BEDLINGTON JUDGE WELSH KENNEL CLUB 16

Bedlington Terriers

I would like to thank the officers & committee of WKC for giving me the opportunity to judge this prestigious show. I should also like to thank my two helpful stewards who gave invaluable help during this appointment.

I am pleased to report there were no bad mouths nor cracked pads & I am delighted to report that muscletone was very evident & that movement reflected this. There was no evidence of exaggeration & I am delighted to see the breed taking this point seriously. Finally, it was evident that jackets have improved in texture but particularly in colour. I should like to thank all exhibitors for the efforts that they had made with such excellent exhibits.

PD (1)

1 Bannister’s Miteymidgets English Dream, 11 month old blue dog. Already quite mature. Excellent outline with good tail carriage both standing & moving giving an impression of true balance. Strong masculine head, firm muscle & good jacket. Definitely one for the future. BP.

JD (1)

1 Macnally’s Conekesheved Ironstone Boy, 14 month old with dark blue jacket that takes the eye. Hope he has stopped growing for at present he is of correct size & well balanced. Has a clean head leading into good neck & shoulders. Pleasing outline held on the move. Movement was correct coming & going. Needs to take care with his tail.

PGD (1)

1 Worrel’s Bluesmurf Semper Fidelis, 2 year old blue dog. Out of the leggy stage & looking the part. Ideal size with everything in the right place. Good foreface, quality coat & correct outline. Tail set about right. Hard muscle with plenty of bone & as one would expect this combination allowed him to cover the ground in the correct manner.

LD (3)

1 Thompson’s Jetsway Bollinger, dark blue jacket, perfect for size & balance. Masculine head, fine ears, good outline with the curves in all the right places. Good length of neck & excellent shoulder placement. A slim but muscular dog with plenty of bone. I was concerned that a change of handler might affect his movement but it did not. Movement at the front & rear was exactly what a Bedlington should be. RCC;

2 Butler’s Yarbach Federers Final, another dark blue dog who pushed 1 all the way. On another day places could change. Of correct size & full of breed type. Outline fits the bill & again presented in hard condition. I had to split hairs but preferred the movement of 1;

3 Mayer’s Tcheria Causing Tchaos.

OD (3,1a)

1 Kiernan’s Ch Sharnor High I’m Viktor at Kierlander, he has just entered his third year & when I judged him last he was my BP. He has done me proud in the last two years with numerous group placings. What sets him out from the crowd is his ring presence. He just fits the bill for the breed & it would be redundant to mention all his good points. I had the impertinence to ask his handler to show him on a loose lead (I had done so with every exhibit). He did not disappoint & his movement was a pleasure to watch. CC & BOB;

2 Pederson’s Sharnor High Intensity, litter brother to 1 & in many ways very similar as one would expect. So what is the difference? Somehow, 1, looks better “put together” having a slightly better topline & to me, a slightly better rear construction, but much comes down to the ring presence of 1. At any other time he could have been the one to watch out for.

VB (2,1)

1 Yearley’s Ch Gnejnabay Genejenie Gal at Lowbrook, liver bitch who turned 8 this month. It is not often we have two outstanding exhibits in the breed at any one time. Perfect for size & balance, slim, flexible but with strong bone & muscle. Feminine head with an excellent bite & strong teeth. Full of breed type when standing & on the move she is perfection. Looks as though she has no need of a handler. She knows just what to do and commands the ring. CC & BV.

PB (3,1)

1 Butler’s Yarbach Christmas Cracker, blue bitch just short of 8 months. What maturity for one so young. Feminine head, excellent topline held on the move. Matched with correct tuck up & tailset. Dark blue linty jacket, that belies her age & movement that could not be faulted;

2 Bannister’s Miteymidgets This Is Me, 11 month old blue bitch with many good features. Long but feminine head & good length of neck. Of a good size with plenty of length in the body. Good topline with deep chest. Movement good coming & going. These two young girls are going to have a great competition as they mature & I look forward to seeing how they both progress.

JB (4,2)

1 Macnally’s Conekesheved Caldo Girl, 14 month old blue bitch. Quite a striking youngster. Correct size & everything where it should be. Good topline without any tendency to exaggeration. Deep chest & firm muscle. Jacket of good quality. Moved with a purpose not often seen in one so young;

2 Brook’s Doehey Zanny, 16 month old blue bitch of quality. Unlucky to come up against 1 & in such good form. Every bit ‘the lady’. Feminine but strong head, good dark eye & fine ears. Lovely neck & shoulder set & body of good balance. I felt that the topline has yet to settle & the chest could yet drop further. I am confident that she will have her day.

PGB (5,1)

1 Phillips’ Jetsway Fleur of Rathsrigg, attractive blue girl. Ideal size & sports a dark blue jacket that strikes the eye. But it is not all appearance. Outline is spot on, the topline showing the high point to be in the right position at all times & of the correct, gentle shape again with no suggestion of exaggeration. Lovely head with delightful expression. Does not disappoint on movement. Showed with that bit of sparkle that took her into first place;

2 C Caldo Girl;

3 Mayers’ Tcheria She’s Tcheeky.

LB (3,1)

1 Bannister’s Miteymidgets Love In Bloom, really classy blue bitch. Lovely expression with a long head, dark eye & fine ears. Spot on for size & balance. Her long head & smart jacket make a fine picture, finished off by correct outline & tailset. I was taken by the rear construction with a classic mixture of correct bend of stifle & well let down hocks. Has good muscle & movement was exemplary;

2 Worrel’s Bluesmurf Utrinque Paratus, very similar to 1 but on checking the breeding, it was not difficult to see why. Much of what was said for 1 could also be said of her but not quite as well executed particularly in the hind legs. I’m sure both of these young bitches will compete against each other in the future & I look forward to seeing what other judges think.

OB (4,2)

1 Bannister’s Ch Miteymidgets Look Of Love, both bitches exhibited in this class have the same dam & there are many similarities. There are also many differences. My winner sported a dark blue jacket, has a long but feminine head, long elegant neck & also excels in length of body. Full of breed type with and outstanding outline. At one time noise from outside the ring could have disturbed both exhibits but they soon settled. Once on the move this girl commanded the ring with imperious movement. It was that extra sparkle that won her the day. RCC;

2 Bannister’s Miteymidgets Going Global, not difficult to see why she is a champion. She is however a little shorter in the body than her half sister & not quite the coat on the day. Everything else about her is just class. Lovely head, good neck & shoulders, deep chest & correct outline. Movement could not be faulted either coming or going.
