BORDER LKA 22 Judge: Mr J Bainbridge (Risdene) BORDER JUDGE LKA 22 A very promising entry on paper but unfortunately the weather took its toll! However I was more than happy with my main winners all were typical of what I look for in a Border Terrier and the proof that careful breeding pays off was demonstrated by the very promising progeny found amongst the youngsters. As is my approach to critiques, generally the winners in most respects all meet the standard which calls for a working terrier with an otter like head on reasonable length neck set into well laid shoulders, a moderate length body, well ribbed back, strong shortish loin, racy but moderate rear angulation allowing the dog to move with drive, in harsh double coat and with thick pelt. I do not therefore repeat this for each individual dog but I have highlighted the dog’s best points and the reasons for their placings. BOB Ch Thistlestone Glenfiddich. Considered this boy for top honours when I last judged, has since matured into the complete picture, well constructed throughout, shown in ideal grizzle coat and condition and comes into his own on the move covering the ground with ease. RDCC Ch Yorkpiece Fiery Lucifer Close up to CC winner, blue and tan also shown in good coat and condition but just preferred the scope and ground covering movement of winner. BCC Ch Alcumlow Bloom JW Good size blue and tan so well made, shown in good coat and condition and full of herself today which made her rather exuberant on the move but she could not disguise her sound movement. RBCC Bohamer York’ist Celeste By Tythrop TA This young bitch has such promise, blue and tan put down and moves so well and with maturity should soon be claiming top honours. BP Dandyhow Postman Pat. Winning best puppy on maturity, red grizzle developing into a dog so typical of the old type from this kennel as they say ‘breeding will with out.’ BV Orangecastle Zaurak at Foxfactor A cracking oldie enjoying her day out and displaying good condition and movement. These youngsters may change places as they develop, as this was such a promising group of babies. 1 Alcumlow Painter Man On Hobhill (Pickering) Light grizzle with well proportioned head and body, flowing top line, good quarters moved out well to win class. 2 Goxfell Gotcha (Stamp & Joyce) Similar type and make just preferred head proportions of 1. 3 Dassett Igglepiggle (Spafford) 1 Dandyhow Postman Pat (Irving) I liked this one for type and is developing into a typical example of the breed, good size lovely head and expression. 2 Rainsbarrow Thistle (Young & McCluskey). Not the maturity of 1 but nice type and sound on the move. 3 Foxfactor Spick ‘N Span At Northborders (North) 1 Raedwulf Nightfall (Atkinson) Red grizzle with well proportioned head on correct neck into well laid shoulders good length body and quarters needs time to further mature. 2 Tulawyn Garretson by Onthill (Ramus) Similar in most respects preferred head and expression of 1. 3 Howthwaite Godfrey To Otterbuck (Swallow) 1 Cobstoneway Stand By Me JW (Stevens) A class decided by fine margins the first two of similar make and shape and in good condition this one moving out soundly to take the class. 2 Pipruda Dark Rum at Beckholm (Sutton) Well put down in harsh coat. 3 Hunter Harry’s Son (Grace) 1 Pipruda Dark Rum at Beckholm (Sutton) 2nd in Yearling moved quite well. 2 Raedwulf Daybreak (Atkinson) Preferred the front assembly of winner. 3 Foxchapel Perfect Day with Foxcourt (Greenway) 1 Kevrah Orion Seeking Orangebox (Anscombe) Well made grizzle throughout rather too much of him all over, but very sound. 2 Fisherbloom All Eyez On Me At Sextonmagic (Maskell) Would prefer better angulation in front assembly. 3 Gwynfe Carreg Glas of Foxchapel (Davies) 1 Botterox Chaos (Hillman) Good size blue and tan moving well, well proportioned head and good expression that won the class over 2 but would ideally like him less trimmed out in underline. 2 Ravenside Helissio (Lowry) Close up and carries his ribs well back to give good underline. 3 Farlacroft My Friend Walter (Wait) 1 Ch Thistlestone Glenfiddich (Whisker & May) three outstanding dogs that do and will change places but for me this boy scores on his free flowing movement. 2 Ch Yorkpiece Fiery Lucifer (Lee) 3 Ch Otterbobs Tolson (Gilpin). 1 Clipstone Starshine (Jackson) Beginning to show his age but still moves out very well and is quite the showman. 2 Mysulan Going Solo JW (Baxter) Blue and tan that was put down well but would prefer better lay back of shoulder. 1 Weststar Lone Ranger at Ardenholm (Swain) Two nice size dogs, this blue and tan won on coat and condition. 2 Onthill Nighthawk (Pearce) 1 Alcumlow Monet’s Garden (Barber) Two promising babies this blue and tan, more mature and what a show girl, preferred her well proportioned head and expression at this stage. 2 Yeomeadow Fig (King) Moves well and displaying all the good features of her sire. 3 Onthill Dolly Daydream (Ramus) 1 Yeomeadow Fig (King) 2nd in MP but conformation winning over 2. 2 Stars Aligned With Alcumlow NAF TAF (Evans & Barber) Rangier than 1 but well put together with good head moved out well. 3 Picer Mirabel Ostler (Pickering) 1 Bohamer York’ist Celeste By Tythrop TA (Lee). This outstanding blue and tan headed a class of quality. 2 Ravenside Despacito (Lowry) Well made grizzle pushed hard but not quite the well proportioned head of 1. 3 Tojamatt Lacemaker (Matthews) 1 Northborders Chianti (North) Good size blue and tan with pleasing head on good length neck into well laid shoulder, considered in the challenge. 2 Otterbobs Aira Force Flegato (Fleming) Similar type and size red grizzle close up but just liked the showmanship of 1. 3 Havencroft Emerald (Cummins). 1 Picer Bess Pool (Pickering) Liked this red grizzle for type and size ,good head, front assembly ok, racy quarters, moved well. 2 Thistlemead Sundance (Heeley) Close up but preferred head of winner. 3 Sweet Olives Girl (Thornburn) 1 Liatch Madame Pommery at Wilholme (Shields & Glen) Nicely put together of good confirmation would prefer slightly more of her, moved out well. 2 Otterwood Nemesis Del Sextonmagic (Maskell) Nice type but not the head of 1. 3 Borderrush Magic Bean (Hall) 1 Orangebox A New Hope At Itsaso (Tanton-Joy) Well made grizzle with good head on correct neck into well laid shoulder and nicely proportioned body, moved soundly and with drive. 2 Olliesorchid Dame at Ragatam (Peacock). Similar to 1 but not moving so well but presented a pleasing picture. 3 Tyneotter Summer Solstice (Anderson) 1 Ch Alcumlow Bloom JW (Barber) Preferred her head and expression to 2 and presented in good coat and condition. 2 Tarkaswell Sea The Stars (Sansom) Moved soundly not the expression of my winners and not in as good coat but her other attributes kept her in consideration in the challenge. 3 Bimandi’s Banana Smoothie JW (Holmes) 1 Orangecastle Zaurak at Foxfactor (Stockley) Just liked her conformation and freedom of movement over her daughter. 2 Foxfactor Fancy Free (Stockley) Pleasing type of good conformation and in good coat. 3 Clydebeck Solitaire (Taylor) 1 Otterwood Aura At Borderrush (Hall) 4th in Limit, nice type with ok head but for me a bit longer in body than ideal.
