CAIRN DRIFFIELD 08 Judge: Mr J T P Roberts CAIRN JUDGE DRIFFIELD 08 Cairn Terriers A very good entry of 63 dogs. Heads were generally in proportion to bodies & of the correct length (occiput to nose), & width (side to side across occiput). Eyes were predominantly dark but there were a few light eyes which spoils the overall impression. It was pleasing to see many with big teeth & the correct scissor bite, but there were a number with small cramped teeth, particularly in the lower jaw, & this ought to be taken into account, if & when, breeding from them. Heads & neck length were generally well in proportion. Shoulders were generally good as were front legs. However many were only covered with fine, as opposed to coarse, hair. Toplines were good with tails well set on. Hindquarter angulation was good. Feet were a cause for some concern, being thin & ‘ferrety’ in many cases. I really found it very difficult to make constructive comments about movement as most exhibits appeared to be pinning in at the front. I am sure this was an optical illusion as shoulders & front legs were generally good. I think it was mainly caused by longish wet grass. It was only in the latter bitch classes where movement seemed better when the grass had dried. MPD (2,1a) 1 Peers’ Tweedisle Stargazer, a wheaten who found everything just a little too much. New coat just coming in, a nice head, dark eye & alert expression, good front & sound quarters. Would have liked a little more leg, but he has time to grow on. PD (4) 1 Felters & Rumens’ Landbuck Colour Code, cream with a good head & length of neck, well made shoulders, level topline & good sound hindquarters which gave plenty of drive. A very nice puppy whose progress I shall watch with interest as he should do well in the breed; 2 Percy’s Landbuck Colour Scheme, litter brother to 1, a very alert red who may do better on another day, beautifully presented & clearly well trained, a size bigger than his brother but shorter in back, excellent head, length of neck & level topline, good tailset, good mover; 3 Marshall’s Strathgarten Crackerjack. JD (3,1) 1 Templeton’s Time To Entertain, a silver/br who immediately caught my eye, well proportioned & correct size, excellent head with good stop, well bodied & good tailset. I liked this dog very much & am sure he will go on to gain his title. RCC; 2 Inett & Harrison’s Noncom Inett Tu Winnit with Carrdine, light red with dark points, a size bigger than 1 but nicely proportioned, pleasing head, coat has seen better days. YD (1) 1 Purvis’ Licensed To Thrill, wheaten with dark points, alert, well up to size. Would have preferred finer shoulders, grumbled a little. PGD (3) 1 Waugh’s Tribanon Warlord, upstanding silver/br, very good head with pronounced stop. Would have liked a little more length in back, but well proportioned otherwise. Good turn of stifle, moved well; 2 Dolan & Inett’s Glenrood Ice Man, light red very soundly built, slightly bigger than 1. Lost out by head comparison with 1. Well bodied & very alert; 3 Smith’s Rocasovale Razzle Dazzle. LD (2,1) 1 Short’s Glenchess All In The Stars, well presented silver/br, sound general appearance with nice head & expression, well placed ears, good length of neck & shoulders, pleasing topline held on the move, very alert. OD (9,5) 1 Percy’s Winetta Jimmy Mac, well presented silver/br with hardly a hair out of place, excellent general appearance, good strong head, one of the best on the day, well placed ears, front & shoulders very good which contributed to his excellent movement. A showman who didn’t waiver when it mattered. CC; 2 Grainger’s Devil In Disguise, a red similar to 1 with a good head & neck, level topline & excellent tailset, moved well; 3 Firth, Jones & Firth’s Cairngold Jackpot. MPB (3) 1 Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Button It, light red in good coat, excelled in head, good tailset & angulation, moved quite well considering the difficult ground; 2 Confue’s Anjofra Welcome To La La Land, another light red with dark points, more lightly built than 1, very alert & moved well; 3 Peers’ Empress Thistle of Tweedisle. PB (6,1) 1 Felters & Rumens’ Landbuck Jazz Hands, a lovely cream with dark points in good coat, beautifully proportioned, the best of heads, nice length of neck, good topline & tailset, good angulation at rear helping movement with drive. Another puppy whose progress I shall follow with interest. BP; 2 Burgin’s Noncom Miss Hat He Chewed, a nicely proportioned light grey, similar to 1 in every respect. However, I preferred the general appearance of 1; 3 Bradshaw’s Newfield Dawn Spirit. JB (1) A. YB (3,2) 1 Munday’s Birselaw Firebird of Stradivarious, wheaten with dark points, lovely head with dark eye, level topline & tailset, well angulated at rear, moved well. PGB (9,3) 1 Weinberger’s Correnie Crazy For You, a beautifully proportioned silver/gr who immediately caught my eye, on examination my first impression was confirmed, she has a superb head & good reach of neck, head was well in proportion to the body, good front, level topline & good tailset, showed & moved well. CC & BOB; 2 Robinson’s Bannock Belle, dark brindle, head, though good, did not quite come up to that of 1. Good length of neck & level topline, tail well set on, good mover; 3 Moseley’s Carradine Saphire at Spawyche. LB (11,4) 1 Inett, Harrison & Clayton’s Carradine Magic Star, well bodied silver/gr with good head & neck, pleasing topline & tailset, moved well. RCC; 2 Firth, Jones & Firth’s Cairngold Avin A Paddy, a very nice bitch with good head & length of neck, good topline & tailset, good bend of stifle, moved well; 3 Robinson’s Cruzo Cinderella. OB 4 (1) 1 Williams’ Curtisey Joint Venture, a well bodied red with good head, topline & tailset, moved with drive; 2 Curtisey’s Foreign Affair at Carradine, dark brindle well prepared for her class, showed off to perfection, has a good head & neck, level topline & good tailset, well angulated hindlegs which gave her plenty of drive across the ground; 3 Waugh’s Rivercottage Sandy’s Legend.
