CRUFTS 2016

SOFT COATED WHEATEN TERRIERS - JUDGE: SANDY TANNER

A big thank you to everyone for my entry and accepting my decisions with good grace. Some classes were filled with quality exhibits making my final awards a challenge – I had a truly memorable day. It is a real shame that poor dentition was still prevalent in some which affected the placings of some otherwise nice dogs today.

Veteran Dog (1)
1st Van Merrienboer Int/Lux/Dutch/Belg Ch Dogside’s El Arnold. 8 year old male, stood alone but well balanced and in fine form. Good bite and lovely pigment. Soft well coloured coat. Moved out well around the ring.

Puppy Dog (1)
1st Jones Wheaten Rebel’s Voice of Vision for Silverluka. At 10 months this young man shows promise. Loved his head complete with small ears. Super coat in texture and colour. Nice outline but topline still needs to settle. Moved out well in profile.

Junior Dog (5)
1st Williams Celtannia Extra Suave. This young man caught my eye as he entered the ring, full of confidence at just over 12 months of age. Nice in profile with everything where it should be, finished off with a masculine head. Mature coat, nice furnishings. Moved out very well to take the RCC in a strong challenge.

2nd Roberts Loofahsa Andiamo. Slightly longer cast and coat not so mature as my winner but still lots to like. Sound frame, moving well. Liked his head and really appreciated his small ears.

3rd Pascoes Calvenace My Sweet Lord for Middlebury. Another just out of puppy. Balanced and square, coat more mature than my second place but this young man was more unsettled standing and on the move making it difficult to assess – his just needs time.

Res McFerrans Kirktonhill Cara Dils.

VHC Wards Saffini For You To Love

Yearling Dog (5)
Splitting hairs between these first 2 but very different types.

1st Bristows Denzilly Sweet Destiny for Avard. Super young man, compact and well made. Good breed attributes, dark eyes and pigment. Showed his personality on the move. I would prefer him to carry his tail a little higher over his back but set is spot on. Won this class on coat maturity.

2nd Another showing lots of promise. Nice outlook, super neck and shoulders. Moved with purpose. He will have his day.

3rd Blandfords Janeyjimjams Joshua. Slightly longer cast but a nice exhibit. Masculine head and mature coat. A little unsettled on the move, had a tendency to gamble round the ring which improved when he slowed a little.

Res Morts Regalred Russian Prince.

VHC Hammond & Evans Calvenace Thor.

Post Graduate Dog (8)
1st Mackenzies Kirktonhill Rumour Has It. Typical young male. Standing four square with strong head furnishings. Balanced all round. Movement okay. His coat maturity tipped this class win for him.

2nd Johnsons Kinaelan Halsey. Slightly lighter in frame but lots to like. Lovely silky coat, masculine head and good pigment. Would prefer to see a little more length of skirt as the shorter version gives the illusion of him being longer cast than he is.

3rd Adams Saffini Crazy For You. Another dog with very good colour from this kennel. Balanced in outlook and showing promise but a little unsettled on the day. Didn’t feel he gave his best which lost him the edge today.

Res Moles & Williams Wheaten Goblins Eros for Celtannia (imp).

VHC Calvert & Naylors Amaricy Bullet Proof.

Limit Dog (8, 1 abs)
1st Croxford & Dowdys Hajo V Diekhof (imp Ger). This young man is a real showman, presentation is 1st class but be careful not to over style. Super outline and moved with long low strides in profile which tipped this class in his favour. Coat soft, silky and well coloured.

2nd Revis Tiareko Niflheim’s Wizard. Very unlucky to meet my winner on the day. I still love his masculinity and type and coat maturing nicely but movement not suite so positive today.

3rd McIntyres Thistlebe Mr Bojangles. Not quite as outgoing as my higher placings but gave a good account of himself. Presented a nice outline.

Res Bradys Macfinn Magneto.

VHC House Glendowan Tarquol.

Open Dog (12, 2 bs)
1st Williams Snowmeadow Peregrine Piper. This young man is a real star in the making - he exudes breed type. I remember penalising him for coat immaturity when I judged him last but my oh my the quality is now in abundance and presented to perfection. Looked super on the stand and moved out with drive and precision. Super head and such neat ears. Did exceptionally well to head up this very strong class. Very pleased to award him his first CC.

2nd. Thoburns Northridge Gotan Go. Another male that has matured very well and I have admired from the ringside. Strong masculine outlook and well appointed head. Coat soft and of good colour. Moving well fore and aft. Gave a good account of himself.

3rd Boasts Denzilly Tickle Me Elmo. The third of these boys making a very worthy trio. Many similarities in size, shape and balance and lots to like. Movement true when moving away but had a slight tendency to crab on the return which spoilt the flow. A real shame but made the difference in such strong competition.

Res Satherleys Ch/Int/Swe/It Ch Modny Style Loverboy at Seamrog (imp Rus).

VHC Hannas Kinaelan Finlandia Finnian.

Veteran Bitch (6)
What a super class of young ladies!

1st Tilley’s Starzak Solid Gold EZ Action. JW ShCM. Hard to believe this young lady is a veteran. Presented to perfection in very good condition. Still exhibiting very sound movement from every angle and as always enjoying her day.

2nd Griffiths Wintrypark Miss Goodnight with Manawyddan. This young lady very much belies her age. Slightly more petite with a very sweet head. Loved her coat oozing soft, silky curls. Moved around the ring with purpose.

3rd Bain’s Ch Merriwell Midnite Melody. Presented a nice profile, well balanced body, pretty head and moved okay but not really enjoying her day today.

Res Rogers Ch Kizzahla Katinka ShCM.

VHC Bristows Kellynack Viva La Passione for Avard.

Puppy Bitch (3)
1st Satherleys Silkcroft Auroras Encore. What a sweet and adorable baby girl. So pretty and delicate but very well made. Balanced outline and soft, well coloured coat. Would like to see her grow on a touch more but she has time. Showed confidence on the move. Had an initial wobble in the challenge for BP but settled quickly to gain the well deserved BPIB. She will have a bright future.

2nd Griffiths Manawyddan On The Move. Another nice baby. More mature in outlook. Balanced head and pretty coat. Rear movement just a little untidy today.

3rd Courts Barleythrift Megisto. Still has a lot of maturing to do compared to my higher placings but this is not untypical of the Irish coat. Nice size but a few extra puppy pounds affected movement today which was hard to assess.

Junior Bitch (9)
1st Johnstones Loffahsa Fiamma Rouxboos. Super profile, stood four square. Coat soft and silky, colour still needing to come a little but absolutely fine for one so young. Gave a good account of herself on the move.

2nd Holdings Kirktonhill Cara Alainn. Close up decision lots to like and coat of better colour but not so confident in outlook. Moved well.

3rd Celtannia Extra Confident at Kinaelan. Litter sister to my DRCC winner. Nicely made with feminine head and delicate ears. Moved out well. Still needs a few furnishings which will complete the picture.

Res Van Merrienboer Chaykyba Faith Love and Believe Lux Youth Ch.

VHC Rogers Kizzahla Kiss and Tell.

Yearling Bitch (8)
Lovely class of youngsters.

1st Satherleys Silkcroft Sky Full of Stars. What a beautiful young lady that owned the ring as soon as she arrived. Prettiest of heads with good pigment and well set ears. Nicely boned and perfect for size. Strong front with good angles. Coat super soft, with a sheen you don’t always see. Moved out with drive and style. Her mum won the OB class and I can see where she gets her attributes from. She worked her socks off for her young handler and in the challenge I kept on being drawn to her – I couldn’t deny her the CC & BOB on the day. She will have a bright future.

2nd Connors Regalred Russian Romance. Another very well made young lady just larger all round. Presented a very nice square outline. Liked her head and movement was good. Well presented but I would like to see more coat for preference.

3rd Dunhills Fantasa Blonde Queen Bee. Petite and feminine. Moved out with drive clearly at one with her handler. Good coat colour falling in loose waves but I felt the abundance covering the neck and shawl area made her look a little heavy in these areas.

Res Lui Hobel Turn Around.

VHC Bradys Macfinn Ororo Munroe.

Post Graduate Bitch (11, 3 abs)
1st Shrives Emalot Santa Maria. Lovely young lady with everything in the right place. Pretty balanced head, square with tail on top. Super coat in all areas, presented very well. Nothing exaggerated – moved out well in the challenge to secure the RCC from a strong line up.

2nd Kellynack Joie De Vivre. I liked her as a puppy and she didn’t disappoint today. Pretty young lady, balanced all round, coat still need to mature a little and still lacks a little confidence in the ring which affected her placing today.

3rd Lui Thistlebe Them There Eyes at Eblanahalls. Slightly larger all round but gave a very good account of herself today. Moved out with drive. Very pleasing coat and head.

Res Thoburns Northridge Who Are You.

VHC Hughlocks Janeyjimjams Jolene.

Limit Bitch (9)
1st Herberts Calvenace She’s The One at Julibidd. Solidly made pretty young lady. Traditional in outlook, nicely presented and moved well fore and aft. A good honest Wheaten with no exaggeration.

2nd Wardles Saffini One And Only. Close up decision. Lots to like, very well muscled, darker coat colour. Not quite the precision of movement on this occasion. These two will change places many times.

3rd Williams Kinaelan Cachique at Celtannia. Slightly longer cast than my first two winners. Coat in abundance and full of loose waves. Dam of my RDCC winner, she has shared many of her good qualities. Gave a good account of herself. Unlucky to meet 1 and 2 on the day.

Res Busby Calvenace Minnie HaHa at Zakby.

VHC Manawyddan Brigid.

Open Bitch (11, 1 abs)
1st Satherleys Ch Silkcroft Colour of Magic. Not sure how many more positives I can say about this young lady – she is one of my favourites and a very worthy champion. Spot on in many aspects today but just looked a little heavy in the challenge and coat not quite in tip top form. Moved out with purpose and drive. Beaten by her very talented daughter on the day.

2nd Van Merrienboer Lux/Int/Dutch Ch Aranka of Roban’s Home. Nice on the stand and move. Sweet head. Lovely neck and soft coat of good colour. Moved out well.

3rd Munns Snowleadow Peggy Phurrari JW. Another favourite of mine, sister to my DCC winner and so many similarities in make-up and style. Lovely profile with everything in proportion. Just lacking coat today after maternal duties.

Res Wardles Saffini Yours Truly.

VHC Dowdy’s Ch Denzilly Sweet Rebel.

Good Citizen Bitch (4)
1st Holdings Kirktonhill Cara Alainn.

2nd Wassalls Emalot Little Miss Magic. At 6 years this young lady shows a lot of maturity, particularly in the coat department. Balanced head, strong neck, level topline. Moved well.

3rd Busbys Calvenace Killer Queen at Zakby. Slightly smaller in frame and size.

Res Jefferies Cuddly Keira.
