WELSH JUDGE MANCHESTER 16

Welsh Terriers

It is always a great honour to judge my beloved breed & I thank all the exhibitors who come under myself. General observations were that presentation was extremely diverse from over trimmed to woolly bears. Heads are a great concern, quite a few had large heavy ears with short foreface & light eyes, losing all the classic Welsh Terrier expression.

PD

1 Humphries’ Penparc Skyfall, 9 months mature puppy with so much bone density, big enough. Underneath the woolly bear look was a smart dog, good topline & shoulder placement, low hocks & a good bend of stifle. Strong Welsh head, movement very difficult to assess. Needs to be in show condition.

JD

1 Averis’ Saredon Judgement Day, 14 months, good bone with good shape, lovely topline, low hocks, tail on top. Good ribcage & depth. Welsh head, good eye, correct length & ear carriage. Moved well. CC;

2 Hughes’ Felstead Frankie at Mokath, 15 months, shade long in back & high in leg which spoilt his shape. Good Welsh head & moved OK. Overall a good honest dog who showed well, in good coat condition.

PGD

1 Humphries’ Serbonche Breuddwyd Mam, thick set dog, very stocky, Welsh type, good size. Wide in front & hocks going out. Presentation could be improved.

LD

1 Shacknell’s Romaunt Walking The Dead, good honest dog. Welsh in type, bit long in back, poor topline. Good coat & condition. Sound moving, showed well.

OD

1 Malzooni’s Hampton Courts Ivy Leaque Stlye, good size, short back, pleasant outlook, good topline. Upright in shoulder, moved OK. Failed in head as ears were on the large side, set far too low, short in foreface, therefore not giving that Welsh Terrier expression that is desired in our breed standard. Showed & handled well. RCC.

PB

1 Young & Potts’ Kebulak Fallen Angel, 11 months, make & shape good, a little long in back, high hocks, good topline. Tail on top. Ears a bit on the large side & low set but did use them. BP;

2 Collins’ Collidale Boudica, 10 months, small bitch all round, very alert, movement difficult to assess, very sweet & dainty. Would have liked more breed type.

JB

1 Robertson’s Renevis Rhapsody, compact, cobby bitch with good Welsh features. Lovely topline, good shoulder placement. Earset correct but would like more length of foreface & a wee bit more of her all over. Moved & showed well, tiptop show condition.

PGB

1 Spragg’s Westpenn If You Be My Baby, good Welsh expression. Slightly upright in shoulder, high hocks, looking a bit lanky. Good topline & tailset. Moving well. Good presentation & showed well;

2 Varey’s Marlinsk Don’t Stop Me Now, good length of head but ears a bit on the small side. Nice shape & outline, tail on top. Slightly narrow front & high in leg. Showed well & put down in good condition.

LB

1 Davies & Bradley’s Perrisblu Coco, nice shape making a good outline. Lacks length of foreface & ears, just made the lift when she used them. Short back, good shoulders, moved OK. Presented & showed well;

2 Graham’s Stanstead Miss Whiplash, good Welsh head, shade long in back & high in leg. Nice length of neck, good shoulder placement, sound honest bitch.

OB

1 Snow’s Felstead Prim, the best exhibit in presentation, correct length of coat all over, jacket to die for! Coal black, the proper topcoat & undercoat which is seldom seen these days. Welsh all over, compact, lovely topline, low hocks. Lovely feminine head with super expression, good ear placement & eye. Good depth & spring of ribs. Neck going into correct shoulder placement, short back. Would have liked more stride in movement. Showed very well. CC & BOB;

2 Hughes & Pearce’s Knowlelion Bertha Brainbox, 7 years, solid honest Welsh type. Good spring of ribs, well placed shoulders, level topline, tail on top. Sound moving, better presentation, would have done credit to this bitch. Head Welsh but was very reluctant to use her ears. RCC.
