SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE WELKS 09

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers

This show was originally to have been judged by the late Gail Storey, so it was with a tinge of sadness that I accepted this appointment.

A quality entry. There was a very long wait to get into the ring, which I think was tiring not only for the exhibitors but also the dogs. Fortunately by the afternoon we could go out on the grass & while the weather was threatening throughout the judging we only had two short showers. Apologies for the following notes, which are not as full as I would have liked, & towards the end become rather repetitive as I was under great pressure to get the judging finished so that my BOB could get into the group.

PD (4,1a)

1 Whitehead’s Shanghai Shoggoth, masculine head, well pigmented & good bite, square, compact outline, coat of good quality, responding to handler & moved well;

2 Hobson’s Abiqua Wild Knight Romance, super little chap with many good qualities but too interested in the treats his handler was holding, glimpses of good movement ensured his placing;

3 Boulton’s Amberstar Yellow Submarine;

JD (3)

1 Clarke’s Loofahsah Scaramouche, Liked this dog for size, compact & well structured, nice head, good lay of shoulder, good mover;

2 Mason’s Emalot Tommy Tango, not as square in outline as 1 but with good construction. I was struck by his big black nose, just as stated in Standard. Coat soft, but quite short. Moved OK;

3 Cooper’s Merriwell Midnite Magic.

PGD (4)

1 Hanna’s Kinaelan Quietly Does It, well boned & in excellent hard condition, nice shining coat. Not settled on move but did enough to win the class;

2 Lawrence’s Snowmeadow Numinous Niilo, close call here, as this is a really nice dog, masculine & well balanced. He was unsettled when moving, quite a handful for handler;

3 Webster’s Kazeen Too Bright To Bovver.

LD (4,2)

1 Bott’s Whitevale Prince of Thieves, I loved this dog, good for type, masculine head, excellent pigmentation, nice front, level topline, good bone, moved around the ring with drive & confidence. Coat pale at this stage & a little flyaway, I would have preferred it to be tidier. Could not deny him the CC, I hope his next two are not too long in coming;

2 Boulton’s Dayshaun Sparkler for Diddidumkins, nice head, moderate neck & shoulders, well angulated, movement OK.

OD (4)

1 Herbert’s Ch Caidantes That’s Ma Boy, oozes type, strong head, square outline, good front, moves OK. RCC, which I also awarded last time I judged;

2 Dunhill’s Fantasa Blonde Kaos, liked this one a lot, not quite as masculine as 1, but they could easily change places in the prize cards;

3 Thompson’s Ch Linatina Great Gus

. PB (8,1)

Lovely class.

1 Bradford’s Abiqua Wild Lace Effect, pretty, compact little girl, excellent pigment & dark eye, good bite, nicely boned, level topline, moved well when concentrating, but this baby likes to play. BP;

2 Satherley’s Tobamorrey Sitting Pretty at Silkcroft, very close up to 1, feminine, good front construction, moved out well, good rear, plenty behind tail;

3 Escott’s Abiqua Wild In A Satin Sash.

JB (8)

1 Hammond & Evans’ Calvenace Top Totty, absolutely feminine & gorgeous, square outline with a lovely head, good front, level topline, pretty colour;

2 Howe’s Daisymaes Arrabella, little paler & slightly bigger than 1, but feminine enough. Moved well. Coat a little coarse, but this is developmental;

3 Ewing’s Loofahsa Amareuse.

PGB (10,2)

1 Boulton’s DenzillyTopsy Turvey, took my eye the minute she came in the ring, square outline, pretty feminine head, coat of good texture & colour, moved well. RCC;

2 Ford & McMurray’s Kanjuley Katie Scarlett, slightly longer, but again, nicely constructed. In excellent hard condition, coat shining, moved OK;

3 Hammon & Evans’ Calvenace Boodles.

LB (16,2)

What a class. Many lovely bitches left the ring cardless.

1 Mason’s Emalot Jean Genie, feminine head, square with level topline, excellent front, moved well. CC, & smart presentation ensured BOB;

2 Challoner’s Manyara Bean Mhi, has won RCC from me previously, smaller than 1, very feminine, quality coat with natural presentation, good tailset, moved with drive, close decision;

3 Hanna’s Kinaelan Quietly Confident.

OB (5)

1 Tilley’s Ch Snowmeadow Hetti Hopscotch at Starzak, lovely outline, feminine, soft coat with lovely flow, moved out well;

2 Munn’s Ch Ir Ch Snowmeadow Jellybean Jilly, quality bitch, similar comments to 1 apply & these two could easily exchange places;

3 Hanna’s Ch Kinaelan Cuchylaene.

Breeder Brooks, apologies to breeder for the way this class was judged. It was not in my judging book so I was surprised when they appeared in the ring. The dogs were of uniform size & quality & moved well together.
