BORDER JUDGE SKC MAY 16

Border Terriers

MPD (1)

1 Downie’s Aldhaugh Storm Cracker, nice head & neck, lacking in coat but what was there is good. Sweet temperament. Good movement.

PD (8,2a)

1 Archibald’s Lairehope Highland Chief at Tweedburn, very well made youngster with a classic otter head, hard coat & thick pelt. Correct construction leading to good strong movement. Pushed very hard by 2. BPD;

2 Lothian’s Lairehope Duke Diamante, as already said very similar to 1, given their father I’m not surprised they are peas in a pod. Very much a splitting of the proverbial hair;

3 Hall & Ellis’ Brackenfell Ragamuffin.

JD (6)

1 Alexander’s Glenbucket Highland Lad, “old fashioned” Border T displaying a traditional full thick hard coat with correct undercoat. Strong broad otter head with a powerful muzzle but overall not overdone, moderate in everything as he should be. Sound movement;

2 Duxbury’s Ridgebow Tracker, super head, tight close coat, a good example of a different type of Border T to 1 but showing all the correct attributes;

3 Hamilton’s Stineval Basil of Cremlechs.

YD (6)

1 Fryer’s Irton Mountain Dew, very typical of this kennel, hard thick coat, correct undercoat, very nicely put together, great strong head, lovely temperament. Covered the ground well on the move;

2 Houseman’s Markington Apollo, very similar to 1 in coat, movement, make, but I felt weaker in the head, but a nice Border T;

3 Brewster & Green’s Stowthorney Mr Tickle.

ND (3)

1 M Apollo;

2 Broomhead’s Plushcourt The Boss Bee at Manorcroft, average type, OK head. Unfortunately did not move to its advantage;

3 Gregory’s Remony Midnight Rambler.

PGD (6,1)

1 Lothian’s Lairehope Topaz Design, very nice old fashioned type again, displaying everything as it should be. Good strong otter head, thick hard double coat with sound powerful movement. Another enjoyable to go over;

2 Castel’s Flutorum Artful Dodger, my second, whilst a different style of dog had a close, tight coat. Head not as strong as 1 but still good. Well put together & displayed similar good movement;

3 Pollit’s Tyneaster Undercover Agent for Vandamere.

LD (7,1)

1 Horner’s Stineval Napolean, another old fashioned style Border T. Once again showing a thick, hard full double coat. Thick pelt. Very well made. Great head with wonderful expression. Movement was definitely his advantage. Very easy to see this chap doing his true calling in the field. Delighted to award him the CC & BOB, & also very pleased to see him shortlisted in an exceptionally strong Group;

2 Lorraine & Thomas’ Raleniro Second Time Around, this is more like third time around because once again my second is of such similar style to 1 showing a close correct coat, movement & make, but displaying a good, different style of Border T;

3 Duxbury’s Ridgebow Rifleman.

OD (7,1)

1 Fryer’s Irton Morse Code, everybody knows this kennel is known for their “old fashioned” Border T which I enjoy immensely. Fabulous head, wonderful intelligent expression, beautifully made, thick hard double full coat with thick loose pelt, as it should be. Nice to see a Border T shown properly. Very happy to award him RCC– very close to the CC;

2 Palmer & Peacock’s Comitis California, nice bl/t, well coated. Once again beautifully put together, good pelt, good construction & movement. Little to choose between this boy & 1. An unenviable enjoyable decision;

3 Chandler’s Ralinero Brand New Age at Alderseadale.

VD (5,2)

1 Phillips’ Ch/Ir Ch Vandamere’s Secret Agent, this old boy is a dear friend. Classic of his kennel. Not showing his age. Good coat, lively movement;

2 Lorraine’s Stbedehounds Frank In Sense of Raleniro, weaker in head to 1 but in so many ways the same. Hard blue coat. Moved well. Just didn’t quite have the presence of 1;

3 Sugar’s Foxcraig Jester.

MPB (3,1)

1 Peacock’s Ragatam Step In Time, very nicely put together feminine blue. Strong but delicate in head. Good bite. Moving OK for a youngster;

2 Wanless’ Thorneyburn Rags To Riches, unfortunately not up to the standard of 1. Weaker in all departments.

PB (7)

1 James & Render’s Chorbeck Gossip Girl at Blackmine, very pretty bitch but strong where she needs to be. Well made, correctly proportioned which enable her to move with strength & grace. Good correct coat & a feminine otter head. BPB & BP;

2 Coleman’s Hartwelin She’s The One, another very close class. This young lady was so similar to 1, I found myself splitting hairs. Not quite as mature as the winner to the point she needed a little more development/finishing;

3 Spence’s Brackenfell Double Dutch.

JB (6,1)

1 Pickering’s Picer Flora McIvor, nicely put together, good movement, feminine head, good coat, overall a very nice type;

2 Dixon’s Otterpaws Firebird, nice feminine type of Border T with a good coat. Good movement & construction. Head not quite as good as 1;

3 C Gossip Girl at B.

YB (7)

1 Hamilton’s Bruadar Girl at Cromlechs, very nice typy bitch with a hard coat & good movement. Good feminine head, nice expression; 2 Fryer’s Irton Scotch Mist, this is a nice type again, close coat, just preferred the head of 1.

NB (5,3)

1 C Gossip Girl at B;

2 H She’s The One.

PGB (16,6)

1 Sansom’s Tarkaswell Doctor’s Orders, very well put together type with good strong movement, good otter head & a nice close correct coat;

2 Peacock’s Comitis Arya with Ragatam, not the front of 1 but overall a nice type, good head & coat;

3 Lorraine’s Seymours Bubble And Squeak for Raleniro.

LB (4,1)

1 Thomas’ Raleniro Lady Esquire, back to the old fashioned style again, lovely head, rich full tight coat with correct undercoat & pelt. Very nicely put together which led to good movement. Certainly in the mix for RCC;

2 Hayes’ Merumhor Suzy Snowflake of Lexmar, once again full thick rich correct double coat & pelt, good strong movement, solid head. Well put together but just a little weaker in head than 1;

3 Milton’s An Cnoc of Baillieswells.

OB (12,2)

A very close strong class. 1, 2 & 3 gave me that enjoyable but difficult decision of making the choice between three very good Border T. Another day another decision.

1 Golding’s Beaconpike In A Storm, a very strong solid yet feminine bitch. Great double coat, very well made which allowed her to move strongly. Possibly this was her winning attribute. Delighted to award her, her second CC. A great example of what the breed should be aspiring to. Once again I could see the first three in a working environment;

2 Gregory’s Remony Frosted Ivy, so, so similar to 1. Closer in coat but the coat was correct. Strong movement, great otter head, good front. As I have said already could see this bitch working. RCC;

3 Milton’s Bailleswells Stronachie.

VB (3)

1 Brewster & Green’s Breckgreen Blue Christmas, it certainly wouldn’t be a blue Christmas for me with this bitch! So similar to one of my own both in character & style. Not showing her age. Good type & shape. Good solid graceful movement. A character;

2 Fraser’s Achnagairn Wild Card, there is something about an “aged” Border T. In general they refuse to grow up. This was so much like. 1, a really nice Border T & on another day, another place, could have been standing 1;

3 Armstrong’s Carrickfarm Mika.
