WELSH CRUFTS 22 Welsh Terrier - Judge: Mrs S Connell Thank you to the Crufts committee for their invitation to Judge Welsh Terriers, and to my efficient steward who managed the ring so well. Special thanks to all the exhibitors for entering their dogs. The majority of the exhibits had the characteristics which are typical of the breed, however I was concerned with a few who lacked breed type and could only be described as black & tan generic terriers. 1 Bennett - Tough Cookie at Bolhaus – 8 ½ year old male who has a decent head and expression. His shoulders are well laid back, straight, well boned fore legs, level top line, correctly angulated quarters and moved soundly, but lacked enthusiasm. 1 Nitka & Schmid – Omar vom Granitfelsen – Nice size and balanced throughout, correctly angulated in both front and rear construction, level top line. His head could be cleaner and have a touch more length. He moved soundly both fore and aft and was presented in good condition. 2 Gething – Tiltser Thunderbolt – His head could be cleaner, and his ears were erratic today. Enough neck, straight & well boned fore legs, level top line and a good tail set. He is longer coupled and is not as true on the move as the winner. 1 Cassidy – Perrisblu the Patriot – A decent type who is nicely constructed and well balanced. I would prefer more refinement in his skull, he has correctly placed shoulders, level topline and ribs well carried back to a short loin. His quarters are correctly angulated, and he moved very soundly both fore and aft. 2 Plumbly – Bolhaus Sedbergh scholar – Heavy in head, enough neck into shoulders which are too upright. Straight well boned fore legs, he is long coupled, and his coat and condition need improvement. He moved very close behind, turning his back feet outwards. 1 Hughes & Pearce – Knowlion The Real Deal – Correctly constructed dog who is a nice size and balanced. His head is of desired proportions with a typical expression, which is attributed by the size and placement of his eyes and ears. His neck flows into shoulders which are set at the desired angle with the correct length and angulation of upper arm. His front assembly mirrors his quarter angulation which is evidenced when he moves with the desired foot fall in front and rear movement. He has a level top line and his ribs extend back to a short loin. He has super bone and substance and was presented is excellent condition. DCC. 2 Yu & Denk – Gregory Peck from Michael – Typical male who has a good head, although he is a little full in eye which affects his expression. He has correctly placed eyes and ears, muscular neck into a decent front assembly. Level top line and correctly angulated quarters. He was presented in super condition and moved soundly behind. 3 O’Connell – Darwyn The Best Is Yet To Come 1 Davies – Ch Perrisblu the Equalizer – A nice type who is correctly constructed in both his front and rear angles and has good bone and substance. His head is typical, and he has a decent expression. His neck is muscular, and his top line is level, his ribs extend back to a short loin and he was presented is super condition. He moved true both fore and aft with correct foot fall when viewed from side profile. I preferred the eye and expression of the CC winner. RDCC. 2 Lewis – Cwmmeudwy Harri Tudur – Bigger dog than 1st and a different type. He has a wonderful head and expression, level top line, correctly placed shoulders and good quarters. He moved true both ways and was presented in super condition. I preferred the breed type of the winner. 3rd Martin – Ir Ch Welsh attitude mister bombastic Gaelgorm 1 Thomas – Saredon Desert Bloom at Somerwell - 8 year old lady who was presented and conditioned to an excellent standard. Typical expression culminating from her correctly placed eyes and ears. Her neck fits into shoulders set at the desired angle, level top line and her quarters are well developed in muscle tone. She moved soundly both fore and aft. BVIB. 1 Davies – Diamond Crown – Not the flashiest of bitches, but she is very typical as she has the breed characteristics and is ultra sound both fore and aft. Her head is clean and a good length with correctly placed eyes and ears portraying a correct expression. Her front and hind construction have the desired angles which culminates in her balanced outline. She moved true both fore and aft and was presented in super condition. BPIB. 2 d Taffu – Welsh Attitude Six Sense – This puppy is more eye catching than the winner and she has a lovely head, although her eye is not as typical for the breed as 1st. Her neck flows into her shoulders which are set at the desired angle and her top line is level. Her ribs extend back to a short loin, and she has a good tail set. Her quarter angles are far too exaggerated which is evidenced when she moves as she has the desired reach in front and over drives behind which results with her extending at the hock and moving very close. 1 Averis & Barker – Saredon Amazonian Princess – Super young bitch who projects a balanced silhouette as she is correct for size, substance and construction. Her head is typical with correctly placed eyes and ears, culminating in a typical expression. Her neck flows into shoulders which are well laid back and she has a textbook front assembly. She has a level top line, and her ribs are carried back to her short coupling. Her quarter angles mirror her front assembly and when she moves, she is extremely true both fore and aft with correct foot fall. She was presented is super coat and condition and handled to a high standard. She is only young, and she should have a bright future. RBCC. 2 Schmid – Zara od Guvernera Import Tschechien – A bigger type of bitch than 1st who was nicely constructed, excellently presented and moved true both ways. Her head is not as typical as the winner. 1 Sinclair, Hughes & Pearce – Pegillo Peekaboo – A lovely bitch who has a typical head and expression. A well-constructed front assembly, level top line, well developed quarters which are correctly angulated, and she was presented in super condition. She moved soundly both ways. 2 Nemesszeghy – Terrierix Sara Melas – A smaller type who has bone and substance. She has a good head, eye and ear, correctly angulated front, level top line and good quarters. Moved true both ways. 3 Clarke & Jones – Westpenn My Baby’s Sweet. 4 Watkin Jones – Little Blossom Of The Sky LB (7/1) 1 Spraggs – Westpenn Black Magic Woman – Nice feminine bitch of a good type. She has a typical head and expression, good neck and shoulders set well back, straight well boned fore legs, level top line and nicely angulated quarters. She was presented in good coat and condition but would benefit from extra trimming on her quarters. She moved true both ways and showed very well. 2 O’Connell & Hotchin – Knowlelion Skys The Limit – I liked this bitch very much and thought she could have won this class, but unfortunately she didn’t put all in today. She is balanced and typical and has a lovely head with correctly placed eyes and ears, level top line, correctly angulated front and quarters and moved true both ways. 3 Lieblova – Whiskey od Guvernera - Similar attributes to the winner and she was shown in good condition. She moved true both ways but not as animated as 1st 4 Mathias – Dalys Bbrenhines Cymru at Dapperdax. 5 Watkins Jones – Little Blossom of the Sky 1 Csaba Denk – Etna from Michael – This bitch is in a class of her own. She is the correct size, has bone, substance, correct proportions and is so well constructed. Her head is beautiful and very typical for a Welsh, she has a super expression which is attributed by her correctly placed ears and eyes which are of the correct size. Her neck is muscled and slightly arched and fits into a textbook front assembly, as her shoulders are set at the desired angle, and she has the desired length of upper arm. Her fore legs are straight and well boned, and she has good feet. Her top line is level, and her spring of rib extends back to a short loin. Her quarters are well developed in muscle tone and her angulation mirrors her front assembly. She was presented in wonderful coat and condition and moved true both fore and aft with the desired footfall when viewed from side profile. She never stopped showing and I couldn’t take my eyes of her and had no hesitation with awarding her the CC & BOB. 2 Pijunovic & Bark – Am Ch Monaline Unit Ew – Smaller bitch who is short coupled. She has a good front assembly, level top line and nicely angulated quarters. Her head is typical, and her eye is of the desired size and correctly placed, her ears are on the large side and lack the required lift to enhance her expression. She moved very soundly both ways and was in super coat and condition. 3 Pijunovic & Bark – Monaline Navi at Paperman. 4 Smeets & Bailey – Ni & Lux Ch Diamont Girl Of The Southern Point 1 Thomas – Saredon Desert Bloom at Somerwell
