Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Dogs-Judge: Mr Gary Hinsley My first time awarding CCs to the breed. By choice, it’s been two years since I last judged & I made the comment back then that fitness & general health ie clean teeth etc, of the exhibits was sadly lacking. Unfortunately, I found this still to be the case in a lot of exhibits. Although my main winners all possessed what I would consider to be a cherished head there was a predominance of oversized, fleshy headed animals with heavy ears which is untypical of our breed & must not be mistaken for a strong head. Movement on the whole was fairly good & I was pleased when I moved the exhibits in the challenge to see they all moved fairly true. Temperaments were sound & the dentition in all my main place winners was good. MP (6,1a Entries) 1 Faulkner’s Glowud Mister Elegant, red, good size, deep rich red colour & nice dark pigmentation, good head, well off for substance, moved well, nice pup; 2 White’s Jakierans Black Bull Tyke, b/br, smaller type than 1, decent head, ears set slightly high, well off for bone, nice topline. A little loose on the move; 3 Morten’s Fairlenium Hell Raiser. P (7) 1 Stanway’s Waystaff Strikes Back, pied white dog, good head & clean lines, nice size for a puppy, no coarseness, decent rib & short coupled, good movement which won him the class. BPD; 2 Kiamil & Brown’s Alanya’s Lad, b/br, good headed dog, nice deep forechest with ample rib, held his topline when moving. Slightly longer cast than 1; 3 Byrne’s Trufflestaff Buru. J (9,1) 1 Gibbs’ Tillcarr Pyrotecnik, b/br, this was the outstanding exhibit of this class & indeed the day, powerful head, neat earset, strong all round without being overdone, hard as nails with real good animation & movement, won this class with ease & could not be denied in the challenge. CC & BOB; 2 Ewart’s Grangestaff Razzmatazz at Rowansblac, b/br, strong headed dog with many of the attributes of 1. Good rib, short in the back, good topline. Carried his tail slightly high but moved well. Nice dog; 3 Rogers’ Berrystock Devils Advocate. Y (7) 1 Russell’s Rustaff Clydes Pride, br/w, smart dog with good clean lines, good front with decent rib, well angulated rear, nice dog with nothing overdone, good mover, in excellent condition; 2 Hockey’s Kimstaff Regal Ramirez, b/br, another nice size dog, in really good condition, good strength in head. Lacked the front construction of 1, not as short in the back as 1; 3 Bimson’s Briganah Days Of Thunder. PG (6,2) 1 McGrath’s Jajca Phoenix From The Flame, red, of a slightly lighter type than I prefer but his construction & fitness gave him a distinct advantage over the other exhibits in his class, decent head, neat earset, short coupled, excellent muscletone on his rearquarters; 2 Rhodes & Foxall’s Teracota Hells Angel, b/br, heavier type than 1, good head & deep forechest, enough rib, well angulated rear. Would have challenged 1 more with the required fitness. Moved OK; 3 Pritchard’s Arnhem Stand And Deliver. ML (5,2) 1 Boddy’s Caballero Spangled Glory, b/br, cobby dog of good size & shape, keen expression, good front, well ribbed, good bone & well developed rearquarters, best mover of this class; 2 Evans’ Ryestaff Ike The Tyke, b/br of slightly lighter construction than 1 & slightly longer in the back. Moved well but not quite the overall construction of 1; 3 Fairhurst’s Fairlenium Eye Of The Storm. L (14,3) 1 Willis’ Mr M Crossguns Graduate at Cross-Swords, pied dog that who screams Stafford at you, lovely head, well set neat ears create a superb expression, well off for both bone & substance. Moved true the only disappointment was in him lacking spark & animation in the challenge costing him higher honours; 2 Russell’s Russtaff Manley Stanley, b/br, lighter type all-round than 1 but superbly constructed, clean outline & good condition gives this dog excellent movement, one not to be overlooked, nice dog; 3 Rollin’s Jagstaff St Elmos Fire. O (12,2) 1 Needham & Barlow’s Ch Stormpike Dark Lord, b/br, excellent all round dog, superb head, neat earset, excellent front & correct angulation all round. One of the top movers of the day, just preferred the animation & muscletone of the junior dog in the challenge. RCC; 2 Coats & Greenwood’s Bellerophon Bevin Boy, b/br, another really nice dog who moved well, powerful head, neat well set ears, deep forechest, ample bone & substance in a nice tight fitting jacket. Just preferred the cleaner lines of 1 in this class. Nice dog; 3 Burton’s Hallastaff Young Arthur.
