BORDER JUDGE LEEDS 09

Border Terriers

On the whole, rear movement was satisfactory. However I observed front movement on some exhibits was unsatisfactory. I found one mouth with a misplaced tooth & another with a just passable level bite.

Presentation of most dogs was of a high standard, but some exhibits shown would benefit greatly from regular daily exercise.

MPD (6)

1 Hollingsbee’s Xapex Santiago at Otterwood, 6 months bl/t, pleasing head, good bite, nicely placed ears, good bone, thick pelt, level topline, carrot tail, rear movement was very positive, showed drive & although he had that puppy playfulness, his front movement appeared true. BPD;

2 Sugars’ Foxcraig Magic Aurora, pleasing head & expression, good bite, strong muzzle, good legs & feet, deep narrow body with correct length of rib. Needs to be a bit stronger in his rear movement which should come with maturity;

3 Rumbell’s Breadsall Jazzy to Beeley.

PD (10,5a)

1 Fawcett’s Carrock Clayton, pleasing head, good ear placement, correct bone, straight front, lovely racy lines, ribs carried well back, spannable & had an excellent pin wire coat, showed & moved well;

2 Shields’ Cedarhill Cuyahoga to Tarkadon, strong headed mature puppy, large teeth, correct bite, good bone, excellent coat, first class order. Thought he was my winner, but front movement could have been better, unsettled on the table & did not seem too keen on his neighbours in the ring;

3 Golding’s Ashbrae Fellman at Beaconpike.

JD (10,1)

1 Hunt’s Ethlencoral Pip of Ottaswell, grizzle/t dog, good otter head, short strong muzzle, large powerful teeth with scissor bite, good length of neck, well laid shoulders, straight narrow front, correct bone, tight feet, ribs carried well back, easily spannable, coat of correct texture & has a thick pelt, lovely profile, level topline while standing & on the move, good bend of stifle, well muscled first & second thigh & for this reason he moved with drive, presentation & condition was first class, responded to his handler to show off his qualities, movement sound. CC & BOB;

2 Bailey’s Grindelvald In Full Cry, quality dog, workmanlike appearance, pin wire coat, good reach of neck, forelegs straight, just enough bone, body narrow & spannable, appealed very much in type & size, moved well. RCC;

3 Mitchell’s Ragatam Joker at Paleside.

ND (4,2)

1 Christensen’s Kali-Kama Spin Doctor, bl/t, handy size, good bone, tight feet, masculine head, good bite, correct ears, front straight, spannable, harsh coat with nice ticking, moved well;

2 Kenna & Watson’s Bramblebee Little Tike at Cynetkoy, lacking coat, did not seem to enjoy his outing, consequently, movement was difficult to assess.

PGD (13,4)

1 Haughton’s Chorbeck Moonlight Shadow, good honest, workmanlike Border, coat was harsh & he had a thick pelt, lovely otter head, keen expression, correct bone, well angulated throughout, in good condition, movement was sound & free, showed well;

2 Richardson’s Ragatam Hawk at Staynorwood, very nice dog, full of type & substance, plenty to like about him, was pleased with his movement & balance. A pity he was short of coat;

3 Todd’s Vallemoss Voodoo at Foxess.

LD (8,2)

1 Peacock’s Ragatam Harris, strong masculine head, correct ear placement, good bite, strong teeth, in double coat, thick pelt, muscletone was evident especially in his first & second thighs, impressed by his overall quality. However his front movement could have been more positive;

2 Clark’s Gameway Charles Dickens, although this dog did not have quite the head of 1, he was of a good type. Good expression, neat ears, correct length of neck, spannable, coat was harsh & his pelt was thick. Thought his overall movement could have been more convincing;

3 Sugars’ Foxcraig Jester.

OD (11,3)

1 Davis’ Ch Hesslemere Hi Karate, bl/t, good headed dog, correct length of neck, level topline held on the move, excellent harsh coat, good ribs, racy lines, correct tailset, super condition, angulation correct which enabled him to move true, lovely dog to go over;

2 Todd’s Todlaws Furl O’Brise, bl/t, excellent shape & condition for age, lovely racy outline, level topline, correct tailset, in good double coat, racy hindquarters, good turn of stifle, movement positive, covered the ground effortlessly, nice showman;

3 Lee’s Ch Tythrop Tapas.

MPB (4,1)

1 Clark’s Southash Blue Betty Boo Gameway, very promising bl/t pup, lovely feminine head, good earset, correct bite, dark eye, straight front, correct bone, neat feet, found her easily spannable, good coat with ticking evident & a thick pelt, moved true & showed well for one so young. BP;

2 Scale’s Doramil Burnished Brass, raw puppy but looks as though she has all the essentials, which on maturity should improve. Pin wire coat, sweet otter head, good ear placement, action was satisfactory & she coped with her first outing well;

3 Cheeseman’s Bromscars Wasted Time.

PB (8,2)

1 Todd’s Kilburnpride Tinkerbell Todlaws, good head for age, strong muzzle, well placed ears, enough bone, racy throughout, coat was harsh, hindquarters were well angulated which enabled her to move with drive. Front movement acceptable but needs to settle. Showed well;

2 Thomas’ Benattivo Gem Stone for Dulace, nice puppy, lovely outline, level topline, good tailset, spannable & in good coat. Just preferred the strength of head of 1. Responded well to handler;

3 Kenna & Watson’s Benattivo Kissing Stone for Cynetokoy.

JB (17,4)

1 Maltby’s Stoneygin Dolly Mixture, bl/t, pleasing feminine head, correct bite, good front assembly, correct bone, small compact feet, nice reach of neck, balanced outline, excellent ribbing, easily spannable, coat was harsh & dense, well angulated hindquarters enabled her to move with drive & purpose, front movement was straight & true, turned out well & in good condition, natural showgirl. CC;

2 Girling’s Benattivo Rosina, nice, handy sized bitch, otter head, dark eyes, keen expression, good bone, straight front, spannable, in good coat & condition. Although slightly shorter in length than 1 she was balanced;

3 Pearson & Snowden-Hayes’ Oakpoint Fallen Star.

NB (8,1)

1 Johnson & Pearson’s Rexlands Golden Plover by Karison, feminine head, good expression, racy lines, good coat, her movement won this class. Was informed after the judging that this win qualifies her for her JW;

2 B Kissing Stone for C, similar lines to her litter sister who was 2nd in the puppy class. Smaller made than 1, movement let her down;

3 Singh’s Beeley Bestseller.

PGB (14,4)

1 Davis’ Hesslemere Miss Lemon, very pleasing bitch, good head & expression, in excellent condition, coat was like pin wire, enough bone & was spannable, good rear assembly. Just needs to settle when she is on the move;

2 Sugars’ Foxcraig Magic, liked this bitch for her workmanlike type, in good hard condition, head was pleasing & her muzzle strong, good rear angulation, correct bone, neat feet, movement good, looked as though she could do a days work;

3 Martin’s Stineval Celeste at Merumhor.

LB (11,3)

1 Morgan’s Glebeheath Minnie The Motor at Blewecourt, matured nicely, has a lot to like about her, correct otter head, scissor bite, good reach of neck, narrow & racy throughout. Coat just passing its best, but was still reasonably harsh & dense. Profile & showmanship excellent;

2 Woodfield & Bladen’s Foxyard Obsession, different type than 1, slightly heavier in bone, but nevertheless a quality bitch. Good head, strong short muzzle, easily spannable, just coming into a good coat, nicely put together, well developed hindquarters;

3 Fraser & Butler’s Wagtail Lass via Ycart

OB (5,3)

1 Fraser & Butler’s Blue Tutu via Ycart, bl/t, very pleasing bitch throughout, harshest of coats, straight front, correct bone, head is feminine, muzzle strong, good earset, nice dark eye giving a keen expression, narrow with ribs carried well back, topline is straight, correct tailset, movement was true, showed well. RCC;

2 Cuthbertson’s Ch Ashbrae Trinnie, one I have judged before, lovely otter head, keen expression, in good coat & condition, plenty of substance, nicely balanced, sound throughout, moved relatively well. She did seem a little unsettled at times.
