WELSH JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 14

Welsh Terriers

Very difficult entry to judge as it was impossible to be consistent with type.

PD (2)

1 Ashton’s Red Kite to Kitesprite, 10 months, poised & carried himself well in profile. Good basic head type, moderate angles front & back, topline needs to firm up & he comes on a little wide;

2 Shaw’s Alokin Alchemy, 9 months possibly a little better balanced outline than 1 but refused to make the best of himself on the move. Lovely head & typical expression, excellent colours, not quite as well angulated rear as 1.

JD (1)

1 Williams’ Trebettyn Curious George, 14 months with pleasing head but level bite, good angles front & back with plenty behind the tail but has a bit of length about him. Coat coming through & needs to finish in body. Moved adequately.

LD (2)

1 Connell’s Sonorra Danny Dazzler, bang on for type, all Welsh from nose to tail, balanced head, keen expression, beautiful balanced with copybook construction. Nicely bodied, well ribbed, firm back line with excellent set on. Optimum angulation without exaggeration front & back, harsh coat impeccably presented, sound & steady mover. Won what was evidently his crowning CC & BOB, being shortlisted in the group under Ron Menaker;

2 Bradley & Williams’ Aman Man That Cant Be Moved, older than 1 but looked less finished in body. Good basic head type but ears could be more settled. Elegant neck, topline not as firm as 1 & not as well let down in the rear. Excellent coat texture, not as settled on the move as 1.

OD (3)

1 Potts’ Ir Ch Kebulak Trigger Happy, very well finished, masculine head, well bodied, excellent jacket well presented, solid, good neck and topline, steady mover but could come on a little more cleanly. RCC;

2 Chong & Wong’s Int Ch Aman Raider Of The Lost Ark, neat, compact & balanced, again well presented, clean outline. Not as overtly masculine as 1 whose eye & expression I preferred;

3 Hughes & Pearce’s Demorner Hats Off.

PB (2)

1 Hughes & Pearce’s Knowlelion Keep It Secret, 10 months, typical but feminine, very well balanced head, keen eye, clean outline, compact & well angulated, pleasing coat texture, nicely coordinated mover. BP;

2 Riley’s Sonorra Dream Spell, 9 months carrying too much weight, a little stronger in backskull than 1 & not so settled in ears. Quality coat of good colour, preferred tidier dentition of 1.

JB (1)

1 Graham’s Stanstead Miss Whip Lash, 13 months, excellent overall type & set up makes a pleading picture. Lovely head & expression, good angles front & back, coat texture could be a little harsher & tail carriage is a little tight. Moved smartly.

LB (1)

1 Ashton’s Kitesprite Flights Of Fancy, good basic type, excellent head & expression, very solid body – almost too much so! Could use a little more angulation front & back but moves quite soundly.

OB (3)

1 Potts’ Kebulak Femme Fatale, not quite the head type I wanted but she was the overall package – on her toes, moving true & beautifully presented. Excellent size & shape, looked like a show dog. Won her first CC;

2 Poole’s Alokin Alive And Kicking, preferred her head & expression to 1 but she wasn’t as collected on the move which eased the challenge. Excellent type all through. Concentrating & moving with more coordination she can do a lot better. RCC;

3 Hughes & Pearce’s Knowlelion Calamity Jane.
