BEDLINGTON JUDGE WINDSOR 12 BEDLINGTON TERRIER
Bedlingtons are not fond of the wind and the blustery day did put some off a little on the move. I was looking for good construction leading to the typical and sound movement of the breed. In my winners I found very sound animals with the roach in the correct place with correct rear coupling and thus leading to that free action covering the ground well. I was sorry to see some unforgiveable faults in some. There was evidence of cow hocks and closeness both front and rear on the move. Some with much more than the natural movement towards single tracking that comes with speed. Some even crossed at the front. Roaches in some were too far forward and some looked like humps on the rump. Quite a few were too straight in shoulder and some with very poor rear angulation. The set of the tail is still a problem which immediately suggests poor rear coupling and action which was also evident. As we all know, Bedlingtons change their coats almost with the seasons, and the different grooming styles, but as the late Joe Braddon once impressed on me... "it's what's underneath that coat that really matters". I found one or two with missing pre-molars, but generally head and eyes were sound with the exception of one surprising one that had a very round eye and the odd one which was just a little too broad in skull. There were a few with ears a little too short and thick. Quite a number with a round ribcage that would be envied in Poodles and these were not just in the bitches. There were no cracked pads and no really poor feet. The BOB was something very special, both in soundness and movement. Finished to perfection, it is no wonder that he has so many major titles. The BCC winner was of equal quality and very similar in type. The Res CC winners and puppy winner also should have a very bright future and all moved out with style and soundness.
