Royal Highland Showground, Ingliston, Edinburgh Judge Mrs S P Holroyd DCC WHITTINGFORD WARRIOR BOLD OF DEMORNER (MR HUGHES & MISS R PEARCE)
Since I judged the breed last time the quality has sadly deteriorated. Most of the dogs have lost the major characteristic of the Welsh Terrier, namely head & expression! Only my major winners had correct heads & expressions, the others could have been taken for b/t Lakelands. My other main fault was muscletone in hindquarters, like all dogs they are a breed who needs to be exercised regularly to build up correct muscles & this was shown up in movement. PD (1) 1 Hughes & Pearce’s Knowlelion Allow Me, up to size & needs to come together, foreface needs to lengthen. Good ear carriage, ample layback of shoulders, clean front, level topline, tail set on top, in good harsh jacket. Movement erratic but grass length did not help. BPD. JD (2) 1 Clark’s Cumbrhondd Adolphis, put down well. Built correctly but lacking in head length. Good tail set on top of well muscled hindquarters, moved parallel both ways; 2 Taylor & Barrie’s Dezrez Bohemian Boy, larger dog of similar type to 1. Presentation could have been better & hind movement was closer than 1. LD (2) 1 Snow’s Nogard Nothing To Declare, one of the few with good Welsh head! Nice layback of shoulders, level topline, tail set on top of correctly angled & well muscled hindquarters, movement true both ways. RCC; 2 Callon Winn’s Russtam Lord Of The Rings, smaller head & ears than 1, level topline. Tail carriage not as good but moved well & beautifully presented. OD (3) 1 Hughes & Pearce’s Whittingford Warrior Bold of Demorner, little larger than I prefer but good all through. True Welsh head, good shoulders, level topline, tail set on top of well angled & muscled hindquarters, very well presented, moved with drive both ways. CC & BOB; 2 Templeton’s Rickarton Vital Spark, nice dog, good clean head & laid back shoulders, clean front, well angled hindquarters, moved OK; 3 Helliwell’s Ch Wigmore Foxwhelp. PB (1) 1 Hughes’ Knowelion Almighty Martha, smaller version of litter brother but more mature & moved much better. BP. JB (2) 1 Witmond’s Tilster Teckno Babe, another nice one from this kennel, lovely feminine Welsh head, good shoulders, good harsh jacket, put down well, level topline, well muscled hindquarters, moved well both ways. RCC; 2 Clark’s Saredon Carbon Copy at Cumbrhondd, heavier in build than 1, head could have been longer & was longer in back. Movement OK. LB (3/1) 1 Robertson’s Nogard New Moon, good head & expression, well built, level topline, good tailset, moved well both ways. OB (3) 1 Averis & Scawthorn’s Ch Saredon Diamonds R Forever, saw her as a puppy & has matured well. Would like longer head but has all the other attributes of the breed & moved well both ways. CC; 2 Leadbeater, Averis & Kerrigan’s Saredon Always On My Mind, not as good in head as 1 but very similar in build, movement let her down; 3 Templeton’s Rickarton Party Doll.
