BORDER JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 10

Border Terriers

This was a lovely entry, thanks to the sporting exhibitors & I send my good wishes for a speedy return to the ring to the scheduled judged Miss E D Rumsan. Coats were at all stages & I have to say that there were some which had no evidence of a second coat.

Mouths were good except for, unusually, one overshot. Temperaments appeared to be OK, although a few lack confidence & were hesitant. The green carpet helped to show up some wide fronts & movement which did not extend & lacked drive, needed to follow a horse.

All my placed dogs spanned comfortably. I was not happy with some exhibitors who were constantly feeding their dogs, even on the table.

VD (3)

1 Axford’s Barterhound Rhinestone, really thick loose skin with close hard coat, good head & bite, moved correctly;

2 Morton & Shaw’s Ch Fehmarn Magic Lantern, smart dog, good pelt, good head, lovely big teeth. Movement straight, but a bit lacking in drive;

3 Wrenn & Langdon’s Dandyhow Sir Toby.

MPD

1 Tuffin’s Withershins Del Boy at Oatberry, b/t of good outline & length of neck, correct mouth & bite, nice big teeth, moved well;

2 Docwra’s Bandicoot Double Take, good jacket, head & mouth. Does not hold topline so well on the move;

3 Fraser & Butler’s Ycart Beretta Twelve Gee.

PD (6)

1 Girling’s Benattivo Stitch In Time, a pleasing puppy, good pelt, but lacking outer coat. Liked his head & expression, movement good;

2 Southam’s Gameway Papazzi, nice pup of good overall construction, moved well. Just needs to settle in ring;

3 Cadman’s Studstaff Heartbeat at Junctionnine.

JD (9,4a)

1 Ramus’ Opthill Fernando, smart Terrier, looked capable of work, good thick pelt & jacket, very good outline with strong quarters with good bend of stifle, liked his head & expression & moved enthusiastically;

2 Matthew’s Rexland Cock Robin, lots to like about this boy, good mover, pleasing workmanlike appearance, head typical Border with keen eye;

3 Squibbs & Baker’s Cobstone Lazy River.

GD (7,1)

1 Lockley’s Brave Rebellion at Chatmoss, b/t, really hard jacket, good teeth, well balanced dog of good overall shape. Could do with thicker tail, but otherwise very pleasing & moved very well;

2 Harrison’s Iachester Cantus, bigger dog of acceptable size, spans, head broad with strong muzzle. Seemed a little anxious. Good coat;

3 Ramus’ Onthill Super Trouper.

PGD (8,1)

1 I Cantus, now settled & moving well;

2 Cobbledick’s Laurelton Moonlight Cowboy, dark grizzle with good jacket, liked his head & strong muzzle with good big teeth & correct bite, well proportioned, moved OK, but I have seen him display strong drive;

3 Wright’s Totherend Flassh ‘Arry.

LD (15,3)

1 Dean’s Digmoor Captain Rook by Tyrian, very pleasing balanced little dog, well proportioned, typical Border head, good jacket & thick pelt, well presented, moved & showed well;

2 Higham’s Copmberdown Jailbreak to Vandamares, well balanced dog with good outline, head good, broad with strong muzzle, thick pelt. A little short of coat. Strong movement, pressed 1 hard;

3 Regan’s Digmoor Aces High.

OD

1 Bailey’s Ch Grindevald In Full Cry, really good type of Border, narrow, but plenty of heartroom & excellent pelt & coat, lovely head, eye & expression with good bite, loved his easy free movement. CC;

2 Thomas’ Ch Bryron’s Greengrass, a well balanced dog of good overall shape, good head with typical expression, moved well, pleased to find that he is already a ch. RCC;

3 Regan’s Digmoor Aces High.

GCD (3)

1 B Rhinestone; 2 Harrison’s Iacheslei Torus; 3 Freeman’s Bolt Tail Jebba.

VB (7,3)

1 Steven’s Sprighill Pacify at Cobstoneway, a lot to like about this bitch, good broad head, keen eye, pleasing outline, moved very well, holding topline, very enthusiastic, enjoyed her show & never stopped wagging her tail, short of coat;

2 South’s Borderella Emma, workmanlike bitch built on slender lines. Head not as broad as 1, but acceptable. Moved well;

3 Harris’ Penlumeg Paloma.

MPB (9,2)

1 Armstrong’s Blew Manhattan at Ploughdown, very promising pup, beautifully constructed, well laid shoulders, good length of neck completed by strong hindquarters with good bend of stifle, easy fluid movement, good head, strong jaw with good bite, good expression, thick pelt with good jacket, will follow her progress with interest. BP;

2 MORGAN Mrs T & Mr M Blewecourt Harlem

3 Milton’s An Cnoc of Ballieswell.

PB (19,3)

1 Knight’s Southash Party Night, pleasing, neat, b/t who showed plenty of Terrier spirit & was hard to settle, but very rewarding when she did. Good pelt & super hard coat, liked her head & expression & impressive teeth & bite;

2 Sharp’s Rhozzum Kyrie, slightly bigger pup of good overall construction & type, head broad with good muzzle, correct bite. Appeared to be giving her handler a difficult time, but could move with drive & showed well when free standing;

3 Aldis’ Torryburn Tickled Pink.

JB (6,1)

In this class coats were either absent or past their best.

1 Johnson & Williams’ Biddestone poopyseed, neat, well proportioned little bitch, well laid ribs & good topline, otter head, overall very pleasing & moved well

2 Lockley’s Foxthorn Texas Star at Chatmoss, similar to 1 in most respects, but tailset a little lower. Showed plenty of animation;

3 Roberts’ Smalesmouth Maylady.

GB (6,1)

1 Wright’s Totherend Taboo, stood out as best in class, well laid ribs & shoulder with lovely outline, excellent coat with thick pelt, well presented, moved & showed well;

2 Foxthorn Texas Star at Chatmoss, demonstrated free movement this time;

3 S Maylady.

PGB (17,4)

1 Parr’s Head Over Heels at Westpoint, b/t of good construction, really thick loose pelt, correct Border head, nice eye with keen expression, moved briskly;

2 Armstrong’s Badgerbeck Blizzard at Ploughdown, good topline, well laid ribs, good coat & pelt, easy movement;

3 Waller’s Worker’s Playtime.

LB (18,9)

A very good class.

1 Thomas’ Benattivo Gem Stone for Daluce, beautiful outline, good shoulders, ribs well laid back & good reach of neck, straight legs ending in neat feet, lovely hard coat & thick pelt, moved well holding her topline, very well presented & shown, pressed hard in the challenge & I think her time will come;

2 Dean’s Yeomeadow Heather for Tyrain, a lot to like in this bitch, really needs to settle in ring as she can be difficult to assess. Very well constructed, good jacket, pleasing head & expression & moved soundly;

3 Girling’s Benattivo Rosina.

OB (15,3)

Another good class headed by three super bitches, but others could well have been contenders.

1 Clark’s Southash Blue Betty Boo Gameway, my first opportunity to go over this beautiful bitch, what a joy, feminine, well balanced & of excellent construction, flat ribs, well laid back, super set of shoulders, good topline & tailset, well angulated quarters used to advantage to move with drive, excellent hard double coat with think pelt, loved her head & intelligent expression & I could see her working, shown & presented to perfection. CC & BOB;

2 Fraser & Butler’s Ch Blue Tutu via YCart, new to me, not surprised to find she is a ch, well deserved, beautiful bitch who looks really fit for purpose, excellent outline, very good coat & pelt, pleasing head & moved strongly. RCC;

3 Pickering’s Ch Picer Bright Idea.

GCB (2)

1 Aldous’ Othamcourt Snow Bunting at Twigglestone, puppy, nicely built, moved well. Out of coat;

2 Freeman’s Borderella Elsa, veteran, moved with enthusiasm. Enjoying her outing, but carrying some extra weight.
