SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE NAT DOG SHOW 09

Soft-coated Wheaten Terriers

Once again it was a pleasure to judge my breed. All exhibits were well presented & not once did I have to clean my hands after handling an exhibit. Some teeth needed attention but on the whole most were pearly white. Still not perfect bites in some mouths but there are worse faults.

We are certainly loosing some breed points, small ears & big black noses were scarce. Pleased to be able to say did not find any pale (yellow) eyes today. It was a pity that at this show the outside rings are not used but I think most exhibits were happy inside with such a big ring.

PD (1)

1 Salisbury & Kehoe’s Orliscwt Bobbin Along, 10½ month old pup, beautiful mouth, big black nose, strong muzzle, medium ears, lovely silky coat, colour just starting to come through. Moved close in front but true behind. Handled & shown well.

JD (2)

These two youngsters will no doubt change places many times, they both share a lot of the same good features.

1 Whithead’s Shanghai Shoggoth, just over 12 months old, good head, lovely mouth, level topline. Straight front which unfortunately was a bit lose on the move but should improve with age. Well let down hocks, beautiful coat of good colour, more free flowing on the move than

2 Clarke’s Loofahsa Scaramouche, good head & teeth, big black nose. Coat colour not as good as 1 but was lovely & soft. The way it was trimmed gave the impression that his front was not as good as 1 but it is. Good in body, deep chest. More stilted on the move, needs to be freer.

PGD (5)

1 Webster’s Kazeen Too Bright To Bovver, good in face, good shape, deep chest, level topline, good tailset, very well muscled, has great second thighs, coat of good colour, wave & texture, has certainly come into his own now, handled & moved very well, had best rearend in class;

2 BPD, Paterson’s Kellynack The Fantastic Fox, just 8 months old, pity he was in this class. Big black nose & small ears, square in body, good topline, good bone for age. Slightly loose in front but moved well for age;

3 Kenneally’s Loofahsa Makuna Matata.

LD (3)

1 CC, Bott’s Whitevale Prince Of Thieves, lovely head, strong muzzle, beautiful pigmentation, small ears, fantastic neck going into good shoulders. Sometimes looks as if his topline isn’t level when stood but is spot on when handled (perhaps presentation doesn’t help). Strong, well angulated rearend, moved the best of the dogs today, was very free flowing, lovely to watch;

2 Connaughton’s Bacanti Beach Bunny, lovely for size, good square dog, good head, dark eye, small ears, compact body, deep chest, level topline, good backend, coat of good texture & colour. Not as free on the move as 1;

3 Boulton’s Dayshaun Sparkler for Diddidumkins.

OD (4,1a)

1 RCC, Johnson’s Ch Fantasa Blonde Fagin, stood foursquare, masculine head, good pigmentation, neat ears, good neck going into good shoulders & has straight front, good for body, level topline, good ribcage, deep chest, beautifully muscled, strong backend, carrying a lovely soft, golden coat, best mover in this class, pushed hard in the challenge;

2 Morrey’s Tobamorrey Ain’t He A Tyke, one I have judged before & liked very much, masculine in head with big black nose, good ears, straight front & level topline, good tailset. Coat could have been softer & would have liked more of it. Seemed to have lost his ‘happy go lucky air’ here & didn’t have the free flowing movement that I would have liked;

3 Bristow’s Lilwaukee Leroy Brown for Avard.

MPB (2)

1 BP, Morrey’s Tobamorrey Aint I Precious, loved this little girl, full of character, gave her handler the run around! Only 6½ months old, very pretty face, neat ears, good mouth, beautifully square body, deep chest for one so young, carries a lovely soft coat with good colour, once she settled she moved well, held topline both on the move & standing;

2 Taylor’s Amberstar Eight Days A Week, nice head, medium ears, straight front & level topline. Longer in the coupling than 1. Straight front, well let down hocks, very good topline. Moving close behind. Lovely textured coat with plenty of colour.

PB (1) A.

JB (11)

1 Hammond & Evan’s Calvance Toppa Totty, all my placings in this class were well deserved but this girl oozed Wheaten, lovely level planes on her head, dark pigmentation & lovely teeth, good body with plenty of bone, deep chest, level topline, lovely angulation. Carrying a beautiful coat with plenty of colour & wave. Moved with confidence, one to watch out for in the future;

2 Bristow’s Kellynack Viva La Passione for Avard, 3 months older than 1, slightly taller but well proportioned, good in head, dark pigmentation, nice neck & shoulders, level topline, good tailset, good for body, deep chest with a good rearend, coat colour just coming back, moved & handled well;

3 Thoburn’s Emalot Jilly Jitterbug to Northridge.

PGB (12)

This class was, I thought, the best of the day with so many good youngsters entered. It augers well for the future.

1 RCC, Boulton’s Denzilly Topsy Turvy for Diddidumkins, lovely youngster, beautifully presented, will be interested to see how she fares in the future. Beat her sister for RCC they are two very good bitches but thought this one was slightly more mature. Very feminine with a good head not coarse in any way, flat skull, strong muzzle, nice expression, good teeth & pigmentation, good for body, level topline, well muscled, moved & handled very well;

2 Boak’s Bacanti Busy Bee, lovely for type, will appeal to many, has a good head, neat ears. Not the length of neck of 1. Good body with level topline, tail spot on, strong hindquarters with lovely angulation, not exaggerated in anyway, moved well but not with quite the bounce of 1;

3 Hammond & Evan’s Calvance Boodles.

LB (9,3)

Once again a lovely class with many to choose from.

1 CC & BOB, Hanna’s Kinelan Quietly Confident, very square young lady, beautiful feminine head, great pigmentation, flat skull, straight front & deep in chest, so well muscled with well let down hocks, good backend, all this covered with a soft, silky coat. Moved with great purpose & flow, never stopped showing. Well deserved her BOB;

2 Dowy’s Denzilly Toot Sweet, a lot of the comments of 1 stand for this bitch. Needs to mature. Lovely head, big teeth, great neck, level topline, deep chest, well let down hocks, handled very well. Looked a little unbalanced against 1;

3 Boak’s Bacanti Ballintubber.

OB (5,1)

1 Webster’s Kazeen To Hot To Rock, lovely feminine bitch, has strong muzzle & foreface without losing her pretty looks, good mouth, medium ears, nice flat skull, deep chest, level topline & good tailset, carrying a very nice coat, well muscled, moved well;

2 Hanna’s Ch Kinealan Cuchylaene, bigger all round than 1. Very good pigmentation, good topline, lovely straight front, well let down hocks, beautiful silky coat, handled very well;

3 Noble’s Ch Pipajam Gold Leaf. Breeder Dowdy, four lovely dogs very well matched, true Wheaten type, moved & handled well.
