WELSH BATH 24 Judge: Mr M Sanders It’s not easy to gain the numbers to award CCs in this breed but eventually I got there so today I was so much looking forward to this appointment. This breed may lack numbers but not in quality. So the scene was set with a ringside of discerning Terrier experts which contributed to the atmosphere! 1 Cole, Ch Perrisblu The Phantom. This breeder has produced many high quality Welsh Terriers over the years but in my opinion this chap is probably the best. Instant attraction to this one. On inspection on the table I found him flawless. His head is masculine with correct proportions with strength in foreface with big white teeth. Small dark expressive eyes which give of such a wicked look. Good width in skull with clean cheeks all topped off with neat well placed ears. Good crest in neck which flows into a clean front assembly with good fill in forechest. His forelegs are parallel and standson quality bone with cat-like feet. Ribbing is extended well back with a correct topline which leads to a high set tail with plenty in shelf. His rear angles are moderate which leads to short parallel hocks. On the move he displays true parallel drive with good reach in front whilst holding an eye-catching profile on the go around. He was presented to perfection with a crisp wire jacket with a rich tan and he gave his handler one hundred percent at all times. Pleased to award him the CC and BoB. Thank you for the privilege and of course it did not end there; he went on to top the Terrier Group and eventually claimed the overall Best In Show Award. A golden buzzer moment for me! 2 O’Connell, Darwyn the Best is yet to Come. A fair exhibit all through. Correct proportions in head with correct dentition with plenty in foreface. Dark in eye all topped off with well placed ears. Neck flows into a clean front assembly. OK in rib. Topline is level and leads to a high set tail. Bone and feet correct. He moved out soundly and was presented in good order. RCC. 3 Hughes, Smeets, Ned Ch Knowlelion Real Deal. Unfortunately this exhibitor left the ring before I could make notes so hence no critique! 1 Watkin-Jones, Little Blossom of The Sky, 10 year old. No mistaking her for a Welsh Terrier. She is feminine all through. General body outline displays correct proportions and was presented in good order. Unfortunately not so sound on her pins nowadays but I’m sure was having a good day out. BV 1 Cole, Perrisblu Queen of Dreams. Only six months on her first day out. Yet again another top draw exhibit from this clever breeder. Quality in head which displays correct proportions with big white teeth. Dark in eye all topped off with neat well placed ears. Correct in neck and front assembly with parallel forelegs. Plenty in rib with short back which leads to a high set tail. She is moderate in her rear which leads to short parallel hocks. My kind of exhibit for sure. However, today she just wanted to play on the move giving her talented handler a hard time. Once she gets her act together I predict bigger and better things to come. Today, Best Puppy. PGB (1) 1 Watkin-Jones, Westpenn Just for You. 22 months. Fair all through for overall breed type. Head, eye and expression all correct. Neck flows into a clean front assembly. Enough in rib with level topline and high set tail. Felt she would benefit for more body condition but was well presented. Once settled moved out ok on the out and back. 1 Cole, Perriblu the Duchess. Yet another quality exhibit form this kennel. Correct in head which is feminine with correct proportions with good dentition. Dark expressive eyes all topped off with neat well placed ears. Plenty in neck with good ribbing. Short in back with high set tail. She stands on quality bone with cat-like feet. Wished that she just would have put more in on the out and back. Presented in excellent jacket. RCC today. Hope she wears her crown soon! 2 Davies, Diamond Crown. Enough to admire about this one. Head, eye and expression all good. Eyes ok, ears are well placed. Neck flows into a clean front assembly with plenty in rib. Bone has quality and jacket was well presented. Moved out ok on the out and back. OB (3,1) 1 Ferguson-Blakely, Kebulak Black Orchid. Has plenty to admire all through. Feminine in head which has correct balance with strength in underjaw. Dark expressive eyes all topped off with neat well placed ears. Her neck flows into a clean front assembly with good fill in forechest. Ribbing is carried well back. Tailset is bang on. She is moderate in her rear which leads to short parallel hocks. It’s on the move that she impressed, displaying good reach and drive. Presented in excellent jacket and handled by a “master” to gain maximum output. CC today, her third so now can claim the title of “Ch”. 2 Spragg, Ch Westpenn Black Magic Woman. Another to admire all through. Head, eye and expression all correct. Neck flows into a correct topline with tail set bang on. Ribbing is good. Bone and feet good. On the move she displayed good rear drive but was restricted in forward reach This for me was the deciding factor between these two exhibits. However she was presented in good order. |
