Manchester Terrier MANCHESTER JUDGE PAIGNTON 08 Manchester Terriers The poor lighting, together with the black floor of the building in which the judging was held, was far from ideal for Manchester Terriers. Movement on the whole was not good & this was accompanied by poor toplines. Tail carriages have improved enormously since my last judging appointment but feet give me some concern; our Standard calls for semi-hare footed & I believe we are getting too many catlike feet. All exhibits were presented in excellent condition, a credit to their owners. PD (3) 1 BP & RCC, Morris’ Calastoa Amber Nector, super dog, strong head & good ears which he used giving him an alert expression, nice reach of neck, good bone, very sound, well marked with nice turn of stifle, handled well, moved with plenty of drive, lots of potential to make it to the top; 2 Dale’s Megallan Rumble in Rattustrap, not as mature as 1, seemed a little overawed but a very pleasing puppy who was handled in a very confident manner by his young handler, nice head, used his ears well which gave a good expression, moved nicely for a youngster, good tail carriage & markings; 3 Cochrane’s Mansarnian I’m The One. JD (1) A. PGD (3) 1 Pyne’s Newtonian Black Rod, a lot to like about this dog, very handsome, nicely balanced dog of the correct size, good bone, very sound with good topline & markings, handled well. Deserved his place in the line-up for the challenge & I’m hopeful that this dog will make it to the top; 2 Boggis’ Eaglespur Prime Time at Laurenbill, nice dog but seemed a little unsettled possibly due to handler nearly missing his class. Good head & eye, nice bone & feet, good hindquarters, movement good albeit slightly erratic; 3 Thurlow’s Westwytch Tourmaline Taboo. LD (1) 1 CC, Braybrook’s Gloryline Sir Thomas More, nice compact dog who is elegant but retains substance which is sometimes lacking in a correctly sized dog, good head, nice eye & well placed ears, good shoulder, topline & tail carriage. Dog was constantly looking up at handler in this class which caused poor movement with no drive, however this was corrected by handler in the challenge when all movement was again assessed. Worthy CC winner. OD (6) 1 Robinson’s Churnet Chadwick, nicely balanced, well marked strong dog who is up to size, good head, nice dark eye, well set ears used to advantage, good topline & tailset, handled well. Would like a little more depth of chest but certainly deserved to take this class; 2 Green’s Ch Newtonian Slim Shady, a dog I much admire, scored on head, dark eye & well set ears, well marked with a nice turn of stifle. Very hard decision but preferred movement of 1; 3 Norris’ Ch Brookstream Marcus Banks. PB (7,2) 1 Norris’ Brookstream Brooklyn, very promising feminine puppy who looked very mature, overall a pleasing shape with excellent front, moved nicely, good topline, lovely hindquarters, good wedge shaped head, handled & presented in tip top condition, certainly seemed to be enjoying her day; 2 De Lavis Trafford’s Tyburn Lotis, very nice puppy with lots of promise but different type to 1, nice bone, good topline & tailset, moved well. Not as mature as 1 but a very promising puppy; 3 Cochrane’s Lady Better Luck This Time. JB (3) 1 Over’s Faolan Andromeda, in this class this bitch stood out, liked her overall shape, along with her good head, eye & ear carriage used to advantage, on the move she kept her good topline & had lots of drive; 2 Knight’s Talanors Tomorrows Deams, nice bitch, good head but preferred ear carriage of 1. Well bodied & well marked, good tuck-up & topline, nice tailset, moved with confidence; 3 Palmer’s Egloshayle Lady Mauser. PGB (1) 1 Baldwin’s Browdel Belladonna for Nightstorm, lovely size, good head, eye & ear carriage, good markings. A little wide in front which shows on the move. Tail carriage very good, a lot to like about this bitch. LB (3) 1 RCC, Morris’ Brookstream Flower Fairy at Calastoa, super bitch, lovely head, eye & ear carriage, moved well with lots of drive, overall type & conformation first class. A pity she was carrying a little too much weight. Was certainly a contender for the CC & I was splitting hairs when it came to the challenge, not surprised to learn later that she was the dam of my BP; 2 Broxup’s Gloryline Elizabeth Of York at Brockenella, nice bitch, compact & balanced though up to size, nice deep chest, good body outline. Didn’t seem to be on top form; 3 Gloryline Catherine Aragon. OB (8,1) 1 CC & BOB, Oxley’s Ch Digelsa Double Entendre, lots to like about this one, took my eye as soon as she entered the ring & I wasn’t disappointed, lovely sound, feminine bitch of the correct size, good head, eye & ear carriage, looked super in outline & with good topline kept on the move, alert & attentive the whole time, nice to see a dog enjoying its day; 2 Knight’s Talanors Trick N Treat, very nice bitch of good size, good head with nicely set ears although they were a bit erratic. Deep chest, correct neck & topline, good tuck up, moved well; 3 De Lavis-Trafford’s Ch Tyburn Faedra. PAULINE GORE |
