BORDER BOURNEMOUTH 14 Judge: Mrs M B Reeves BEST OF BREED : 1722 ARMSTRONG, Mr E & ARMSTRONG Dr M Ir Ch Ploughdown Portia BORDER JUDGE BOURNEMOUTH 14 A very enjoyable appointment in spite of the wind and rain. I found some lovely borders for the top awards. The line up for the bitch challenge was especially pleasing, each one of top quality with some very promising youngsters. On the minus side there were too many that were wide in front. This is a serious fault in a breed who need to get through narrow spaces underground. Whilst I am always critical of dogs that lack rear angulation there are one or two appearing in the breed who are over angulated which is not correct for a border. Minor Puppy - Dog Entries: 1 Absentees: 1 Two very nice b/t puppies of similar type. Both well constructed all through with balanced angulation, harsh coats and correctly proportioned heads. Just preferred the somewhat narrower front of 1. and his more driving movement. 1st - Breckgreen Soldier Blue (Mrs. J. Green) BP. I was delighted to learn later that he went on to win 2nd - Otterwood Caius (Mr M J & Mrs J M Hollingsbee) 2nd - Kyscafter Frosty Jack (Mrs R Kelland) Another soundly constructed dog in plentiful coat. Head of correct proportion but rather too deep in stop. Graduate - Dog Entries: 3 Absentees: 0 2nd - Akenside Drummer (Mrs N Thorpe) g/t. Also of good construction with correct angles, harsh coat, thick pelt and ottery head qualities. Not a happy dog today. 3rd - Renaissance Rhododendron (Miss L E Westland) 2nd - Earthtaw Dexter (Mr M Gibbings & Miss J Haydon) g/t. Different type to 1. but has many good qualities. Straight front, balanced angulation and harsh coat and appealing head and expression. Strode out with purpose. 3rd - Akenside Drummer (Mrs N Thorpe) A hotly contested class. 1st - Badgerbeck Uncle Fester (Miss L M Jenkins) g/t. An impressive dog and fine example of the breed. Well constructed throughout with excellent length of rib producing a beautiful outline. Masculine head with strong jaw, neat ears and dark eyes. Coat just coming through. He strode out well enough in the rather cramped conditions. I was pleased to award him his third CC. 2nd - Hawcoat Lord George (Mrs E J & Miss R C Larner) g/t. Also of top quality. He is narrow throughout with a lovely straight and narrow front. Well angulated fore and aft with good length of rib, harsh coat with thick pelt and excellent head qualities. He moved out with purpose to win the Res CC. 3rd - Digmoor Bankers Bonus (Mr M P & Mrs S V Regan) 2nd - Bortino High Society (Mr D K & Mrs D Martin) g/t. A sound dog who is narrow all through with straight front and moved out well. 3rd - Stowthorney Swinging Sam (Mr R & Mrs J Brewster) 2nd - Chesterton Boutique (Mr A J & Mrs W Mooney) g/t. At her first show so needs to grow in confidence. Very attractive head, well laid shoulder and narrow all through. Puppy - Bitch Entries: 10 Absentees: 1 2nd - Torryburn Cadenza (Miss J Aldis) g/t. Narrow all through with good angulation, good topline, well ribbed back producing good underline. Attractive feminine head. 3rd - Glebeheath Gold'n Girl (Mr & Mrs D Nightingale) 2nd - Heatherdrift Foxglove at Earthtaw (Miss J A & Mr M W V Haydon & Gibbings) b/t. Straight front, good angulation, plentiful harsh coat, very attractive ottery head of correct proportions. 3rd - Badgerbeck Cha Cha Cha (Mr B J & Mrs A E Read) 2nd - Tojamatt Debutante For Dowgri (Mr W & Mrs T J Baird) g/t. Also out the top drawer. Excellent outline, narrow all through, well ribbed back, straight front, well laid shoulder and just enough rear angulation. Very attractive feminine head. 3rd - Smalesmouth Skype (Mrs J Roberts) Super class with some good ones going home cardless 1st - Ploughdown Placida (Mr & Mrs E Armstrong) g/t. Lovely size and outline, balanced angulation, straight front, correctly proportioned feminine head, shown in excellent harsh coat. Moved out true from every angle. 2nd - Foxfactor Cue The Music JW (Mr B J & Mrs K D Stockley) g/t. also presents a lovely outline with good angulation. Pleasing head qualities, straight front but a bit wider than 1. Moved out with purpose. 3rd - Benattivo Double Flame (Mr C & Mrs S Girling) 2nd - Kyscafter Kestrel ShCM (Miss L S Robbins) g/t. Another quality bitch of correct outline and construction all through. Straight, narrow front and moved straight and true 3rd - Bortino Smiling Queen (Mr D K & Mrs D Martin) |
