BORDER BORDER UNION 19 Judge(s): MRS J MARTIN (MERUMHOR) DCC WADESLEIA MR HERRIOT (MRS H A & MR A FLETCHER) I would like to thank Border Union Agricultural Society for the invitation to judge my first CC appointment in Border Terriers and to my ring steward Alicia Wilson for keeping me right and the smooth efficiency of getting each class in the ring to keep things going. I was delighted with the super entry of 123 dogs making 142 entries and appreciate all the exhibitors that gave me the opportunity to go over their dogs and the sporting way they accepted my decisions. The overall quality was excellent, I was privileged to judge so many lovely dogs and I was pleased with my main winners, all looking in tip top condition on the day. I was surprised that in some of the exhibits that underneath good coats there was lack of condition and a bit thin and some were lacking thick skin and loose pelt that is important in our breed. MPD (4, 1) 1 Reynolds’ Etterbern Edenbbank Ranger. A smart b/tan 8 month old dog. Good head with big teeth. Beautifully presented in tight jacket, level topline which he kept on the move and short tail straight off the back. Good bend of stifle. Liked his size. 2 Dixon’s Thornheswin Ring Of Fire. Another smart g/tan 8 month old dog, more up on the leg than winner. Another good head with neat dark ears. In super double jacket and plenty of loose pelt. 3 McKay’s Achouffe McKays Fable. PD (3) 1 Bullen’s Blaisdon One Step Beyond To Fevstone. A darker g/tan dog built on racy lines. Stong head with neat ears. He was presented in a harsh coat with plenty of loose pelt underneath. Nice straight front and was the best mover in class. 2 Reynolds’ Etterbern Edenbank Ranger. 3 McKay’s Achouffe McKays Fable. JD (6) 1 Dean’s Cedarhill Melt In The Mouth. A g/tan dog who had lots to like about him! He has a super head, flat skull and strong muzzle with keen dark eye. He was shown in a tight jacket with a good pelt. He has a level topline and carrot tail straight off the back. Liked his overall balance. Considered him for higher awards. 2 Morton-Shaw’s Fehmarn Moel Ceiliog. Another g/tan dog with an excellent head, broad skull and strong muzzle. Well turned out in a harsh coat and loose pelt. Preferred movement of first. 3 Inness’ Cedarhill Dish Of The Day For Dexlin. YD (6, 1) 1 Dassett Last Waltz JW. This g/tan dog has a really super head, flat skull and strong muzzle with big teeth and keen expression. Another shown in good tight jacket and loose pelt. He is narrow in build with good rear angulation which he put to good use moving with drive round the ring which was enough to win him the RDCC. 2 Aldous’ Twigglestone Steps To Hevn. A g/tan dog with a good head. He was shown in super tight jacket and had a lovely topline. Moved ok. 3 Boyd’s Thornheswin New Beginning. GD (2, 1) 1 Milton’s Baillieswells Ncn’ean. Hard to properly assess this youngster as he was very unsettled on the table and not keen to let me go over him. He has a good head and I liked his expression. He is a nice size and has a lovely profile when he did stand still! Shown in full coat. Sadly did not move for his owner today who had a difficult job, but still worthy of his placing. PGD (4) 1 Dantinnes’ Cedarhill Heaven Sent. A lighter g/tan dog shown in a tight jacket with a nice head and expression who was narrow in front and moved well to take this class. 2 McLeod’s Akenside Feckless. A darker g/tan dog who has a strong head and dark ear. He has a super harsh jacket and moved ok when settled. 3 Boyd’s Thornheswin New Beginning. LD (11, 3) 1 Irving’s Dandyhow Captain Morgan. A g/tan dog that has a good head with neat ears. Shown in super tweedy coat and loose pelt with small feet. He well balanced and a handy size, narrow built with a level topline and carrot tail coming straight off the back. Moved well. 2 Reynolds & Marston Pollock’s Etterbern Sloan Ranger. Another g/tan dog that had a typical head and good reach of neck and lovely topline. Super harsh jacket, very showy. Not as positive as winner on the move. 3 Dixon’s Stineval Pontiac. OD (7, 3) 1 Fletcher’s Wadesleia Mr Herriot. A g’tan dog that has a super otter head, strong muzzle, with neat dark ears – not overdone in any way. He is well balanced, good topline with a narrow front and good rear angulation and has nice tight feet. He was shown in the best of coats with plenty loose pelt. He moved with drive for his handler and was delighted to award him DCC and BOB. 2 Lorraine & Thomas’ Raleniro Second Time Around ShCM. Another g/tan with good head shown in a bit less coat today with racy outlines. He has a nice narrow front but did not have the same drive behind as my winner. 3 Gregory’s Remony For A’ That. Moved well. 3 Irving’s Dandyhow Pandora. JB (13, 2) This was a lovely class with lots of quality bitches. 1 Johnson’s Karison Kalluna. A g/t bitch with a lovely otter head with neat ears. She was shown in a cracking tweed jacket with lots of depth and good loose pelt. I liked her size, a compact bitch with good reach of neck and a nice topline with short carrot tail straight off the back. She moved really well. 2 Mason’s Valicetarn Velvet.
