SOFT COATED WHEATEN DRIFFIELD 19 Judge: Mrs S J Tanner BEST OF BREED : 3682 DOWDY, Ms J I & DOWDY Mr G J Ch Greentree Gold Mombo To Denzilly (Imp) SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE DRIFFIELD 19 A thoroughly enjoyable day, the weather was kind and a big thank you to the stewards for keeping things ticking over in the ring and the exhibitors for their entries. I was very lucky to be presented with a plethora of good exhibits, making some decisions very difficult. Mouths (as always) need monitoring and there were a few plush and grey coats creeping in, the standard does call for loose waves which I can forgive in a youngster. Pleased to see small ears making a comeback. Movement on the whole was pretty good. The Limit & Open classes for both sexes were very well supported so unfortunately some worthy dogs went unrewarded. Apologies for a late critique, the little matter of a wedding and honeymoon got in the way! VD (1) 1st Thoburns Ch Northridge Gotan Go. Worthy champion that I have previously placed highly. Now 7 years and full of confidence in the ring. Super outline and lovely coat, masculine head with level topline and tail well set. Movement okay but I would have liked a little more drive and pace. MPD, PD, JD & PGD no entries. PGD (3, 1 abs). 1st Wrights Abbeymead Stelline. 22 months. Very masculine young man, no mistaking he is a boy. Liked his head proportions, good eye, pigment and earset, strong muzzle. Good outline, tail well set. Coat maturing nicely. Well-muscled, which showed in his positive movement fore and aft when he settled. 2nd Taylors Eblanahalls Teckle Ish at Raisingsands. Just over 2 years. Presented a lovely outline on the stand. Balanced head with good pigment and super small ears. Good angles all round. Superb mature coat in both texture and wave. Moved round the ring well in profile but would have preferred a little more rear extension to complete the picture. LD (6) 1st Taylors Eblanahalls Silkbeard at Raisingsands. Very mature at 23 months and a lovely exhibit. His super movement caught my eye when he came into the ring and he didn’t disappoint on closer examination. Well balanced, lovely masculine head, good pigment and bite. Four-square with all the correct angles. Appreciated his coat colour and texture. Tail bang on top. Seriously considered for the RCC. 2nd Barretts Saffini Shining Star. Another nice one from this kennel and pushed 1 hard on the day. Similar comments apply re overall composition and coat, particularly liked his stride just needs a little more head furnishings to complete the picture. 3rd Wardles Denzilly He’s Got The Look. OD (9, 1abs) 1st Dowdys Ch Greentree Gold Mombo to Denzilly (imp). A stunner. There is little that I can say about this young man that hasn’t been said already so I will share a slightly different critique. I have had my eye on him for a while and was glad to have the opportunity to go over him, he certainly did not disappoint and I can see why he is currently top dog. Full of Wheaten character and personality plus, especially where the girls are concerned! On point and showing his socks off the whole time he was in the ring – not because he was told or trained to but just because he wanted to, thoroughly enjoying himself. Moved a dream. Such a natural showman and unenviable ring presence. He is still very young and has plenty more to give – for me, a record breaker in the making. No hesitation in awarding him CC & BOB. 2nd Thoburns Northridge Me And Tennessee. Very unlucky to meet my winner. At almost 3 years a delight to watch in the ring. Well balanced all round. Masculine head with good furnishings. Soft coat of correct texture if a little on the lighter side. Good quarters. A good, honest Wheaten with everything where it should be. Super mover, reaching out with drive and strength which won him the RCC. 3rd Dunhill-Halls Ch Mothers Finest Jon Snow at Fantasa (imp) SBD & GCD no entries VB (1) 1st Satherleys Ch Tobamorrey Sitting Pretty at Silkcroft. An amazing 11 year old young lady. In super condition and thoroughly enjoying her day. Pretty head (as always from this kennel) and still boasting a huge black nose. Coat in very good order in both colour and texture. Strong body, lovely shoulders and rear extension allowing free and true movement which won her Best Veteran. MPB (2) 1st Bristows Saffini Love Of My Life for Avard. Super sweet 6 month baby. Nice size and well balanced all round. Pretty head with good pigment and lovely eye. Nicely boned. Typical puppy coat in both colour and texture. Took a little while to settle on the move but when she did she strode out well in profile and fore and aft. Shows lots of promise. 2nd Thoburns Northridge Galway Girl. Just a month older and exhibiting a more mature outlook and size. Feminine head with neat ears. Good angles and good in body just slightly longer cast than my winner. Pretty coat. Not quite as positive on the move today. PB (2) Such a difficult class to judge, different types but loved both these young ladies. I have no doubts they will both do very well as they mature. Both ladies presented to perfection, a credit to their handlers. 1st Satherley & Witheymans Silkcroft Born This Way. Ultra feminine young lady with the prettiest of outlooks. Everything in proportion, super body, spring of rib and angles. Pretty coat still needing a little maturity. She showed attitude on the move which gave her the edge. Pleased to award her the RCC. 2nd Howes Daisymaes Tumbling Dice. Similar comments apply. Slightly larger all round but very well balanced. Nothing to fault in any department and her coat is one of the best I have seen on one so young. Beautiful in colour and the softest of waves. Movement not quite as settled as my winner on the day. JB (3, 2 abs) 1st Connors Regalred Miss Moneypenny. Mature young lady just out of puppy. Didn’t put a foot wrong in the ring, showed and moved well. Strong head with very good eye, pigment and well set ears. Well bodied, very impressed with her muscle tone and coverage, this young lady could certainly do a decent days work on the farm. Nice rear angulation and tail bang on top. Coat still needs to mature and clear a little but she has plenty of time. Moved out with drive and purpose. SYB (1 abs) PGB (4) 1st Shrives Emalot Sweet Child O Mine. Mature and confident 2 ½ year old young lady. Daughter of my RCC winner last time out and she has many of her mothers positive qualities. Liked her shape and outlook, feminine head well balanced with dark points as required. Nice neck, shoulders and rear, super coat both in colour and texture, moved out with drive to take this class. 2nd Wrights Abbeymead Capelli D’angelo. Lots to like about this young lady. Pretty head with nice furnishings, well muscled and well placed shoulders, strong back, ribs and rear. Mature coat with correct texture, lovely wave and colour coming through but not quite as its best today. Moved positively and with drive. 3rd Macgregors Kirktonhill What It’s Not. LB (6) 1st Munns Snowmeadow Suzy Sixpence. At just 2 ½ she has one of the best coats of the day, excelling in colour, texture and oh so lovely loose waves which tipped the CC in her favour. Such an honest outlook, so typical from this kennel. No exaggerations, everything exactly where it should be. Delightfully feminine head with lovely reach of neck. Level topline with tail bang on top. I can’t fault her angles. Such a natural showgirl. Took a little time to settle and get the right speed on the move (apologies to her owner for working her so hard) but it was well worth it. 2nd Satherleys Silkcroft Point and Shoot. Still has some maturing to do but she is still young so plenty of time. Smaller all round but super square, compact and balanced. Feminine head. Nicely bodied with strong quarters. Coat still needing a little maturity in colour and wave but her drive and reach around the ring gained this well deserved second place to my CC winner. Her handler certainly got the best out of her. 3rd Herberts Juliebidd I’m Amazed. OB (9) A very strong class giving me a real headache! 1st Moles & Williams Ch Celtannia Extra Chic. At 4 years you can see why she is a top winner. Lovely head, eye and pigment, nice length of neck, well placed shoulder and good rib leading to nicely angulated rear, tail on top. Soft coat with correct colour and texture. Alert showgirl moving with purpose around the ring which won her this class. Presented to perfection by her handler. 2nd Satherley, Meister & Brooks Silkcroft Some Magic Rose. This is another young lady who will have her day and no doubt take top honours. Slightly finer in outlook but balanced throughout. Prettiest of heads, nice reach of neck leading to super shoulders. Short back, well angulated rear and tail on top which she used to good effect. Lovely coat. Moved out well but not so positive as my winner in the run off. 3rd Howes Flaxela New Vision at Daisymaes. SBB (1) 1st Shears Denzilly Kinky Boots at Bearbay. Placed 4th in PG. Petite young lady. Sweet head with nice furnishings, appreciated her dark eye and pigment. Balanced and well bodied. Coat a little plush and still needing to mature in colour and wave giving her a slightly heavy appearance overall. Nice profile on the move and certainly enjoying her day, showing her socks off!
