SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE LEEDS 08 Soft-coated Wheaten Terriers A very hot sunny day, I hope you will forgive me for judging outside, there was a bit of a breeze which I thought would be cooler for the dogs. Handlers worked hard & the dogs moved well despite the heat. I was pleased with heads & mouths which were quite uniform. PD (1) 1 Bott’s Whitevale Prince of Thieves, excellent bite & eye colour, strong head, enough neck, good shoulders, topline & tailset. A little immature in body & coat at present. Good on the move with long low reaching strides & straight coming & going. Just needs to tighten up. JD (2,1a) 1 Dunhill’s Fantasa Blonde Kaos, square & presents pleasing outline, well boned, lovely head, strength without coarseness, excellent length of neck running into well laid shoulders, good depth of chest & spring of rib, strong hindquarters & well angulated, soft coat, clear wheaten colour, sound mover covering the ground with ease. RBD. PGD (1) 1 Deemer’s Tayjen Barite, square dog, well bodied & short coupled, liked his terrier expression, very good eye pigment, coat harsh at present. Needs training to show off his best but moved better when settled. OD (1) 1 Johnson’s Ch Fantasa Blonde Fagin, 6 year old who sold himself to me today. Presented a square working Terrier outline, balanced with nothing overdone, dark hazel eye, black rims, scissor bite, good ear & expression, well muscled, moved soundly covering the ground in a workmanlike manner. Topped off with a fully mature coat with good colour, wave & sheen. BOB. PB (2) 1 Bott’s Whitevale Sunshine Straw, litter sister to PD winner & very much peas in a pod. Positive mover, good reach & drive, straight fore & aft, good coat colour & texture, wheaten expression. Hope she doesn’t grow any more. RBB & BP: 2 Johnson’s Garsayno Gold Echo, pretty bitch of good size, excellent bite & expression, nothing overdone, good coat colour, texture OK for age. Just needs time to body up. Moved with drive but not as positive & affected front reach. JB (3,1) My class of the day. Two very nice bitches who were very difficult to split. 1 Dowdy’s Denzilly Toot Sweet, typy square bitch, strong but feminine head, good ears & used them well, good eye colour & pigment, enough neck into well laid shoulders, good for bone, chest depth, spring of rib, short coupled, well bodied, balanced rear angulation & straight hind legs, fine gleaming coat, good colour & texture, moved sound & true without exaggeration. Just flagged in the challenge. BB; 2 Dunhill’s Fantasa Blonde Kimberley, beautiful bitch, very sweet expression, no mistaking her for a girl. Most comments for 1 apply. Just not as mature in coat or body as 1. Moved soundly but handler must remember to move her dog to & from the judge in a straight line. Was called in for the challenge but had left the ring area. PGB (4,1) 1 Francis’ Tinjoby Catcher Of Dreams for Sawheaten, square & balanced, liked her expression & used her ears, strong head running into nice length of neck & well laid shoulder, good bone, body & topline, good coat colour but texture a little harsh. Covered the ground without exaggeration but did not move true towards me in the challenge; 2 Griffiths’ Wintrypark Miss Goodnight with Manawyddan, typy, terrier outlook & body, well muscled, alert & full of energy, good bite & big teeth, good front & rear angulation without exaggeration, excels in coat for texture & sheen but a bit pale. Covered ground well in profile but was crabbing badly fore & aft; 3 Elliott’s Kiltegan Rose Quartz. OB (4,2) 1 Wright’s Ch Abbeymead Hootenanny, 8 year mature young lady who I have admired in the past. Typy bitch, soundly constructed & gives balanced picture, bite OK, good pigment, strong head, enough neck, good angles, good bone, beautiful mature wavy coat with excellent colour & texture. A little portly. Moved with reach & drive. Thought this would be my winner but did not move true coming towards me; 2 Bott’s Whitevale Golden Honey, nice bitch, real Wheaten expression, used ears well, good pigment & eye colour, balanced angulation, strong hindquarters, parallel hind legs. A little lethargic on the move perhaps the heat got to her. Quite hairy. Good colour but texture a bit crisp. BEV HANNA
