Thanks also to the Officers and Committee for their invitation and hospitality and to my two extremely capable stewards Mr. Mike Hughes and Mr. Tony Coddington for their very helpful assistance in ensuring the smooth running of the ring on the day. Coats, as one would expect with the ever changing weather conditions, varied considerably but I applaud those who presented their exhibits with the correct double jacket. Of concern were one or two undesirable single jackets. There has been a trend in recent years by some exhibitors to present dogs short of coat, but they normally displayed sufficient evidence of a correct texture. The Border is not a trimmed terrier and long may it remain as such. Scissor marks also are so undesirable and detracts from the overall appearance. There was a variation in size but I was able to span the majority. Mouths on the whole were good but there were a number with small teeth in overcrowded jaws, certainly not what is required in a working terrier. Front movement in particular is still a cause for concern and is something that I have previously highlighted. Feet were generally good and all exhibits displayed excellent temperament whilst being judged. When it came to the more senior classes in particular, I had some very difficult decisions such was the depth of quality. Veteran Dog: 2 (0). 1. Martin s Dugaden Tusker ShCM b/t, presented in a fit and hard condition with an excellent jacket, good head and expression, nicely proportioned bodylines, moved positively and with enthusiasm on firmly padded feet. 2. Small s Tulawyn Oberon at Tilmoray g/t with a nice head and keen expression, had the thickest of jackets covering a good thick pelt, moved well but could not match the front and movement of 1. Minor Puppy Dog 8 (3). 1. McKenzie s Merumhor Midwinter b/t, I see he is sired by the winner of the Veteran class and has inherited a number of his good virtues. Strong masculine head with good underjaw, complemented with big strong white teeth. Well balanced he was presented in a harsh jacket and was the best mover in this class. He is up to size for his age and I hope he does not grow on. 2. Johnson s Kosmic Sun Over Karison. g/t, almost 9 months, loved him for type and size, he had a nice shaped head with neat ears and good expression. He carried a double jacket covering a good pelt with his lovely short carrot shaped tail completing the picture. For his age he has all of the essentials but needs to settle particularly in his front movement. 3. Tuffin s Othamcourt Chat at Oatsberry. Puppy Dog 7 (2) 1. Woollacott s Tufterslodge Ososimple 10 months old g/t, has an excellent head with good eye and keen expression. Strong in muzzle with good teeth, he has nicely proportioned bodylines for his age with a good tailset. He moved out with confidence retaining his topline. Good racy hindquarters and has the neatest of feet with thick pads. BPIB. 2. Green s Breckgreen Royal Mint, g/t, presented in a lovely dense harsh jacket. Keen expression, dark eye and correct bite, but not as good in head as the winner and was deeper in chest. Movement behind was better than in front. 3. Leaveys Wychwizard Abracadabra. Junior Dog 4 (2). 1. Jenkins Badgerbeck Pablo, b/t, presented and shown in a hard condition with the harshest of jacket. Built on racy bodylines he is slightly more up on the leg but is nicely proportioned with good bone and firmly padded feet. Narrow throughout he spanned with ease, moved soundly and looked good in profile. 2. Fulker s Foxpaws Brilliant Disguise, g/t, coincidentally both of these dogs are identical in age, I preferred him for height but 1 scored for maturity. He has a harsh jacket and thick pliable pelt is nice for bone and has good feet. His movement was a little erratic but once settled he went o.k. Graduate Dog 7 (0) 1. Wilson s Olderhill Afurtunado, just over 12 months, he is an attractive light g/t and is well balanced. Good head with keen expression and correct mouth. He has a nice length of neck with a narrow front and good lay of shoulder, the harshest of jackets covering a good pelt and tight feet. Easily spanned, moving he presented a good profile retaining his excellent topline . 2. Blakemore s Sextonmagic Willowherb, g/t presented in good hard condition. Not the strength of head as 1 but has a reasonable strength of muzzle and a nice length of neck. Ribbed well back, he looked deeper in chest than he actually was and spanned with ease. Moved out steadily he had a good jacket, scoring here to secure his placing 3. Squibb & Barker s Cobstoneway Lazy River. Post Graduate Dog 11 (1). 1. Stockley s Foxfactor Pied Piper JW ShCM. g/t, set down in super condition he stood out in this class, being handled and shown to advantage. Good head with dark points and keen expression with good strength of muzzle and excellent teeth. Possibly a shade deep in chest but is easily spanned. Good for bone he has firmly padded feet and looked good moving in profile. 2. South s Borderella Day Tripper g/t, he is a fine upstanding dog with such lovely ring presence and is very typical, but today he could not match the coat of 1 and although he moved well behind, his front movement could have been more positive. 3. Docwra s Bandicoot Double Take. Limit Dog 13 (3). 1. Anscombe s Orangebox Firecracker, g/t, he excels in breed type having a masculine head, keen expression and good strength of muzzle, lovely reach of neck and good shoulder flowing into a level topline with good tailset. His movement is sound and he presents a good profile picture. Easily spanned he is a great showman. 2. Spencer s Cobstoneway River Magic JW, g/t, a bigger dog which has well proportioned body lines, strong masculine head, good expression with a correct mouth. Set down in super condition he had an excellent jacket covering a thick pliable pelt, spannable he was a shade heavy and although he moved o.k. he was not as positive as 1. 3. Harrison s Iacheslei Cantus JW Open Dog 12 (3). 1 A. Harrison s Iacheslei Torus JW, 5 year old g/t, lovely for breed type with good head , eye and expression, strong underjaw and large teeth. A deceiving dog, he is balanced with good front angulation; well proportioned body lines and with a well turned stifle. He had a harsh dense jacket and although it tended to make him look a little heavy, underneath it he came to hand well and spanned with ease. He moved out soundly with positive driving action. I was pleased to award him the DCC, his third to give him his well deserved title. 2. Gilpin s Otterbobs Riggindale JW another who was lovely for his breed type, he has a really good head and expression, strong underjaw and excellent mouth. Built on nice bodylines with a good tailset, he moved positively both ways retaining his topline. He scored here for his good double jacket and thick pliable pelt which together with his sound movement secured his award of the Reserve DCC. 3. Bailey s Ch. Grindelvald in Full Cry JW Good Citizen Dog 5 (0) 1. Iacheslei Torus JW. 2.Davis Ch. Hesslemere Hi Karate JW, b/t, he is soundly constructed, has a masculine head and good strength of muzzle, nicely proportioned with good shoulders and topline, not quite the rear angulation of 1 but moved out well presenting a nice profile picture - a worthy champion. 3. Freeman s Bolt Tail Jebba. Veteran Bitch 4. These veterans were a credit to their owners and all appeared to be enjoying their turn in the ring 1. Steven s Springhill Pacify of Cobstoneway, eight years old g/t and extremely fit. Well presented in a good jacket she has good body proportions and is such a sound mover which helped to secure her placing. 2. Freeman s Borderella Elsa, almost nine she certainly belies her age. Not quite as good in head as 1, spanning with ease, she was presented in a harsh double jacket with the thickest of pelts and moved out with such enthusiasm on her lovely tight feet. 3. Maskell s Sextonmagic Bluebell. Minor Puppy Bitch 6 (1) 1. Martin s Merumhor Solstice Belle, b/t, I see she is the litter sister to my Minor Puppy Dog class winner. She is lovely for size and is so correct in all quarters for her age. She has an attractive feminine head with such a nice expression. Well balanced, she was shown in an excellent jacket and once settled she moved out very positively for her age. Best Puppy Bitch. 2. Cadman s Junctionnine Woodland Babe, 8 months old and very much the baby in this class, she has a nice head and expression, good body proportions for her age with a good jacket and loose pelt. Moved o.k. but just needs to tighten up in front. 3. Wildey s Lockhaugh Timeless. Puppy Bitch 7 (3) 1. Payler s Badgerbeck the Vivacious at Jansara, almost one year old, b/t, with a good coat. Feminine head with keen expression she has nicely angulated racy hindquarters. Moved steadily and looked good in profile retaining her topline whilst showing her well balanced body proportions. 2.Holmes Bimandi Bubblicious, g/t who is 10 months old, nice head and expression with lovely dark eye, a good reach of neck and lay of shoulder, presented in a good jacket she showed well but as yet is not quite so well in proportion as my winner. 3. Haydon & Gibbings Earthtaw Catkin. Junior Bitch 10 (1). Three very promising bitches headed the line up in this class. 1. Girling s Benattivo Faberge, g/t set down in super condition, this bitch is so nice for breed type and confirmation. Feminine head with good expression and dark points, good neck and narrow in front. Shown in a good double coat she has well muscled racy quarters with a good bend of stifle. Well handled she was shown to advantage and moved with enthusiasm, good in profile, complemented by her small tight feet. With a little more maturity I believe she will trouble the best. 2. Dean s Tyrian Amulet, g/t, 13 months old and not as mature as 1, but so nice for breed type. Lovely feminine head with short strong muzzle and keen expression, good reach of neck with a nice lay of shoulder with ribs carried well back. Sporting a good jacket she moved out steadily and has very good small feet. She excels in front and scored here over 3 today. 3. Wildey s Bramblebrae Violet at Shiftyfox. Graduate Bitch 7 (2) 1. Norris Brookbank Tweed, a lovely harsh red jacket on this 21 month old bitch who is very typical and good for bone. She has a nice head and expression, good topline, flat rib and strong loin. Showed well and presented in good hard condition she spanned with ease and moved well. 2. South s Tamellia Penny Lane by Borderella, 14 months old, light g/t, not as mature as 1, she has a feminine head with lovely dark points and keen expression. In proportion, she has a nice topline and tailset, well angulated racy hindquarters and good feet. Moved steadily. 3. Johnson s Karison Kokoa. Post Graduate Bitch 9 (3) 1 Stevens Cobstoneway Bayou Sunrise g/t, strong in head, keen expression, good strength of muzzle and underjaw. Good shoulder and rib she spans with ease and presents a good profile both standing and on the move. Well presented in a good harsh jacket to secure her placing. 2. Wilson s Olderhill Oriana g/t with feminine head and expression, good reach of neck into well laid shoulder with good rib. Nicely proportioned throughout she was well handled and moved with purpose. 3. Jenkins Badgerbeck Ballerina. Limit Bitch 16 (3) A super class to judge with so many quality exhibits present and many hard decisions to be made. 1. Jackson s Cobstoneway Moonriver at Clipstone , 2 year old g/t. The last time I judged I awarded her BPIB and she has well and truly fulfilled my expectations. Set down in hard, fit condition with a harsh dense double jacket covering a thick pliable pelt, she has a pleasing head with good strength of muzzle, good bite and strong underjaw. Her good body proportions, neat tight feet, sound confirmation and elegant free movement portrayed a super profile picture.I was delighted to award her the CC and BOB, her third, which gives her thetitle she is so worthy of. 2. Bladen s Foxyard Better Behave at Emblehope b/t in a good jacket, another who is so well proportioned with a feminine head, lovely shaped ears, good expression, nice reach of neck into well laid shoulders and ribs carried well back. She has a lovely topline with a good tailset and good feet. Not the showmanship of 1 today but scored for her lovely breed type and is another who I am sure is destined to reach top honours. 3. Martin s Bortino Smiling Queen. Open Bitch 7 (0) 1. Gregory s Ch. Remony Barley Twist JW, g/t and what a lovely enthusiastic showgirl she is. Presented in super condition with a good harsh jacket, she has a lovely head and expression, good reach of neck, good topline, racy hindquarters with good turn of stifle and is narrow throughout. She moved around the ring with such ease and confidence, she is a worthy champion and could not be denied the Reserve BCC. 2. Girling s Benattivo Rosina JW g/t, a very balanced bitch, she has a pleasing head, good eye and well placed ears with keen expression. Correct for size she has a good outline. Shown to advantage by her handler, she scored for her soundness and moved out well, pressing the winner hard in this class. 3. Fray s Grindelvald Miss Teak at Eltonfurze. Good Citizen Bitch 4 (1). 1 Borderella Elsa. 2. Johnson & Pearson s Rexlands Golden Plover with Karison nicely proportioned throughout and set down in excellent condition she is of good breed type and is well balanced but could have moved more positively. 3.Aldous Othamcourt Snow Bunting at Twigglestone. KC Breeder Competition 1.Mrs. G. Stevens Cobstoneway Four litter siblings made up this Team. Evenly matched they were all so typical and of a good breed type, they moved confidently and in unison across the ring, presenting a lovely picture in profile and could not be denied their placing. I was delighted that they were also placed first in the Terrier Breeder Group. 2. Miss. K. Johnson Karison three exhibits made up this Team, although of differing ages they displayed a consistency in type but could not match the outgoing confident movement that the winners portrayed. A super class to judge with so many quality exhibits present and many hard decisions to be made.

1. Jackson s Cobstoneway Moonriver at Clipstone , 2 year old g/t. The last time I judged I awarded her BPIB and she has well and truly fulfilled my expectations. Set down in hard, fit condition with a harsh dense double jacket covering a thick pliable pelt, she has a pleasing head with good strength of muzzle, good bite and strong underjaw. Her good body proportions, neat tight feet, sound confirmation and elegant free movement portrayed a super profile picture.I was delighted to award her the CC and BOB, her third, which gives her thetitle she is so worthy of.

2. Bladen s Foxyard Better Behave at Emblehope b/t in a good jacket, another who is so well proportioned with a feminine head, lovely shaped ears, good expression, nice reach of neck into well laid shoulders and ribs carried well back. She has a lovely topline with a good tailset and good feet. Not the showmanship of 1 today but scored for her lovely breed type and is another who I am sure is destined to reach top honours.

1. Gregory s Ch. Remony Barley Twist JW, g/t and what a lovely enthusiastic showgirl she is. Presented in super condition with a good harsh jacket, she has a lovely head and expression, good reach of neck, good topline, racy hindquarters with good turn of stifle and is narrow throughout. She moved around the ring with such ease and confidence, she is a worthy champion and could not be denied the Reserve BCC.

2. Girling s Benattivo Rosina JW g/t, a very balanced bitch, she has a pleasing head, good eye and well placed ears with keen expression. Correct for size she has a good outline. Shown to advantage by her handler, she scored for her soundness and moved out well, pressing the winner hard in this class.

3. Fray s Grindelvald Miss Teak at Eltonfurze.

2. Johnson & Pearson s Rexlands Golden Plover with Karison nicely proportioned throughout and set down in excellent condition she is of good breed type and is well balanced but could have moved more positively.

KC Breeder Competition

1.Mrs. G. Stevens Cobstoneway Four litter siblings made up this Team. Evenly matched they were all so typical and of a good breed type, they moved confidently and in unison across the ring, presenting a lovely picture in profile and could not be denied their placing. I was delighted that they were also placed first in the Terrier Breeder Group.

2. Miss. K. Johnson Karison three exhibits made up this Team, although of differing ages they displayed a consistency in type but could not match the outgoing confident movement that the winners portrayed.
