well & presented a very good terrier picture of quality & type.

G2 was the Kerry Blue, Ch Perrisblu Kennislain’s Chelsey, very smart bitch with a good head, correct neck & topline, good muscle, correct tail, she moved soundly & had a relaxed & easy showmanship appropriate for a bitch, excellent for coat colour & all round outline & pressed the winner hard.

G3 was the Welsh, Saredon It Had To Be You, a bitch of the correct size & shown in just enough coat, she impressed for soundness & moved well holding her topline well in the process, good neck & shoulder, OK in tail but not an easy one to handle on the move at times.

G4 was the WHW, Ch Alborado Centurion, very good in head & expression, correct in coat, good in bone with correct feet, had the right proportions & good topline, he showed all of the time.

Best in show

I have to say that I eventually narrowed the three main contenders down in my mind, to the WFT, the Petit Basset & the Boxer.

BIS went to the WFT, Ch/Ir Ch Blackdale Carousel, & I have commented on her in detail in my terrier group report. I gathered after the event that on the day she had taken the breed record as far as number of CCs are concerned & that the intention is now to retire her. She is a great ambassador for the breed in particular & for terriers as a whole & I congratulate her breeder owner & handler on her presentation & showmanship.

Terrier Group

I was honoured to be invited to judge the Group in place of Mr. Pinto Texeria from Portugal who was unable to attend the Show. My thanks go to the committee for their hospitality and a most enjoyable day.

All 15 terriers were present and I was pleased with the standard and quality of the exhibits sent forward by the breed judges. I short listed 6 from the group for further consideration the Bedlington, Border, Norwich, Irish, Staffordshire Bull and the Wire Fox for one final move and the winner of the group was the Wire Fox, Travella Star Lord, a quality soundly made dog of good type, lovely head with dark eye, keen expression, good shoulders and forequarters, good body, short back, strong muscular hindquarter which moved with good driving action

G2 went to Drumbilla Misty Lady a smart well balanced Irish, soundly constructed with good quarters fore and aft. Good head and type, keen expression, good neck flowing into well placed shoulders and level top line, lovely body, well set tail. A sound mover.

G3 was Ch Gnejnabay Genegenie Gal At Lowbrook JW ShCM, a well balanced Bedlington, good outline, good head and ears, correct front, good ribs and body, good muscular hindquarters. Moved very well

G4. Went to the Border Ch Rossula Magic Borderer At Clipstone, a nicely made dog pleasing in outline and overall balance. Good head, dark eye, keen expression, good spanable ribs carried well back, strong loin, good pelt. Moved soundly from good quarters. Good showman.

Double Standards, Hypocrisy And Revenue
More4 and ITV; Who Paid The Piper?

What a difference two television programs can make to the views of the Kennel Club.
After the screening over the Easter Bank Holiday of the TV programme ‘The Door’; Caroline Kisko was wheeled out to express ‘regret and deep concern’ about the way the dogs were treated.
[ K.C. Chairman A.K.A.Peter Brady Couldn’t Be Seen, Again. (Sic)]
In the two-part show, celebrities competed against each other by undertaking bushtucker trial-type challenges. Hosting the show were Chris Tarrant and Amanda Holden.
The first episode featured German Shepherd Dogs in cages. In a letter to ITV director of entertainment and comedy Elaine Bedell, KC secretary Caroline Kisko expressed ‘regret and deep concern’ about the way the dogs were treated. [Read It Here]
Is this just a ‘Cynical’ ploy be the Kennel Club to somehow appease the German Shepherd fraternity; following the disgraceful ejection of the Pensioner at Crufts and the exposing of the obvious ‘Vendetta’ against the German Shepherd Clubs? Because, lets be honest about this, Crufts Dog Show was full of dogs in Crates, Boxes and Cages, all of which would be much too small to house the same animals if they were travelling on an Airplane. Moreover, this is the case at every show, licensed by the Kennel Club every week.
Yet, in the other program screened by More4 when Clare ‘Butch’ Balding clearly had an unqualified view that the German Shepherd Best Of Breed at Crufts was unsound. Caroline Kisko - who surely must have modelled for the Dr Crippen Wax in Madame Tussauds - sat with the More4 presenters and said absolutely nothing. Well, what should we have expected? More4 put up the Brass and brought in the Cameras. After all, it’s only Money.

National Terrier Best in Show

What an honour to be invited to judge Best in Show at THE Terrier Show, an appointment I had been looking forward to so much. My thanks to the officials and committee for making the day so special.

I felt it was a first class line up of all Best of Breed winners . The quality being so high that some of my favourites did not feature in my short list. My short list did include the Australian, Cairn, Smooth Fox Terrier, Irish, Kerry Blue, Lakeland, Norwich and the Scottish Terrier. I thought every one was a fine example of their breed but only one could win Best in Show.
This proved to be the Kerry Blue Ch Perriblu Kennislain’s Chelsey. I have judged her before when I gave her the Puppy Group at Birmingham and so it was interesting to see how she has developed. She is all quality with a lovely clean balanced head dark eye, well set and used ears . Her shoulders are well placed with a straight front good topline and tailset. Her movement is true and she flows effortlessly around the ring. In super coat and condition and a credit to her owner and handlers.
Group 2 was the Smooth Fox Terrier, Horspool’s Rotur Celtic Desire of Adaires, another youngster with quality. She has such a good head and dark eye giving a wonderful expression. Using her ears all the time, lovely reach of neck onto well angulated shoulders, straight front onto the most lovely of feet, ample rib for her age with time to mature in body lovely tail carriage and presented a well balanced picture on the move. Again well handled to advantage.
Group 3 was the Irish Terrier Barker and Averis Drumilla Misty Lady. A bitch who is well constructed in top condition her coat was gleaming. I thought her head was very typical giving her a keen expression , good neck and shoulders level topline and correct tailset. She too impressed me on the move at a steady pace.
Group 4 was the young Cairn, Wren’s Larchlea Spirit in the Sky. Such a good example of the breed with a lovely head and eye well set and used ears, enough neck into well placed shoulders showing lovely extension on the move

Best Puppy in Show

A full compliment of breeds, many of them will be heard of again and again. On the day the winner was the Airedale Terrier, Hampton and Halls Muliebrity Grandioso. Almost twelve months old and well grown. Beautifully constructed throughout long powerful head, great expression could lift his ears more but they are well set. His shoulders have good angulation which enabled him to move so fluidly. He was in first class coat and condition.
Puppy Group 2, attending his first show I believe was the Border terrier. MacPhersons Brumberhill Benchmarked, well named as he sets a high standard, wonderful construction in super condition and should have a bright future.
Puppy Group 3 was the Kerry Blue, Munro and Averis Saredon Showtime to Arkama, just right for her age, lovely balanced head carried by sufficient neck into well placed shoulders good topline and tailset . On the move she covered plenty of ground easily, well handled, lovely textured coat.
Puppy Group 4 was the Welsh Terrier Vickers and Punters Saredon Dark Calling over Eskwyre, another youngster with a good future, typical and well constructed, again with freedom of movement.

Breeders Group

First were the Wheatens, a sign of a good breeder is to produce stock that is easily recognised and are of the same type. These wheatens are like peas in a pod.
Second place went to the Norfolks again so alike and all had effortless movement. Third place were the Bedlingtons so similar in shape and colour, with fourth place going to the Skye who were alike but not moving in unison as those above.

Once again my thanks to the President, Chairman, Secretary and all the show team for making me so welcome. I look forward to next year.

Stuart Plane

All Fools Day?

The Kennel Club is to hold its latest installment of 'Question Time'
at the Best Western Lord Haldon Country House Hotel in Dunchideock near Exeter. This is supposedly to enable dog enthusiasts to ask any questions, share thoughts and ideas and encourage dialogue with the Kennel Club.
But, hang on a minute, why have 'all' questions got to be submitted to James Skinner of the Kennel Club for vetting first? The excuse for this, the KC says is; "To ensure that questions can be answered on the night." Or do they mean that any awkward questioners will not be called [Remember The Pedigree Dogs Exposed Fiasco] and all of the rest of them will be answered in a safe and sanitised fashion.
The date for this is April 28th, shouldn't it have been April 1st All Fools Day?
Why travel to Devon to ask questions that have to be vetted first. What is the point? Why doesn't the KC publish the answers to its 'Vetted Questions' on its Web Site? It would save us all time and money.

Another Public Relations Disaster
Has The Kennel Club Learnt Nothing About PR Following Pedigree Dogs Exposed?

Kennel Club Chairman Ronnie IrvingAs the Kennel Club Boasted; " Another magnificent milestone marked at Crufts, was the announcement of the 5,000th member of the Kennel Club’s Accredited Breeder Scheme" One of it's Accredited Members was being ejected from Crufts.
A pensioner taking part in the Good Citizen Dog Training Scheme display teams was humiliated and told to leave Crufts after the Kennel Club claimed her five-month-old German Shepherd puppy was unsound.
Pam Edgington 76 years old (Starkstrom), who has been in the breed for 50 years and is an accredited breeder, was dismissed after one of the show’s vets declared her puppy showed ‘an abnormality in her hindquarters’.
If this was an exercise in Public Relations it is like saying that the Charge Of The Light Brigade in 1854 was Brilliant Military Strategy. Read More
