SOFT COATED WHEATEN CRUFTS 11 Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Judge(s): MRS P V CHAPMAN SOFT COATED WHEATEN TERRIER My thanks to the exhibitors for a super entry, both in quality and numerically. Because of the large numbers, many dogs who would win on other occasions had to go cardless. Type, size, coat colour and texture have become more uniform, presenting a more cohesive picture of the breed. There were fewer very light coats, but mouths and low tail sets continue to be problematical, as do upright shoulders and poor front movement. Very few displayed the reach in front and drive from behind which should be typical. Some of the bitches were overweight, and some had very 'muddy' coats. My thanks to my two efficient stewards who kept things on the boil, allowing me to finish on time. My final line up of Best Dog, Best Bitch and Best Puppy made a pleasing picture. VD (4,2) 1 Tanner's Ch Kariskiye Kyanite Kismet. An impressive 10-year-old. Fit and muscular, with good coat, handsome head, correct bite. Good mover with reach and drive - one of the few showing correct movement today. 2 Johnson's Ch Fantasa Blonde Fagin ShCM. Another very fit 10-year-old with pleasing head and nice coat. Movement not as sure as 1, but very close decision. Two good representatives of breed type. SpPD (5) 1 Pascoe's Middlebury Shooting Star (10 months). Nice head, with flat skull, correct bite and dark pigmentation. Nice flowing coat, and good bone and substance for age. Level topline, good tailset, moved OK. 2 Wright's Kariskiye Horrid Henry (10 months). Similar type to 1. but lower tailset and less settled on move. Nice outline and head, good coat colour and texture. 3 Maleary's Saffini Teenage Sensation (9 months). Not as forward as above, needs more time to mature. Good conformation throughout, nice coat and colour. A trio of lovely pups. SpJD (4, ) 1 O'Hare's Emalot Mister Happy (14 months). Very attractive, well-balanced masculine dog with good coat colour. Nice head, good reach of neck, straight front. Moved well. Has great ring presence and should do well in future. 2 Walklin's Kellynack Zoom Zoom (17 months). Another very masculine youngster, standing four-square. Level topline, good tailset, well angulated, moved well with drive. Coat colour paler than 1. 3 Hannifer's Kariskiye Handsome Henry (10 months). Nice type but longer coupled than above. Somewhat reluctant on the move, but is only a baby and needs time to mature. YD (2,1) 1 Simpson's Loofahsa Bumble Bee. 18 months old and still rather at the loose and gangly stage. Coat rather pale, and would not settle. He is a bit of a handful and needs more ring training. Moved OK behind, but rather close in front. Needs time to mature. PGD (11,2) 1 Hunter's Amaricy Hairy Hell Raiser. Good size, nice type. Pleasing head with correct bite and good pigmentation. Good reach of neck, straight front, good spring of rib, level topline and good tailset. Moved well, coming and going - one of the better movers today. 2 Bailey's Amberstar Please Mr Postman. Stood foursquare with level topline and good tailset. Typical head with flat skull, dark eye, kind expression. Longer-coupled than 1 and not as sound on the move. 3 Carter's Chloeanco Hunni Dream.
