SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE EAST OF ENGLAND 14

Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers

My thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge & give CCs in the breed for the first time & for the wonderful exhibitor entry. It was a pleasure & honour to go over your dogs. Thank you. As an observation I felt the dark hazel eye colour was in the minority with eyes being on the whole very dark – a hard blackish brown in colour, instead of the warm, melting brown that gives the Wheaten a softer expression.

PD (4)

1 Mansor & Gullick’s Jaeva Storm Trooper, attractive pup, nice size & shape. Pleasing skull. Square & compact outline. Level topline & tailset bang on top. Good angles front & rear. Well sprung ribs. Coat very profuse but soft with good colour. Moved out well once settled. Should have a bright future. BP;

2 Revis’ Tiareko Niflheim’s Wizard, slightly larger in size to 1. Coat OK. Enough neck into pleasing shoulder. Good spring to ribs. Moved well with good rear drive. Just preferred the overall balance of 1.

JD (2)

1 Howe’s Daisymaes Enforcer, attractive male, nicely presented to show off his assets. Beautiful silky coat with correct wave & texture. Up to size. Square outline, level topline held on move. Masculine skull, dark eye & rims. Good bite & large teeth. Strong hindquarters. Moved with reach & drive;

2 Salisbury’s Orliscwt Zebedee, Irish type with a real terrier outlook. Correct coat for age. Well bodied but a little big in ribs. Mouth Ok. Big teeth. Would like a bit more neck on him. Movement a little erratic as needs more ring training.

PGD (3)

1 Griffith’s Manawyddan I Got Rhythmn, nice Irish type with lovely terrier expression. Attractive earset & neat small ears. Nice lay of shoulders & neck, good ribs, firm loin. Enough bone. Pleasing head planes, good bite & teeth. Very fit & muscular. Correct coat for texture & sheen. Moved out well with ease with good reach & drive;

2 Hall’s Hobel Twelfth Of Never, another Irish type, up to size. Correct coat for age. Pleases in head & neck, tailset OK, just a tad long in the body. Slight tendency to lose topline on the move but otherwise moved ok, just not the fluidity & reach of 1.

LD (6)

1 Atyeo’s Kanjuley Cormac, lovely Irish type male with beautiful coat with correct texture. Liked his head proportions, & terrier expression. Dark eye, good ear carriage, enough neck. Nice shoulders & body. Enough bone. Masculine body & fit condition. Good ribs & loin. Strong hindquarters. Enough hind angulation. Positive mover with reach & drive. Handy size. RCC;

2 Thoburn’s Northridge Gotan Go, another pleasing male of correct size. Mouth OK. Nice skull proportions & used ears. Presents a pleasing overall outline, topline held on the move, nice angulation front & rear. Coat OK for age & hopefully will improve further with maturity. Straight mover fore & aft with enough reach & drive.

OD (5)

1 Fallon’s Ch Janeyjimjams Jenson, masculine male who ticks all the boxes without being overdone in any way. Square & balanced outline & balanced angles. Nice coat texture with lovely wheaten colour & wave. OK for size. Mouth OK. Oozes breed type without exaggeration. Masculine skull & strong muzzle without coarseness. Strong body & hindquarters, well boned. Good mover in profile & fore & aft. Great showman. CC & BOB;

2 Evans-Barry’s Ir Ch Hobel La Nollag, unfortunate to meet 1 today – on form. Irish dog with excellent coat & colour. Up to size. Moved well in profile, a little close behind on moving away. Strong headpiece & muzzle, good bite & teeth. Enough neck into well laid shoulders. Good eye & colour. Close decision with 1 & in challenge.

PB (3)

1 Phillips’ & Gullick’s Jaeva Just Peachy, lovely feminine little girl, nice size, pleasing square outline. Well placed ears. Good head, bite & large teeth. Lovely length to neck into well laid shoulders. Good rib & loin. Nice rear angulation. Heavier coat with soft texture & good colour. When settled moved straight fore & aft & good reach & drive. Just lacking a little ring confidence today in comparison to her brother for BP. I am sure she has a bright future in front of her;

2 Satherley’s Silkcroft World Explorer, feminine puppy with terrier expression. Square outline but a little high on the hindquarters at present. Pleasant coat for age. Nice head planes. Enough neck & bone. Slightly smaller body frame than 1. Moved OK, just a bit close behind.

JB (7)

1 Hammond & Evans’ Calvenace Kichi, 15 months heavy coated girl. Quite a bulky coat which should improve with age, but carries a nice colour for her age. Up to size but square & balanced, mature in body. Good ribs & strong loin. Liked her head & Wheaten expression. Good bite & teeth. Good layback & front assembly & hind angulation. Moves well when settled. Keep practising;

2 Hammond & Evans’ Calvenace Jacala, litter sister to 1. Nice sized bitch presenting a pleasing outline with good front angles similar to 1, but not quite the hind development of 1. Nice eye colour. Bite OK. Promises good movement but today a bit erratic & needs more ring training to help her produce her best.

PGB (9,1)

1 House’s Glendowen Kora, 22 months pretty Irish type bitch, with correct coat development for her age. Colour is now coming through on her head. Loved her size. Feminine but strong head, lovely neck & good use of ears setting a pleasing overall expression. Good mouth & strong eye rim pigment. Lovely straight front. Good ribs & body & strong loin. Covers the ground well. Easy, fluid mover fore & aft & on profile with correct low reaching stride. Would like to see her moved a tad faster to extend her stride. RCC;

2 Wardle’s Saffini One And Only, Bonny, feminine bitch, presenting a square & compact outline with typical breed expression. Carries a heavier coat but has correct fall & texture & good Wheaten hue. Not quite as strong in the head as 1 but good for body, strong topline stacked & on the move, good tailset. Honest mover going straight fore & aft with good rear drive.

LB (10)

So many lovely bitches in this class particularly 1 & 2. Just preferred 1 on size & correct coat texture & sheen & my further comments can apply to both 1 & 2. Both carry strong feminine heads, good mouths & good for eye colour. Both well bodied, strong in loin, well ribbed, deep chest, square & balanced outlines, well laid shoulders, good toplines & tailsets. Well developed lower thigh. Great terrier outlook & expression. Good earset & use of ears. Both moved freely with balance & fluidity & straight fore & aft. Both excellent examples of the breed. 1 Salisbury & Kehoe’s Killeshin Libaneire. CC;

2 Munns’ Snowmeadow Peggy Phurrari.

OB (9)

1 Evans-Barry’s Ir Ch Hobel I Love You, lovely terrier, compact & square. Up to size. Correct coat if a little pale, with good sheen. Good ears used well, strength in head without being course, good mouth. Lovely shoulders & length of neck, deep chest, good spring of rib, good hind angles. Moved well with good reach & drive;

2 Dowdy’s Ch Denzilly Sweet Rebel, smaller, feminine bitch but all there & oozes quality & breed type. Compact balanced body proportions, good angles hind & fore, enough neck, nice topline & tailset, straight front, strong hocks. Good mouth & correct eye colour. Terrier expression. Honest, steady balanced mover. Nothing showy but does the job. Pleases in coat, good texture & colour.
