SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE WELSH KC 09
SCWT WKC
I would like to thank all the exhibitors for the entries and the WKC for inviting me to judge and the weather proved good, pleasantly warm (well warm for the UK remember I do live in Cyprus) although we were inside, it was light and easy to see the dogs, the ring size was more than sufficient for the number of dogs in each class. I have been involved and or interested in SCWT since 1989 and feel I can make the following observations which are made out of concern and interest and certainly with no malice or motive. When SCWT were given CC’s they were a mixed bunch of different style of dogs but, I assumed and hoped over time, they would become more uniformed, I have to say they still have not, there are a number of different types and movement still needs to get better in order to challenge for consistent group wins. Mouths overall was Ok but I still had some missing and small teeth and some with very very tight mouth. I was surprised that rear movement was generaly as bad as last time I judged and needs to get better. I found a number of bitches not only to big for me and maybe most, but far to masculine some more so that some males. I feel I should also mention I have lived abroad for 6 years now and the last Wheatens I had seen was, when I last judged here 4 years ago. Well I have seen one in Cyprus but that’s another story. I had over 40 owners and only knew 5 of them and only one of those received one of the major four awards, so not sure how I was face judging as heard from one of the outside owners/ watchers. I was informed that I had 55 dogs at this show and that I also had 55 dogs last time I judges so thanks for that. I would like to thanks the exhibitors for the offer of a BBQ but had to leave to go to Leeds and then to a Christening early the next day in Durham, whilst writing this I am now back in sunny and hot Cyprus.
puppy dog
1. Youlden and Taylor Pippajam Break On Through, 7 months puppy who look very immature, but good type, coat colour and texture Ok for current age, head pleasing and developing well, good size and bone at present but hope he does not grow on any more, croup a little low and would benefit from more ring training, have to say very impressed with the rear movement. Later I noticed his mum won OB.
Junior Dog
1. Hobson Abiqua Wild Knight Romance, 13 months and very smart looking dog, impressed me when he came into the ring, very good for size at this age and unusual for me to say but, hope he grows a little, excellent head with good length and strength and small well used ears, short body with very good topline and tailset, movement Ok, very well presented and tidied, shown with style and professionalism. RCC will make up as long as he gets a little more size.
2. Clarke Loofahsa Scarmouche, 16 months old, coat of good type needs a bit more time for colour to show more, good for size, bone and substance, excellent neck and good topline, head good with correct size and well used ears, and dark eye just needs more time to develop moved Ok and well handled.
3. Whiteheads Shanghai Shoggoth
PGD
1. Noble Pippajam One And Only, 22 months old could be tidied better to enhance his virtues, on this note I feel a few dogs could have been tidied to enhance the dogs better, I understand how some view ‘tidying’ but some is allowed and in this case the coat was left on the rear of the dog making him look lumpy and out of balance, he was shown well by his owner but I felt this male could maybe have more terrier sprit as I felt he didn’t really want to be there. That said well made dog with good spring of rib, pleasing head and good bone and substance. I don’t know this kennel or dogs but whilst writing my report I saw a number did win well at this show so well done to the breeder and keep it up
2. Glew Wentloog Mozambique, 28 months colour not showing fully yet, the coat was sparse which was not from tidying making the dog unbalance and losing the required shape, short docked tail which spoiled the overall balance of the dog, I have to say he has a sporting owner who seemed as happy as his charge to be in the ring, this dog showed well and move ok
LD
1. Carter Chloeanco solar Infinity, 30 month old male very good for size bone and substance, very nice coat but could be darker, again could be made better with some tidying, pleasant head but not shaped to advantage with the use of coat, nice neck, firm strong body, moved sufficient.
OD
1. Dunhill Fantasa Blonde Kaos, 2 years male who entered the ring with terrier style and dominance, very good size with excellent bone and substance handled expertly as you would expect from this well know exhibitor, good long masculine head with well used ears and dark eye, coat good but will get better with time and maturity, well made dog with correct substance and bone, well sprung ribs good topline and tailset, moved and shown well, must admit surprised as I would expect this dog to be better trimmed to advantage after judging later found out he is a son of my CC when I last judged, today CC and BOB.
2. Barrett Ch Loofasha Teenage Dirtbag, 5 years old and very good for size and bone, very good masculine head and eyes, long neck, coat colour and texture very good with good pigmentation well balanced male, good neck and super topline and tailset moved sufficiently and well handled, on seeing the catalogue see he is a Ch and is well worthy of that title
3. Herberts Ch Caidantes That’s Ma Boy
PB
1. Taylor Amberstar Eight Days A Week,11 months very smart feminine and elegant female, of excellent size, super and correct moderately long head, of good proportions and well covered head, well used ears, leading to a long firm neck, excellent topline and tailset, good for bone and substance, well handled and shown and well deserved RCC and should make up
2. Satherley Tobamorrey Sitting Pretty at Silkcroft, Again smart elegant female slightly taller than first well presented handled and shown, very nice head with good neck topline and tail set moved well enough, should make up and be a good representative of the breed
3. Morrey Tobamorrey Ain’t I Precious should make up, good future for the breed
JB
I would like to make mention of the last placed female in this class who I like very much and really my type and shape, but she would not let me go over her, she was not fearful or showed nervousness, more like that look that females sometimes have which says, I am not going to perform today. As she did not show the correct terrier spirit or act as a show dog I will always place this character last, I did explain this to the owner after the class, but feel if she preformed she would have won the class and certainly challenged for the top awards, later saw she is a sister to my dog RCC and my Bitch CC winner
1. Matti and Omitogun Loofahsa Bohemia in Frontline, 16 months female of correct size, with excellent bone and substance a real honest female, very good for type of coat which when finished should be excellent, well handled and moved ok, could make up also
2. Smiths Janeyjimjams Jasmina, 17 months female again the right size for me, good coat colour needs more time to come through nice for bone and little long but that’s Ok for a female,
3. Hammond and Evans Calvenace Toppa Totty
PGB
1. Bradford Abiqua Wild Lace Effect, 13 months old really my type of bitch really good for size and demanded to be look at which shows, show experience but also terrier sprint, long feminine head but with strength and powerful,, good eyes, used ears very well, strong long neck following into good firm topline and tailset and short body, moved well and shown very well, tidied to enhance the shape and balance, CC and later seen sister to my RCC winner should become a Ch
2. Switzer Starcadia Ocean Destiny, 2 years old again a great size for me one of the best for coat textures and really good colour, shown to advantage by this well known and sporting owner, good head and neck excellent for bone and good body.
3. Howes Daisymaes Arrabella
LB
1. Dunhill Fantasa Blonde Krackers,2 years old sister to and owned by my BOB winner but handled by someone else, but again expertly handled but on the top size for me but still retained her elegance, needs to be more tidied to enhance her qualities, long head with good proportions, firm good neck moving into good topline and tailset moved sufficient for the breed
2. Dowy Denzilly Toot Sweet, 30 months female of good type, good enough head, good eye, nice topline well presented moved well enough
3. Hanney Lilwaukee Veni Vidi Vici
OB
1. Noble Ch Pippajam Gold Leaf, 3.5 years old of the right size for me, very good for coat texture and colour, very pleasing feminine head with good strength and dark eye with well used ears, firm strong and correct topline and tailset very well handled moved well and later seen to be a Ch which she deserves
2. Munn Ch Snowmeadow Jellybean Jilly well know CH and handler, good for size good head very good topline and tailset, was my BP last time I judged her
3. Howes Ch Emalot English Rose
Breeders group
1. Munn four wheaten who could be seen as the same type and same kennels, this class is new to me in the UK but not Europe and can be taken as a fun or serious class, and is not unlike Junior Handling competitions’ when the clothes and movement and turns are taken as drill. These did well but need more work if to win at higher level.
