There were a few nice ‘up and coming’ youngsters which were a pleasant find, so hope they continue to develop and shine. Pigment and eye colour was decent, ears and ear carriage too. Some lighter nails than ideal. Overall, I was pleased with the coat quality (bar some condition, which can be helped with more regularly bathing and combing) too. Temperaments on the day were good overall, however I would like to have seen more ‘happy go lucky’ and ‘tail up’ attitudes in the ring. Sadly, some could not hold themselves with their tails up in a free stack when asked. There is a current trend of sloping toplines appearing, however and wheatens should very much have a ‘spirit level’ topline, it should never slope downwards to the tail, to any extent. Tailsets need to improve, as they should be highly set, straight with the base of the tail being held vertically or pointing slightly forward, with butt behind the tail (and not just coat!), and naturally so (without the handler pushing it up). I would class quite a few as low set with the tail base coming out near to the butt. There is now a very much a clear lack of good extension and drive in the breed. I counted only a handful of exhibits who could truly do this. Short stepping and paddling with lift from the elbow and not from the shoulder, is now quite a common trend sadly. Clear and accurate movement on the down and back is now in the minority also. SBD/B (1,0) 1 Amel-Azizpour Crofftysofty Hay Jude 16 months old neatly sized male, with a good coat for age. Well sized ear and a good bite. Would prefer a little more forward ground covering movement, this could improve if the handler moved him slightly faster on the go around. JD (2,0) 1 Howell Denzilly Mr Trickster (A.I.) 18 month nicely balanced male, with leg under him. Lovely small, well-placed ears and nice head planes. He holds a nice outline on the move and is nicely proportioned. 2 Amel-Azizpour Crofftysofty Hay Jude PGD (2,0) 1 Brooks Loofahsa King Of The Pippins (A.I.) Lovely strong head on this boy with lovely expression. Excellent temperament. Coat of good colour and quality. Nice tailset. Sound and strong moving in his side gait. 2 Amel-Azizpour Crofftysofty Hay Jude LD (2, 1) 1 Brooks Loofahsa King Of The Pippins (A.I.) OD (4,0) 1 Clarke & Clarke Ch Flaxela Perfect Storm (A.I.) A male in his prime at 4 years of age. Nicely up on leg, in good coat condition and a sound mover on the down and back. Good topline into tailset. Handsome and proud head with a good bite. He is a great show man too. DCC and BOB 2 Clarke & Clarke Flaxela Illuminati (A.I.) JW Similar comments apply to this male as number 1. A younger 3-year-old male, but also nicely up on leg. Nice head and ear carriage on him. He is slightly longer in the back than number 1 and not so together yet on the go around. 3 Grimes-Watson & Watson, Janeyjimjams Jem Devlin VD (2,0) 1 Dowdy & Dowdy Ch Greentree Gold Mombo To Denzilly (Imp USA) At 8.5 years this dog always puts on a great show. He is a nice sized male. Has a good bite. Handsome expression with lovely sized ears and placement. Good tailset. Shown in excellent condition and coat quality. RCC and Best Veteran and Veteran Group 2. 2 Williams & Williams Flaxela Living Legend Of Gwendonydd Coming up to 9 years old age, this boy is strong and handsome male. He is a taller and slightly longer backed male than 1st, and he covers the ground well. Nice topline into a lovely tailset. Great temperament. PB (2,0) 1 Grimes-Watson & Watson Keevasdream Purple Bliss For Spudler 10 months Nice for size and feminine. Good mouth. She has a happy disposition. Would prefer a little more extension and drive action on the move. 2 Davies Brynhir Betty Boop At just 6 months, she is also a nicely sized girl with good bone. Pretty coat and has great strength and muscle tone already through her body. First time out and enjoying her day. JB (2,0) 1 Mapson & Mapson Abiqua Wild Burlesque 15 months lovely sized girl. Very pretty expression and head. Lovely outline and shape and well balanced. Good bite, lovely tailset. Good side gait to her. 2 Evans, Hammond Calvenace So What (A.I.) 17month she is a little longer in back than 1. She is a great side gaiter and nice rear. Loved to see her proud head carriage on the move. PGB (2,0) 1 Munn & Munn Snowmeadow Treacle Toffee 2.5-year-old. She is nice for size. Has a good coat, a happy disposition, and a good mouth. She is a sound mover, although would like her to have been moved faster on the go around. She was not behaving her best for her handler at the critical time but was considered. 2 Grant Dannebriel Me And My Girl (A.I.) JW Another nice bitch at 2.5 years. Good coat, good mouth, nice tailset and sound mover. Close decision with number 1. Liked her and nicely presented. LB (6,0) A lovely class of girls. 1 Shrive & Shrive Clanhanna Reet Petite (A.I.) Nearly 3 years of age. This girl showed so well on the day. She has a lovely coat quality, and a fab side gaiter when she sets her mind to it. Good teeth and bite, and a nice temperament too. RCC 2 Williams & Williams Astra Fidelis Lola At Gwendonydd (Imp Pol) At 3.5 years old, she is a slightly larger bitch than 1. She has a super proud head carriage on the move and she covers the ground so well. Nice and level topline without any hint of a slope. 3 Hughlock & Hughlock Keevasdream Ballerina Blue JW OB (3,0) Another strong class of girls. 1 Howes & Howes Flaxela Flirtini At Daisymaes JW (A.I.) 3-year-old and feminine bitch with a pretty head piece. She has a lovely coat. Sound moving and ground covering. 2 Bradford & Hobson, Bonney Abiqua Wild Desert Whispers (imp USA) 4-year-old super feminine bitch, great show attitude, lovely outline and tailset. 3 Munn, Ch Snowmeadow Suzy Sixpence VB (2,1) 1 Wright Kariskiye Tip Top Too Ticky To Abbeymead Excellent condition at 11 years of age. I would like to thank the committee, stewards, and exhibitors on the day, such a wonderfully well-run show.
