ENGLISH BULL JUDGE WINDSOR 08

Bull Terriers

Although the entry was on the low side at 55 dogs, absentees of 7 were gratifyingly low. I was delighted with the quality of my primary winners, particularly in the dogs with two straight out of the top drawer, however the depth of quality in bitches was below expectations, whereas in the past I’ve felt positively spoilt for choice – or is nostalgia simply not what it used to be? As far as heads are concerned I fear flashy profiles with narrow forefaces, lacking fill, may become valued over the more desirable gently sloping arc with broad filled muzzles & powerful underjaws.

PD (3,1a)

1 Hind & Membury’s Mitstaff Diamond White, all white, 7 months, typy & attractive youngster with an adequate head, correct bite, good expression & ear carriage, mature for age, good shoulder & topline marred slightly by carrying too much weight & front needs to tighten. Plenty of bone & substance, moving well behind;

2 Gausen & Lade’s Bilboen Love N Kisses, 10 months solid fawn with a tiny white stripe, upstanding, masculine dog with decent head, mouth correct except for one tight canine, well balanced with a good front, topline & quarters moving well in front. Difficult to assess behind as he was reluctant to move.

JD (3)

1 Samway’s Bullbrit Big Buffalo at Hardysview, upstanding white with lovely head in profile, wicked expression & perfect mouth, although I would prefer more width & fill, masculine with ample bone & substance, well put together with a lovely front, well placed shoulder, level topline & correct tail carriage, moved accordingly both ways. On the downside his excess weight unfortunately detracted from his many virtues;

2 Leesley’s Lydsyll’s The Untouchable, exuberant, white, terrier type who never stopped showing & making the very best of himself, super head having arc, width, fill & excellent expression, mouth OK but for one inset canine, well made with a good front, decent topline & strong quarters. A little choppy behind on the move.

ND (3)

1 Taylor’s Ragnarok Sigurd, typy r/w, well put together with good clean lines, good head in profile with a good expression, although would like a little more fill, has one inset canine & slightly pink nose. Very shapely with good front, correct shoulder & topline, moving well both ways, taking the class with some in hand;

2 Membury & Tait’s Mitstaff Fax Of Life, typy b/br/w with a decent profile & good expression. Serious mouth faults, would like better lay of shoulder. Moving adequately behind.

PGD (7,1)

The first demanding class having an outstanding dog with little wrong, except a seriously bad mouth, & deciding which end of the line to place him, I abhor fault judging & decided his otherwise outstanding virtues must prevail.

1 Hall’s Terjos Lord Of The Ring, an outstanding dog awash with virtues apart from a badly undershot mouth. Stunning head with arc, depth, width & fill – a picture completed by the tiniest of eyes giving him a punishing expression, super bone & substance with a good shoulder, topline & quarters, when it came to the crunch, my decider was which would I want to take home, for me, his positive virtues truly outweigh his obvious fault;

2 Williams’ Merlindan Xcaliber, br/w, attractive masculine dog just lacking in profile. Perfect mouth, well put together with ample bone & substance, in excellent condition & one of the best movers of the day hence the tough call.

LD (5,1

) 1 Woodward’s Emred Huntsman, beautiful, upstanding white, full of quality, type & very difficult to fault, lovely clean head with sweeping profile & decent, correct mouth & super expression, very well balanced throughout with well placed shoulders, good neck, level topline & correct tail carriage. To be ultra picky I would like a little more bend of stifle. Moved extremely well both ways & was unlucky to find himself up against another top class dog in the final challenge, took the class with some in hand & strong RCC;

2 Leesley’s Bullyview Entertainment, all white, flashy terrier type, showing non-stop from start to finish & making the very best of himself, strong masculine head with a truly punishing expression, correct mouth & ear carriage. Not the profile of the 1. Always buzzing, appears well made with good neck & shoulder & topline, when pulling into the lead his movement was very good, perhaps a little choppy otherwise.

OD (6,2)

1 Roberts & Grieves’ Teirwgwyn Son Of A Gun, a very straightforward class which this dog took with room to spare, eyecatching r/w extremely well balanced throughout with a lovely clean skull, super head in profile, filled right up & well turned, broad, deep & strong, mouth correct apart from one rather silly incisor which appears to lean backwards, correctly constructed nose to tail, he is masculine with plenty of bone & substance, perfectly good front, lovely reach of neck into correctly placed shoulder, level topline & strong quarters, moving beautifully both ways. My only criticisms would have to be nit-picking, a slightly high tail carriage & unattractive, a splash on his back. Other than that I can’t find anything to complain about, a truly lovely dog. CC & BOB, was extremely pleased to see that Sue McCourt, judging her first terrier group later that day, also appreciated his virtues, placing him G4;

2 Ley’s Virtuous Brute Force by Fortifer, smart b/br/w with decent bone & substance, attractive head having a good profile, width & fill, perfect mouth & good expression, in sparkling condition, well put together with a broad chest, good front & level topline, looked a picture standing although a rather disappointing on the move.

PB (5)

1 William’s Cwmdulais If I Only Knew for Gwynsel, pretty, 11 months white who took the class on her super all-round type, lovely head in profile, super expression & correct mouth. Currently lacking pigment on her nose. Mature, although coat still a little woolly & a little upright in shoulder. Good front & bend of stifle. Rather disappointing on the move lacking drive & what I recorded as rather ‘floppy’ behind. BP;

2 Tubb’s Elvroc Crazy Cracker at Gazannlou, br/w, pretty youngster who is nicely balanced with a good head. Looking a little long at the moment & slightly gay tail. Well made all through, however, & the best mover in the class.

JB (5)

1 Whincup’s Destiny Angel, very typy all-white with a phenomenal head – her profile borders on the exaggerated but lacks width – with a truly punishing expression & correct ear placement, although mouth a reverse scissor, good neck, adequate shoulder & correct topline, good bend of stifle & correct tail carriage, adequate mover both ways;

2 Seward’s Padhern Precious Pearl, very pretty r/w who pushed hard for top slot making a tough call between 1 & 2. Not the flashy head of 1 but mouth is perfect, compact all-through & in superb condition, lovely condition, rear action very pleasing.

NB (3)

1 Taylor & Foster’s Ragnarok Fricka over Bilboen, a clear-cut class with this pretty girl having the better head, nicely arced & filled with a good expression & correct mouth, well made with good topline. Front could be tighter & was disappointing on the move, taking the class on her superior type;

2 Bloom’s Abenaki Devils Delight, a pretty one with good head in profile & decent fill. Needed to be tighter in front & lacked the bone & substance of 1.

PGB (6,1)

1 Roderick’s Warnerdale Looney Toon, a strong class winner, quality white with lovely clean lines, very typy with good strong well arced head, level bite & keen expression, well made with good reach of neck, when on her toes her front was super, just drifting to 5-to-5-past when she relaxed on the odd occasion, something for her capable handler to note. Correct topline & strong quarters. Moving a little close behind. Took the class & CC on overall type, balance & good performance;

2 Harris’ Sherrywells Star Flake, very close decision between 2 & 3, this white girl was rather long but another with lots of type & a flashy profile, mouth correct although teeth a little dirty, not in the best of condition, coat rather thin & patchy. A pleasing typy bitch with good reach of neck. Very disappointing on the move, nonetheless managed to beat a well balanced contender in 3rd, in better condition & by far the best mover in the class.

LB (8,1)

1 Cserfalvi-Young’s Ducassos Contrary Mary, a tricky class with very, very little to separate the first three, this lovely white has a phenomenal head – slightly exaggerated as she had bashed her head on a cage, sweeping arc, correct ear carriage, plenty of width, depth & fill, correct bite & a punishing expression, decent front with correct shoulders. A little long in back. Good quarters & decent bend of stifle. Doesn’t move particularly well behind, showed well for the class but unfortunately rather threw in the towel in the final line-up;

2 Whittaker’s Yendorian Solitaire at Wengormick, this girl pushed very hard for top slot & was only let down by her rear action which really lacked drive, white with super head, having arc, width & fill, correct mouth & a wicked expression, super showgirl with super bone & substance, straight front, correct topline & in good condition;

3 Lambert’s Caliber Hoss Play.

OB (2)

1 Jackson’s Dazlin Delivery for Evaduse, 2 nice bitches in this class of similar type, this white girl is the more upstanding of the two & undoubtedly putting in the better performance, a quality typy bitch with a good head with arc & plenty of fill, correct mouth & very good expression, good front & level topline but overall picture slightly spoiled by carrying too much weight – but easily remedied going forward, moved adequately behind, which may also improve with the weight off. RCC;

2 O’Neil’s Ch Khlolander Kinda Magic, a quality white who, sadly, didn’t want to cooperate with her owner, making her appear a little bit wooden. Feminine head with gently curving arc but would like a little more turn & fill, not quite the small eye of 1. Made on good clean lines & the slightly better mover of the two.
