SOFT COATED WHEATEN BORDER UNION 09 Judge(s) MR ROGER WRIGHT DCC WHILIZIAS HEAD OR TAIL (MRS E & MR R G ROSS) Soft-coated Wheaten Terriers A good entry. A more difficult breed to judge than most because of the variety of types, their intermixtures & grooming styles. However, though I have preferences – combined, overall qualities have to take precedent. As ever, the entry was of mixed quality & type with more available choice in bitches. PD (3) 1 Hobson’s Abiqua Wild Knight Romance, nice sort, decent head, excellent forehand, rib & topline, well made quarters, of a coat which could improve, moved & showed well; 2 Fletcher’s Keridown Shaken Not Stirred, nice baby, good head, shape & quarters. Needs time for the middlepiece. Sound; 3 Paterson’s Kellynack The Fantastic Fox. JD (2) 1 Clarke’s Loofahsa Scaramouche, upstanding & masculine, good head properties, excels through front & forehand, square & well set on with decent quarters, moved & showed very well; 2 Whitehead’s Shanghai Shoggoth, moderate sort, OK head, good front. Fails in shoulder. Low set, OK coat & quarters. PGD (1) 1 Taylor’s Keridown Goodness Gracious, good quality, type & balance, good balance to head, excellent overall forehand, good topline with depth to rib & muscle to thigh & gaskin, sound but a touch close in hind. Promising. LD (2) 1 Dunhill’s Fantasa Blonde Kaos, smart & upstanding with much quality, well handled & presented with good coat & colour, sound & showy but close in hind which got closer in the challenge & cost him dear; 2 Taylor’s Keridown For Art’s Sake, nice sort but slightly short headed & over-short bodied which threw him out of balance. Excellent muscletone, sound & showy but crabbing a little & very close in hind. OD (7,1) 1 Barrett’s Ch Loofahsa Teenage Dirtbag, of good quality all through, nice make, shape & balance, good size, coat & colour, muscletone, looks the part, moved & showed. CC; 2 Morrey’s Tobymorrey Ain’t He A Tyke, close up, typy, in good coat & colour. Not reaching as well as 1; 3 Satherley’s Tobamorrey Aint Half Hot Mom. PB (4) 1 Moran’s Abiqua Wild In A Satin Sash, nicely balanced, good head & expression, quality front & fore, good topline, body with well defined quarters, good colour, moved & showed well. BP; 2 Morrey’s Tobymorrey Aint I Precious, close up, good head & expression, decent forehand, flow & topline, moved soundly; 3 Satherley’s Tobamorrey Sitting Pretty at Silkcroft. JB (1) 1 Ewing’s Loofahsa Amareuse, moderate quality, OK head, eye & ear, straight front, upright shoulder making over-long, low set, good quarters. NB (1) 1 Paterson’s Kellynack Viva La Luna, nice sort. A little plain in head which may improve. Lovely forehand, rib & topline, quarters to strengthen, good coat & colour, low set, sound. PGB (7,2a) 1 Tilley’s Starzak Solid Gold Ez Action, excellent quality, type & balance though very raw. Feminine, upstanding, lovely head, cracking forehand, good neck & head carriage, topline & muscling to quarters, excellent natural coat, A1 on the move if a little wayward at times. Very promising; 2 Johnson’s Garsayno Gold Echo, nice sort, balanced head but ear carriage could improve. Good forehand, ribbing & topline (just looks a touch long just now), good coat & colour, sound though a touch close in hind; 3 Pascoe’s Middlebury Silver Lady. LB (9,2) 1 Ross’ Whilizias Head Or Tail, lovely, typical & balanced all through, A1 head & expression, excellent forehand, neck & topline with good depth to rib, good quarters, excellent natural coat & colour, moved & showing A1, should go on from here. RCC; 2 Dowdy’s Denzilly Toot Sweet, good sort, different type & coat to 1, excellent front & forehand. Needs to fill in rib. Well presented, moved & showed well; 3 Dunhill’s Fantasa Blonde Krackers. OB (6) 1 Tilley’s Ch Snowmeadow Hetti Hopscotch at Starzak, I judged her for the first time in 2004 & she won Limit, the second time in 2006 I gave her 2nd in Open & thought she was overweight & a little soft in condition, the third time she was placed in the group earlier this year when I thought she was just right & the finished article. She has always had quality, type & balance, had a good natural coat & colour, always moved well & shown herself off – she just needed to be right on the day which she was. A quality dog in every respect. CC & BOB; 2 Howes’ Ch Emalot English Rose, close up & a very nice sort. Not the colour of 1& not so positive in hind. Balanced & smart, well handled; 3 Wright’s Ch Abbeymead Hootenanny. ROGER WRIGHT
