Border Terriers

An interesting entry. I found some very good class winners. I was disturbed by the frequency of poor hindquarters, often a result of poor croups & tailsets & lack of angulation & second thigh restuling in lack of drive.

MPD

1 Glebeheath Jump The Gun, 8 months bl/t, easy winner of this class for shape & movement. Well made at both ends, narrow front, excellent feet, very good head & eye. Doesn’t need any more rib. Excellent carriage & ultra sound, in good coat. BP;

2 Ragatam Poco for Borderbridge, 8½ months bl/t, racy, spannable with excellent pelt. Not the strength of foreface or front assembly of 1;

3 Ravenside Rumours about Caldewgate.

PD

1 Keycharm Phantom by Ridgebow, almost 12 months, excellent construction giving lovely neck & shoulder line, excellent quarters producing good movement at both ends. Excellent head. I found him just a little heavy in bone & a touch deep in brisket for perfect balance. Has a lot of type;

2 Aurgwen Dragonbane, 9 months, racy build, correct bone. Needs more angulation at both ends. Not the strength of muzzle of 1 & needs a touch more confidence.

JD

1 Comberdown Finnegan, very showy 12 months, lovely size & good movement, in excellent coat & pelt. Very good head & eye. I would prefer just a touch more angulation but his carriage & movement made him a good winner here & he pressed hard in the challenge. Should go on to good things;

2 Chatmoss King Orry at Moddeyaalin, 17 months red, bigger & rangier but well angulated, good neckline & very good movement, spannable. A touch long in loin & not the head or balance of 1.

YD

1 Merumhor Midwinter, 20 months bl/t, top measure for size but very good head, eye, bone & feet, in excellent coat. Moved well keeping firm topline, good head type. Tail a little long;

2 Otterston Top Brass, 22 months, good headed dog, excellent eyes & ears. Rather cobby in body & waiting for coat. Not the movement or carriage of 1.

ND

1 R Poco for Borderbridge;

2 O Top Brass;

3 Joncroft Templar Knight.

PGD

1 Grettacs The Wizard, grizzle, stood out in this class, has type & quality, in good coat & moved well, spannable, very good headpiece;

2 Stbedehounds Frank In Sense of Raleniro, bl/t, a little low on the leg for balance & not the front movement or head of 1. Good coat, correct ribbing, good topline;

3 Ragatam Newmarket at Badgerholme.

LD

1 Lairdhope Lord Of The Glen at Tweedburn, lovely size & type. I would like a little more width in front movement. Spannable ribcage, scored in neckline here. He could just put more into his movement & use his hocks more effectively but type & size appealed greatly;

2 Ycart Best Shot Remington, bigger dog in full coat. Tends to fly his ears but good head. Not as clean in shoulder & neck as 1 & a new coat will help. Ultra sound on the move & pressed hard here;

3 Dandyhow Jumping Jack at Glebeheath.

OD

1 Dandyhow Dr Walter, my group winner recently & I saw no reason to change my mind seeing him in the breed. Lovely size, excellent balance & very well angulated, in excellent form, very sound on the move. CC & BOB;

2 Iacheslei Cantus, beautifully headed dog, excellent spannable ribcage, moves very well. Just preferred topline of 1 but a top quality dog. RCC;

3 Cobstoneway River Magic.

VD

1 Bonosue Ozymandias, 10½ years, in great form, still raring to go. Excellent head, holds his topline well, in very good coat & pelt. Not perhaps as spannable as in his youth but still full of type.

MPB

1 Remony Winters Diamond, 7 months, small but workmanlike & full of type. Very sound on the move, spannable, in good coat, very good head. Tail a little short & set on could be better but had a lot of appeal here;

2 Ragatam Puzzle, 8 months, very typy, lovely size, head & coat. Not as firm in topline as 1 but still carrying some puppy fat. Should finish well;

3 Ridgebow Amberwitch.

PB

1 Dandyhow Sonata, 10 months, lovely puppy, in super coat & ultra sound on the move. Beautiful neck into shoulder, superb legs & feet, quality all through. BPB;

2 Baillieswell Lochindaal, 11 months, lovely size & balance, very good head & eyes. Ears a touch heavy. Very good ribcage & coat. Feet could be stronger & not as clean in front action as 1. I liked her type immensely;

3 Iacheslei Corus.

JB

1 Nantcoch Ffion, 17 months, lovely quality all through, in great coat with excellent head & well ribbed, spannable body. Excellent tailset & carriage, appealed greatly in head & expression. Just needs to be a little harder in condition & can do well;

2 Tythrop Time Flies, 16 months, racy, clean outline & very good legs, feet & movement. Not the strength in head of 1 whose expression I preferred;

3 Chatmoss Chelsea Girl.

YB

Good class for depth of quality.

1 Ravenside Zenyatta, top sized bitch but great type. At 18 months in the most wonderful coat & pelt, full of quality & excellent movement, good head proportions. Ears could be a little neater but looks a real working terrier. I liked her a lot. Made the last cut in the challenge, just losing out on femininity;

2 Baywillow Brown Braid, 19 months, lovely bitch whose size & movement & proportions appealed greatly. Lovely head & eye, good ears. Needing a little more coat to finish & that decided the issue;

3 Merumhor Solstice Belle.

NB

1 B Lochindaal;

2 I Corus, 11 months, very typy, in excellent coat, good head. Not quite the quarters of 1 but full of type;

3 R Winter’s Diamond.

PGB

1 Alcumlow Miss Sixty at Riseburn, bl/t, racy & well built, excellent angulation, tail set & carriage. Has quality in head & eye, in excellent coat;

2 Seymour’s Bubble And Squeak for Raleniro, grizzle, very good forehand & ribbing, good coat texture. Not quite the finish in hindquarters of 1;

3 Achnagairn Wild Card.

LB

Two excellent bitches to top this class.

1 Tythrop Touch On Wood, very well built, excellent angulation, topline & coat. Good legs & feet, excellent movement, beautiful flowing outline & lovely balance. CC;

2 Thistlestone Jenny Wren, preferred her head to 1 but not quite as clean in neck & shoulder. Very sound mover, in very good coat, I liked her enormously. 1 just a little crisper in outline on the move. Close up for RCC;

3 Kyscafter Kestrel.

OB

Quality class.

1 Wagtail Lass via Ycart, 6 years, lovely type & movement, spannable ribcage, excellent head & eye, very good legs & feet. I would prefer a little more coat on her to finish. Her movement & topline won her this class & RCC;

2 Ch Howthwaite In Violet, lovely body shape, excellent coat, lovely feet. Not quite as strong in muzzle as 1 who was a touch firmer in topline. However has great type & quality. More finished in body than

3 Ch Bramblebrae Violet at Shiftyfox.

VB

1 Rubicon Raincloud, 9 years, in great coat, very good head & movement. Still looks a fit for function working terrier;

2 Bonosue Queen Of The Nile, remarkable 13 year old who is still a very good mover & really enjoys showing. 1 had the pull in angulation & dentition now. Had I been judging with my heart would have been a stand out winner. Great credit to the breed & to her owner who has his veterans in wonderful condition;

3 Carrickfarm Maddy.
