SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE SKC AUGUST 15
My thanks to the SKC for the invitation to judge at this show, and for their hospitality. My appreciation also to the exhibitors for such a good entry for me to assess. I was generally pleased with the dogs I judged on the day, but I was a little disappointed with the movement of several of the exhibits, and this affected some of the final placings.
Junior Dog or Bitch (6:1abs)
1 McFerran’s Kirktonhill Cara Dilis. A lovely 7mth old youngster. Overall impression is of a balanced, compact outline, with a lovely colour to his coat of good texture. Head of good proportions; good eye colour and pigment. Pleasing front assembly, with sufficient length of neck into a good lay of shoulder. Level topline, which he held on the move, and good tailset. Liked his rear angulation. Moved well, once he had settled. Give him time to mature and I am sure he will have a bright future in the ring. Pleased to award him BP.
2 Francis’ Daisymaes Fleurie With Sawheaten. A pretty young bitch with a very feminine head. Lovely eye colour and pigment, and neat ears. Another with a good, balanced outline. Good length of neck flowing into nice shoulder. Level topline and ok tailset. Good rear angulation. Moved ok, but I could see she was not quite settled today.
3 Brown’s Carkbark Brown Eyed Girl.
Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (5:1abs)
1 Lui’s Thistlebe Them There Eyes. A good sized, pretty bitch, with a coat of good texture. Another with a very feminine head. Good mouth with lovely bite. Good length of neck into good lay of shoulder. Good deep chest and spring of rib. Level topline and ok tailset. Would have preferred a little more bend of stifle. Handled well to keep her moving at her best in this class.
2 Johnson’s Garsayno Gold Julia. Another well balanced, nicely sized bitch, carrying somewhat more coat than 1, but still of good texture and colour. Nicely proportioned head, good eye colour and lovely earset. Nice straight front. Good shoulder placement. Level topline and good tailset. Preferred her rear angulation to 1, but felt she did not move quite as well as 1 today.
3 Mackenzie’s Kirktonhill Rumour Has It.
Open Dog or Bitch (8:2abs)
1 MacGregor’s Kirktonhill What I Believe. A pleasing, compact and feminine bitch, who showed the best movement on the day with plenty of positivity, as well as reach and drive. Coat of correct colour and texture. A pretty head, with a nice mouth, good pigmentation and eye colour, and small neat ears. Good straight front, good shoulder placement and good spring of rib. Topline ok. Good tailset and nicely angulated rear. Pleased to award her BOB.
2 Johnson’s Garsayno Gold Imp. Nice to see this young lady back in the ring again. Slightly larger bitch than 1, but still in balance. Lovely coat texture and good colour. Feminine head of good proportion. Nice mouth. Good length of neck and nice shoulder placement. Good spring of rib. Strong level topline, which she held on the move, and good tailset. Nice rear angulation. Movement ok, but I would have preferred to see a little more reach and drive.
3 Lui’s Thistlebe Them There Eyes.
