Judge Ken Francis (Sawheaten)
I would first like to convey my thanks to the Committee for this long awaited appointment which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks also to the show team who arranged for us to be outside therefore taking advantage of the lovely weather, I believe we all appreciated being able to see the sun on beautiful wheaten coats and witness the dogs making good use of the space. The atmosphere was friendly, placings were sportingly accepted, it was nice to hear generous applause, and I hope this show continues to be as well supported in the future. My general observation is that I was pleased with the quality of the exhibits, coats, movement and tail sets being good but some could have had a darker eye which is so essential for that Wheaten expression.
Veteran Dog (1)
1) Glew’s Wentloog Mozambique at Braelochyen. Proportionate dog with a lovely soft Irish coat. Good mouth and pigment with a dark eye. Reasonable angulation produced steady movement.
Puppy Dog (1) (1a)
Junior Dog (3) (1a)
1) Roberts’ Pippajam Nihel. Young dog yet to mature in coat and body. He has a flat skull that would be enhanced with judicious trimming, nice dark eye. Correct angulation and when settled moved with reach and drive.
2) Mackenzie’s Kirktonhill Rumour Has It. Similar comments to 1 apply, masculine head, good earset, would prefer a slightly darker eye.
Yearling, Maiden, Novice. No entries.
Graduate Dog (2)
1) Mann’s Starcadia Olympic Goldnson. Squarer shaped dog, with soft wheaten coat, masculine head with flat skull and dark eye, would prefer a tad more neck. Covered the ground with reach and drive.
2) McIntyre’s Thistlebe Mr Bojangles. Longer cast than 1, decent coat, strong head and good pigment, would prefer a darker eye, moved well.
Special Beginners (2)
1) Roberts’ Pippajam Nihel.
2) McIntyre’s Thistlebe Mr Bojangles.
Limit Dog (4) (1a)
1) Howes’ Daisymaes Enforcer. Unexaggerated dog with excellent proportions, soft wheaten coat tidied to enhance shape. Strong head, proportionate ear size. Dark eye, pigment and punishing bite, lovely reach of neck leading into laid back shoulders and level topline which he held on the move. Good tailset and angulation. Moved with reach and drive when covering the ring. In the challenge his ring presence assured him Best Dog and ultimately Best in Show.
2) Wright’s Kariskye Horrid Henry for Abbeymead. Slightly longer cast than 1. Soft wheaten coat with waves, strong head, good bite. Moved smoothly but preferred the animation of 1.
3) Mann’s Starcadia Olympic Goldnson.
Open Dog (4)
1) Howes’ Daisymaes Desmond Decker. Another proportionate dog of good type, soft wheaten coat. Strong masculine head, flat skull, punishing bite. Good reach of neck into laid back shoulders. Straight front, nice angulation, moved with reach and drive. Reserve Best Dog.
2) Pascoe’s Middlebury Shooting Star. Masculine dog, up to size but all in proportion, lovely wheaten coat. Strong head, flat skull, good bite. Steady on the move but would have preferred more drive.
3) Matti & Omitogun’s Frontline Mr Feelgood. Stylish dog with a good jacket, well pigmented with a super bite. Nice to see small ears. Moved well but I would just prefer a bit more body on him.
Veteran Bitch (9) (2a)
What a super class, they all deserved a rosette - a credit to the breed and owners.
1) Dowdy’s Ch. Denzilly Toot Sweet. ShCM. A 7 year old bitch which I have always admired. Stylish with a soft wavy wheaten coat. Proportionate in build, good reach of neck, dark eye, and good pigment. Balanced on the move and had reach and drive. Straight front, good rear angulation. Best Veteran In Show.
2) Brown’s Chymidas Linel Stardancer at Carkbark. Proportionate bitch, 8 years old, soft wheaten coat. Good pigment, eye and reach of neck. Moved with reach and drive just preferred the angulation of 1.
3) Tilley’s Snowmeadow Hetti Hopscotch. Slightly longer cast bitch, good head, neck and angulation. This senior lady is 13 years old but her movement belied her age, a credit to her owner.
Puppy Bitch (1)
1) Johnson’s Garsayno Gold Julia. 9 month old feminine puppy with a good shape. Soft wheaten coat developing nicely. Dark eye and pigment, lovely teeth, neck arching into laid back shoulders, level topline which she maintained on the move. One to watch. Best Puppy in Show.
Junior Bitch (4) (2a)
1) Macgregor’s Kirktonhill What I Believe. Short coupled bitch with a soft wheaten coat that is developing a nice wave. Unexaggerated head with a good bite and pigment, but would prefer a darker eye. Balanced on the move, level topline. Benefitted from being well handled on a loose lead.
2) Lui’s Thistlebe Them There Eyes. Similar comments to 1 apply. Good feminine head would prefer a smaller ear, soft coat, moved freely.
Yearling Bitch (1)
1) Macgregor’s Kirktonhill What I Believe.
Maiden Bitch. No entries.
Novice Bitch (2)
1) Stevens’ Starcadia Olympic Diva. Feminine bitch, nice shape, coat of soft wheaten colour and wave. Flat skull, good bite, reasonable reach of neck, level topline, and short coupled. Moved and handled well.
2) Switzer’s Starcadia Ocean Destiny. Similar comments to 1 apply but not the animation of 1 would have preferred a bit more tidying of her coat to show off her attributes.
Graduate Bitch (5)
1) Pattinson’s Braelochyen Cora Sundrop. Took my eye on entering the ring, up to size, Irish bitch whose coat flowed in loose waves which shone in the sunshine. Strong head with flat skull, large teeth, dark eye and excellent pigment. Graceful neck leading into good layback of shoulder. Straight front, level topline held on the move which was animated with reach and drive.
2) Stevens’ Starcadia Olympic Diva.
3) Wright’s Kariskye Tip Top Too Ticky to Abbeymead. Longer cast with soft wheaten coat. Good pigment, would have liked more animation on the move.
Special Beginners Bitch (3)
1) McFerran’s Kirktonhill Look No Further. Well presented with a soft coat, feminine head with good bite, nice reach of neck. Straight front, short coupled, moved with reach and drive.
2) Lui’s Thistlebe Them There Eyes.
3) McIntyre’s Keridown Thistlebe Good. Up to size bitch, longer cast. Coat soft but of a paler colour.
Limit Bitch (6)
1) Pattinson’s Braelochyen Cora Sundrop.
2) Jones’ Zaraslake Pumpkin At Silverluka. All in proportion with a soft wheaten coat with a good wave. Feminine head with a flat skull, dark eye. Good bite. Straight front, short coupled, moved with reach and drive but preferred the ring presence of 1.
3) McIntyre’s Keridown Thistlebe Good.
Open Bitch (7)
A class I enjoyed immensely with some super exhibits.
1) Dowdy’s Ch. Denzilly Sweet Rebel. Smaller packaged bitch full of quality. Coat soft and of deep wheaten colour. Feminine head, flat skull, dark eye, good bite. Long reach of neck into laid back shoulders. Straight front and excellent angulation. Covered the ground with effortless reach and drive. Best Bitch, Reserve Best of Breed and Best Opposite Sex.
2) Clarke’s Ch. Calvenace Fat Bottomed Girl for Flaxela JW ShCM. Correct sized bitch. Lovely soft wheaten coat, paler than 1, similar comments to apply. Lots to like about this girl but on the day preferred the ring presence of 1. Reserve Best Bitch.
3) Pattinson’s Braelochyen Cora Sundrop.
Brace (3) (1a)
1) Clarke. Both exhibits fitted the eye and had correct wheaten coats, moved well together and complemented each other.
2) Charleton. Both alike but size difference meant I preferred 1. Both had good coats and moved steadily.
Junior Handling
6-11 years (0)
12-16 years (1)
1) Jennifer MacKenzie. Confident handler who presented her dog well. Unobtrusive and showed her dog to advantage with smooth lines and tight turns. Must remember to pay attention to the position of the judge, was receptive to my advice and feedback which I gave after the judging. Overall very well done. Best Junior Handler.
