Judge: Mr A Favell AIREDALE JUDGE WINDSOR 08
My comments regarding Airedale Terriers may surprise some people. We are moving away from that which should be the norm for our breed & many do not fall within the Standard. Heads are too coarse & not brick shaped, skulls not flat but apple headed, depth through jaw too deep causing the head to look square & not long & punishing. In many cases too much loose skin on under jaw & neck. Eyes that are too bold & round with black rings. All these detract from true Airedale expression. Some bitches are far too big & resembling males, some would make good dogs with the right appendages. Movement on some leaves a lot to be desired, I found ten to two fronts, pin toes at the rear & some very close behind. You should stand back & take a good look at what you have got & what you are breeding & ask yourself does my charge fit the Standard & does it fit into a square box. Those with the aforementioned faults paid the penalty. PD (2,1a) 1 Gray’s Grayaire Just William, at just 7 months he performed well, correct head & eye, ear placement, used ears to advantage, coat of good texture, shoulder placement acceptable at this stage of growth. Tailset could be a little better, movement loose but will improve with age. JD (4,1) 1 Turner’s Crillee Cool As Jack, solid youngster, strong in head, correct bite, good ear placement, eye OK, moderate neck into well placed shoulders, good spring & depth of chest, level topline with good tailset. A little straight & moving close behind. Presentation good but overdone in some aspects; 2 Edwards’ Lytchdale Maestro, longer cast than 1. Strong in head, used ears well, correct bite. Eye a little bold. Neck OK, well placed shoulders, good spring & depth of chest, level topline, well set tail, coat of good texture. Moving close behind; 3 Cole’s Magwyr Rhapsody In Blue. PGD (3,2) 1 Fraser’s Awbeck Painted Moon, very happy chappie, good head, eye & lay of shoulder, deep chest & spring of rib, level topline, good tailset. Needs new jacket, would not use his ears & moved close behind. LD (2,1) 1 Felstead’s Minnisoda Dappa Dan, solid dog, strong in head, good eye & ear placement, correct bite, lengthy neck but heavy in shoulders thus making a wide front & out at the elbow. Good depth & spring of rib, slightly long in back, well angulated rear, tailset adequate, moving close behind. Coat in excellent condition. OD (3) 1 Glover’s Jodean Pied Piper, I make no bones about admiring this quality dog, correct head & eye giving good expression, correct scissor bite. To be ultra critical would like his ears a little higher but he used them well. Tapering neck into well placed shoulders, deep chest & spring of rib, level topline & short in loin thus giving a square picture, tailset high with good rear angulation, coat of good texture & well presented, moved with drive & purpose. CC; 2 McCallum’s Glentops Firefly, sound quality dog, good head, correct eye & ear placement, used ears well, tapering neck into well placed shoulders, deep chest & spring of rib, short in loin thus shortening back & making a square picture, tail set high with good bend of stifle, coat of good texture & well presented, moved well. To be critical would like a little less exuberance in front action. RCC & well deserved; 3 Jackson & Swash’ Jokyl Summer Storm. V (2) 1 Brown’s Willowaire Masquerade, upstanding dog, enjoys his grumblings, in excellent condition for his 8 years, won this class for his soundness & condition, enjoying his day out; 2 Keay’s Jaymitch Kristina of Palmer, 8 years bitch, also enjoying her day out, happy disposition, firm & solid but feminine. Not in the condition of 1. PB (3) 1 Oates’ Stabucks Ebony, still very much a baby & very raw, good head & ear placement, scissor bite, tapering neck into well angulated shoulders, back of moderate length with good tailset, coat just coming through. Movement erratic but should improve with age. BP over dog on lay of shoulder & tailset; 2 Watt & Warden’s Sherifs Ruby Tuesday, similar remarks apply but a better bend of stifle than 1. Moving very close behind; 3 Weatherley’s Juclay Eurielle. JB (7) 1 Baker’s Stargus Devil In Prada, not the head I would like, good eye & dentition, tapering neck into good shoulders, correct front, depth of chest & spring of rib fit nicely together, well presented with coat of good texture, well set tail & rear angulation, the best mover in this class; 2 Keay’s Magwyr Sweet Dreams by Jaymitch, nice type & fits the Standard well with the exception of head. Correct eye & dentition, tapering neck into well placed shoulders, good depth & spring of rib, short in loin with good tailset, in good condition, well presented. Not moving as well as 1; 3 Turner’s Crillee Cool China. PGB (8,2) 1 Acton’s Jantaradon Starchaser, very nice youngster in excellent condition. Needs firmer handling. Correct head, eye, mouth & ear placement, ears used to advantage, tapering neck into well placed shoulders, good depth & spring of rib, short back, tail well set, well angulated rear, coat of good texture, moved soundly; 2 Brown’s Jokyl Summer Special, sound bitch in excellent condition, fits into the Standard, similar remarks apply with exception of being a little straight in stifle & not moving as well as 1; 3 Edwards’ Crillee Caught Celebratin. LB (6) 1 Callon & Callon-Winn’s Sonorra Bashful Betty at Russtam, quality bitch, just needs a little more sparkle. Good head, eye, mouth, ears well set & used, tapering neck into good layback of shoulder, barrel rib, well set back with good depth, short back with tail on top, correct rear angulation, excellent condition, coat of good texture, correct front & upper arm, coupled with rear angulation allowed her to move free & straight with ease. RCC; 2 Cole’s Magwyr Be Dazzled, different type to 1 but sound & fits into the Standard, good head, eye, ear placement, scissor bite, tapering neck into layback of shoulder, good depth & spring of rib, level topline with tail on top, good rear angulation, coat of good texture, well presented. Just not moving with the fluency of 1; 3 Keays’ Jaymitch Skipping Sapphire. OB (9,1) 1 Morris’ Nedella The Diamond, quality bitch in excellent condition, correct head, not found very often here, scissor bite, large & white teeth, ears well set & used to advantage, keen expression, long tapering neck into good lay of shoulder, straight front with correct length upper arm, deep chest with good spring of rib fitting well back making loin nice & short, short in back with level topline, tailset right on top, good rear angulation allowing rear propulsion, coat of good texture, moved soundly with purpose, well up on size but still feminine. CC & BOB; 2 Crome’s Ch Tintara Dixie Dame, quality bitch & deserves her title, correct head in all departments & needs no further comments from me, she earned her place in a strong class with her overall quality soundness & condition; 3 Hampton & Hall’s Jaideld Gypsy Viviana of Mulbriety.
