BORDER CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 15 Judge: Mrs P Clark BEST OF BREED : 4542 LEE Mrs J L Tythrop Timepiece BORDER JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 15 Border Terriers My thanks to City of Birmingham for the invitation to judge & to the exhibitors who gave me such a good entry in both numbers & quality. Thank you also to my two hard working stewards who kept the ring running very smoothly. I found the limit & open classes in both dog & bitch had quality in depth & they were a pleasure to judge. Thank you. VD (3,2a) 1 Freeman’s Bolt Tail Jebba, stood alone but worthy winner, strong short muzzle with superb white teeth, brilliant for age. Very well presented in super thick coat, has decent angulation, not moving quite as freely as I would like but good enough when he got into his stride. MPD (4,1) 1 Singh’s Tyneaster Undercover Agent for Vandamere, smartly turned out & showed well, head still needs to develop & slightly large in ear, has a good topline & tail well set on. Moved well in front; 2 Pickering’s Picer Fellemburg, nicely balanced pup in full coat. Moved out quite well & better behind. OK in head, just not showing himself off yet to full advantage; 3 Johnson’s Karison Kosta. PD (1) 1 Reeves & Hyslop’s Baywillow Blueprint, bl/t of nice type, good head & expression with dark eye. Good jacket with thick pelt, feet could be tidied to advantage. Well off for bone & doesn’t need to grow on much more. Difficult to assess movement as insisted on pacing but could move OK when he got into his stride. BPD. JD (2) 1 Ramus’ Onthill Aramis, bl/t in good thick double coat, typical head, nice length of neck set into good shoulders, moved well from well angulated quarters, nice type; 2 Bryon & Pounder’s Hemlockstone Nimrod, not the head of 1, nor the expression as slightly round in eye, has a good narrow frame with good topline & well set tail, good for size, feet could be tidier. GD (6) 1 Brewster & Green’s Stowthorney Mr Tickle, tallish dog but narrow & spannable, liked his head & expression & overall balance, in good coat, not behaving for his handler but did enough on the move to secure his place; 2 B Blueprint; 3 Hollingsbee’s Otterwood Caius. PGD (6) 1 Holmes’ Barnby Caramel Wafer at Bimandi, very attractive red dog, best of expressions with short strong muzzle, good eye & correct skull proportions. The right amount of angulation front & rear with level topline. Moved well; 2 Johnson’s Karison Keiser, another with a good head & expression. A little heavier in shoulder than the winner. In very good thick double coat & preferred his tail but two very similar types, moving freely; 3 Jackson’s Clipstone Starshine. LD (13,3) What a brilliant class, some super dogs had to go down the line or go cardless, some very close decisions. 1 Lee’s Tythrop Timepiece, fabulous bl/t the crispest of jackets on thick loose skin. Level topline held on the move. Tail bang on top correctly carried. Just right for size narrow & moved with real drive. Correct head proportions with good eye & neat ears. He has that indefinable extra really comes alive on the move. CC & BOB; 2 Thomas’ Daluce King Of Emotion, so unlucky to meet 1 today, another in wonderful coat & condition, not a hair out of place. Gorgeous head so full of breed type, topline, tail, movement same remarks apply, narrow & did not put a foot wrong, just lacked the animation of the winner today. RCC; 3 Lockley’s Crazy Frain Pilgrim to Chatmoss. OD (10,1) Another very good class. 1 Fletcher’s Wadeslea Mr Herriot, loved this dog, on any other day he could easily have taken top award. Best of heads, short strong muzzle with correct muzzle/head proportions, a really good eye that gives just the right expression. Well presented in very good coat, he moved very well covering the ground holding a good topline & tail just where it should be. In the final analysis just not quite as narrow as the main winners; 2 Jenkins’ Ch Badgerbeck Uncle Fester, another hair splitting decision, very nice type, in super thick double jacket, has very good balance & moved true with drive as he would from his correctly angulated shoulder & quarters. Very well handled & showed beautifully, he was slightly narrower than the winner but though has a very good attractive head for me he did not have quite the expression; 3 Dickinson & James’ Ch Badgeholme Epson Jet. GCD (3) 1 South’s Borderella Day Tripper, this nearly 7 year old stood 5th in the very good open class. He has a very good strong head with correct muzzle/skull proportions & expressive eye, good reach of neck, level topline & well set tail giving nice balance to his profile as he moved around the ring; 2 Bolt Tail Jebba; 3 Stevens’ Cobstoneway Ocean Sunrise. VB (2) 1 Baxter’s Am/Can Ch Sulan Fancy That, very smart showy 8 year old of correct size, narrow with good head, neck well set, level topline & good tailset, handled well to get best from her, she moved with drive. A little short of coat today; 2 Small’s Badgerbeck Tree Pipit at Tilmoray, bl/t in very good coat, pleasing head, but could not match 1 in bodylines or movement today. MPB (8,1) 1 Pickering’s Picer Flora McIvor, very appealing very dark grizzle coat which was thick & double on a loose pelt. Attractive head with strong muzzle, good dark eye & neat ears. Good angulation front & rear, moved very soundly & steady for a youngster. Well set tail correctly carried, very promising. BP & PG1, well done; 2 Moseley’s Abisu Jenny Wren, very much a baby, this pup had the prettiest head & expression, nice angulation front & rear with good topline, good double coat, moved well for age & has plenty of time to grow on; 3 Brannen & Kelly’s Brankell Double Or Quits. PB (8,1) 1 Broomhead’s Borderfox Pussy Galore, attractive pretty head with keen expression, narrow front with good shoulder placement & well angulated rear. Topline & tail both good. In very good coat, a nice confident puppy who showed well. Quality pup; 2 Sturm & Krainer’s Messalinas Nightshade Bella, liked the type of this pup, had a good head & correct eye giving varminty expression, narrow all through with good balance, super topline & tailset but her lack of confidence spoilt her movement going around; 3 Stevens’ Cobstoneway Love Song. JB (9,1) 1 Ritchie’s Iantag Red Ruby, very good bodylines with good length of rib, narrow all through with good head shape, good neck, firm topline & tail well carried, moved purposefully & soundly; 2 Girling’s Benattivo Good Friday, a strong but pretty head on this attractive bitch, muzzle is short, small neat ears & good flat skull. A good topline & well carried tail, she moved soundly. Coat which was certainly double was just passed its best & made her look a little more compact than she is; 3 Morgan’s Blewecourt Carpe Horam. GB (7,1) 1 I Red Ruby; 2 Sansom’s Tarkaswell Doctore’s Orders, close decision, similar remarks apply, pleasing head, good neck & shoulder, narrow front. In good coat, well handled & shown; 3 Baxter’s Strictly Blues Dancin. PGB (16,3) 1 Parkes’ Clevepark Dazzle, super head with correct proportions, short muzzle, good eye & neat ears on flat skull. In very good double jacket with loose pelt, nicely made body & moved well but not co-operating with her handler; 2 Baird’s Tojamatt Debutante for Dowgri, very nice type with lovely head, good angulation front & rear, moved very well, good tail well set on & carried, very showy, a close decision; 3 Dean’s Tyrian Fifth Element. LB Wow! What a class, they were all quality down to VHC & those who left the ring on another day I would have been very happy to place. Two blues bitches headed this class, both had fabulous blue jackets with undercoat, something I noticed lacking in some exhibits & both beautifully presented – newer exhibitors please note how the good ones are turned out. 1 Bladen’s Emblehope Dance and Dance, such a pretty unexaggerated bitch, everything as it should be, good movement, great topline, tail set on & carried correctly. The right size, well sat within the weight range that many will not. Would like a tad more length in her rib but nit picking, loved her head, in the final analysis which tipped the balance over2. RCC; 2 Lee’s Tythrop Turn Back Time, another very good one, sister to my BOB so hair splitting! Loved her, turned out to the minute, fabulous blue coat, the right size, very sound on the move, showed with animation. Two lovely bitches, just allowed my preference for head of 1 to tip balance; 3 Hales’ Ottaswell Aida at Hoathwood. OB 1 Johnson’s Benattivo Best Bet Karison, so many Borders with clever handling can look good when stacked but on the move they go to pieces, not so this bitch who is such an honest Border Terrier, straight forward in head & so typical of the breed, she came alive on the move which clinched her place for me, she moves so soundly, level topline, tail bang on, she looked a picture moving sound all ways. In full double coat, not overdone in any department. CC, her 3rd, I believe, well done; 2 Higham’s Comberdown Thistle, another quality bl/t, moved so well both ways with good topline & well set & carried tail, her coat was harsh & dense & she had a prettier head than 1, was very deserving & considered her strongly for the RCC, so unlucky to meet such strong competition today; 3 Dean’s Cedarhill Wish Upon A Star. GCB (2) 1 Freeman’s Borderella Snap Dragon, a very nice bitch who is beautifully presented in good coat, stood reserve in a very good post grad class of 13 present, not disgraced in any way, sound mover & showed well. Could do with a little more fill under eye to complete picture; 2 Sutton & Sugden’s Lady Fiona McTarry, a very nice jacket on this bl/t bitch but shorter rib with too much tuck up & not the movement of 1.
