Norwich Terriers

A good entry of quality dogs. I was very pleased with the overall standard, all being typical of the breed making my task quite pleasurable & some difficult decisions. Entry numbers may be small at the moment but the standard remains high.

PD (4) Very nice class, but two different types.

1 Southwell’s Berty Way, 6 months b/t, full of confidence & promise, good type, excellent head of good proportions & expression, small dark eyes, correct shaped skull, good stop, quality coat in good order, soundly constructed with well shaped hindquarters though could be bit better in shoulders. Straight front. A shade long on short legs at present but ideal size for age. Handler needs to walk at the right pace so he trots, which he can do very soundly;

2 Mason’s Glenhafod Red Dragon, 10 months wheaten of similar small size, very pleasing pup, rather immature as yet. Alert cheeky dark eyed expression. Head not as good as 1 but skull should broaden with maturity. Needs a bit more stop, short back, cobby body, excellent hindquarters, moves with drive, but could be better in front. Good texture coat beginning to blow.

3 Flannery & Bennett’s Ragus Ask No Questions.

JD (2)

1 McCallum’s Tynallt Trouble Shooter, good overall type b/t, excellent head of correct proportions, broad skull, lovely eyes, good stop, short back, cobby body, showed & moved happily but wide in front & rear. Rather high hocks, though quite well bent stifles, OK in shoulders. Front would look better with less hair on elbows. Won class on coat & head;

2 Stevenson’s Brickin Lets Twist Again, red, similar type though appears a bit taller, head proportions OK, strong skull, though muzzle could be shorter & stop deeper. Good in neck & shoulders but appeared to move wide. Good texture coat but not quite in such good order & lacking it on hindquarters which are similar to 1. Not quite so well balanced overall. Exuberant showman, quite short backed & mature body for age.

PGD (1)

1 Jones’ Rhythm And Blues at Zippor, b/t, very showy taller dog, lovely head of correct proportions & shape, typical expression, short back, deep body, good long ribcage, quite good shoulders, straight well boned front legs, excellent hindquarters moving with great drive & striding out well in front, excellent coat quality & presentation, most attractive.

LD (3,1)

1 Bell’s Dorinor Red Alert, red in perfect coat & condition, soundly made, striding out well with good drive, head typical, of correct shape & proportions, dark eyes, good bone & substance, strong deep body, very good showman which won him the class but would prefer him a shade smaller overall;

2 Stevenson’s Ragus Hey Good Lookin for Brickin, red of excellent type & size but most reluctant to show, good coat texture & condition on body but a bit profuse on legs, short back & deep cobby body, good head with broad skull but needs a bit more stop, typical dark eyed expression, very soundly constructed front & rear but difficult to assess movement as uncooperative.

OD (4)

Super class, first three very close. 1 Needham’s Ch Titanium Columbus, pleased me immensely, sound & typical fits the Standard very well, presented in perfect order, red coat of good texture, short back, deep well ribbed body, perfectly proportioned head & true Norwich expression, good big teeth & bite; soundly constructed, sturdy & well boned, excellent showmanship & movement. Very worthy CC & BOB.

2 Brown’s Ch Queslade Rebel Red, a close decision, red more lightly built & prettier type, super head of correct shape, lovely expression, close fitting harsh coat very well presented, moved soundly & showed non-stop, quite good in shoulders, straight front, short back, deep body, excellent hindquarters, very difficult to choose between 1 & 2, splitting hairs. 1 had the edge on overall balance & proportions. RCC;

3 Chambers’ Rouletta Havin A Good Thyme.

PB (4,1)

1 Needham’s Titanium Paint Your Wagon, 8 months charming little b/t, teased her owner by being a naughty show-off! Head very similar to 2 in PD, like him. Needs to strengthen in skull & stop. Super small dark eyes with varminty expression, short level back, well made body, moves fine when settles driving soundly from well angulated excellent hindquarters & strides out in front. Presented in lovely condition with good quality shining coat of correct texture;

2 Bell’s Dorinor Red Ember, 8 months quality red, shows very nicely on the go but when standing drops her tail, which is a shame. Pretty head & expression, good bone, well made front & rear, moves very soundly, good coat in nice order, short back, cobby body, very promising;

3 Kell’s Amicaro Ring A Roses.

JB (5,2) 1 Bell’s Dorinor Dizzy Devil, 11 months red, smart & very showy, on the go all the time, alert expression. Head needs to strengthen in muzzle but has good proportions, soundly constructed front & rear, short level back, cobby body, nice overall type. Easy winner of class as she sparkled & bubbled with enthusiasm to win BP;

2 Barrell’s Barwest Beech Nut, good type, showy b/t, coat just starting to go. Very similar to 3 but bit shorter; excellent head of good proportions, typical expression, quite good neck & shoulders though moves a little wide. Hindquarters well bent giving good drive;

3 Watkins’ Baktwins If I Can Dream.

PGB (4)

1 Willard’s Crivnor Troubles Brewing, nice size, mature sound red in excellent coat of good texture & presentation, very typical head, broad skull, good stop, strong correctly proportioned muzzle, dark eyes, quite good in neck, shoulder & front, good bone, short back, cobby body, well shaped hind legs, moved & showed off happily, overall presents a balanced outline of typical Norwich gaining her RCC over kennelmate who pushed hard. Close decision with CC winner who had the edge on construction;

2 Martin’s Batwins Follow That Dream, very smart & attractive, not as forward as 1, needs to drop in body & is a bit finer throughout, good quality coat, neat & tidy, very good head properties, dark eyes but a little round. Good front, short level back, tail always up, moves soundly with good propulsion from well made rear.

3 B If I Can Dream.

LB (5,1)

Four good bitches.

1 Willard’s Ragus Inspiration, very sound mover the best in class, good construction & angulation particularly hindquarters, short back, good ribs & bone, coat texture correct but not at its best. Correctly shaped head, skull & muzzle, proportions good but eyes could be darker. Good showgirl of equal merit to CC & RCC winners but not in such good bib & tucker;

2 Bell’s Dorinor Dizzy Lizzy, well presented b/t, very gassy showgirl, short & cobby, lovely head with broad slightly curved skull, good stop, correct muzzle length, small dark eyes. Neck & shoulders not as good as 1 being shorter & steeper, thus restricting front movement a little but drives very well from well angulated hind legs, with low hocks. Good bone & substance, deep good length ribcage, coat in good order. Just not so balanced or free moving as 1;

3 Whitworth’s Acquest Vanilla Vixen.

OB (2,1)

1 Roberts & Murray’s Ragus One Step Ahead of Mindlen, very smart b/t, excellent quality coat & presentation, neat & tidy. Could shed a little weight to advantage but this did not impede her movement which was sound & true. Well shaped head of correct proportions, small dark eyes, typical alert expression, although I preferred the dog’s in the final choice for BOB as it just shouts Norwich! Well boned front legs, & excellent hindquarters, well muscled & angulated. To be ultra critical I would prefer her a shade smaller & more feminine. Won CC in good competition on her sound construction, movement & overall balance & presentation.
