BEDLINGTON JUDGE WELKS 13

Bedlington Terriers

Overall, the bitch classes showed more depth of quality throughout, although there were some very good dogs in the upper classes.

PD (1)

1 McCourt’s Burmington Hush A Bye, considered withholding from this one, but found just enough saving graces. Adequate length to height ratio, movement in profile showed enough lift, but decidedly erratic coming & going. Decent jacket. Just 9 months, with age & maturity may show some improvement.

PGD (1)

1 Smith’s Vakurblue Eggy Bread, head proportions OK, good mouth with large, white teeth, good length of neck but a little upright in shoulder. Rather narrow across chest, consequently his front movement was not the best, plaiting coming towards. Movement generally was difficult to assess, as he was quite unruly. Flat ribs, decent length of loin to give overall correct proportions. Still needs to mature & strengthen throughout.

LD (3)

Overall quality in this class was good, with all three having virtues which could have won them the class on another day.

1 Graham’s Ruffsfurze Kazan, not a glamorous dog, has to be handled to appreciate his qualities. Beautifully proportioned, length slightly greater than height, giving a lathy & athletic outline. Long powerful head with strength of muzzle, big white teeth & correct earset, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, deep flat ribs, good depth of brisket with length & strength to loin, in good hard muscular condition, resulting in positive movement, although he could perhaps be moved a little faster, to allow him to reach out a little more with lift & spring to his stride. Kept a good topline standing & on the move. His handler needs to take care how he sets up the dog, as he made him appear straight in stifle on occasion. CC;

2 Brady & Carter’s Tcheria Shenanigans, I have watched this lad mature from a raw pup to a beautifully finished young animal. In better coat than 1, excellent colour & texture, although just not quite the hard muscletone. Another correctly proportioned, good angulation front & rear, held a lovely topline. His trim made him look a bit thick through the neck, & he just lacked the length of foreface of 1. Nevertheless, another outstanding youngster. RCC;

3 Garbutt’s Highdene Hitman at Aireview.

OD (4)

1 Owen’s Ch Bisbee Beachcomber, beautifully constructed, in hard condition & the best of thick, dark coats. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders, true horseshoe front, deep flat ribs, but appeared a little too roached over the loin, & not stretching himself out, possibly due to the breezy conditions. A little proud of his tail at times, but movement was good coming, going & in profile. A serious contender in the challenge;

2 Jones’ Pengerrig Unique, close to 1, little to choose, but he just lacked the coat & finish. Well constructed with correct angulation both ends, excellent tailset & carriage, length & good muscle to quarters, low hocks. Moved well, could change places with 1 on another day;

3 Brooks’ Doehey Heartstrings.

PB (5)

1 Beesley’s Lowbrook Little China Girl at Flintstor, delightful baby, takes after her illustrious dam, & in the same good coat, beautifully proportioned with good length/height ratio, held a nice topline standing & on the move. Long head with strength of foreface, carried well on long neck which flowed into well laid shoulders. Moved well for one so young. Still a baby, she will deepen in body to complete the picture, but one, I'm sure, with a promising future. BP;

2 McNally’s Aireview Dancing Queen at Conekesheved, lovely young bitch, up to size but carries herself well & beautifully balanced. Her hind movement was a little erratic, although the uneven ground may have contributed, & deserved her place here;

3 Kinns’ Burmington Reet Petite.

JB (1)

1 Mayers’ Toolbox Helping Hand for Tcheria, well proportioned, good length of loin, but could still deepen a little through the brisket to complete the picture. Correct angulation both ends, low hocks, resulting in true movement from all directions. Feminine without weakness, another who should continue to do well as she matures & finishes.

PGB (7)

1 Mayers’ Tcheria Flibbertigibbet, overall, presented a well balanced outline, perfect topline with correct muscular arch over the loin, in first class dark, thick jacket. Good head with small, dark eye & well set ears, perfect mouth, long neck of good strength into sloping shoulders, deep brisket, flat ribs, correct hind angulation. Movement spot-on whichever direction she was travelling, with light, springy stride. RCC;

2 Graham’s Ruffsfurze Beren, littermate to DCC winner & many of the same comments apply. Balanced throughout, good length of body & hard muscled, true mover. Possibly a better head than 1, kept a lovely topline, but lost out on coat;

3 Owen’s Doehey My Heart’s Content by Bisbee.

LB (9)

1 Williams’ Ystwythbay Rhapsody In Blue, another with the body length I was looking for, strength & elegance throughout. Nice head with dark eye & well set ears, good mouth, long neck into correctly angulated forehand, horseshoe front. Flat ribs & good depth of brisket, muscular loin, good quarters with low hocks, moved well on the uneven ground;

2 Lacey’s Bowlingbrook Trick Or Treat, smaller bitch but no sign of weakness, another in thick dark jacket. Preferred her head to 1 but she lost out on movement, as a recent season had her moving a little wide behind;

3 Walters & Mitchell’s Tunman Topsy Turvy.

OB (8)

1 Yearley’s Ch Gnejnabay Genegenie Gal at Lowbrook, the first time I’ve judged this top-winning bitch having admired her from the ringside, & on handling, she did not disappoint. Not a big one, she is perfectly proportioned with presence, long, lean feminine head carried high, strong neck of good length flowing into well laid shoulders with length & depth to body, kept a perfect topline standing & on the move. Well boned down to her feet, strong sloping pasterns, correct quarters, well muscled, resulting in true movement from all directions, in beautiful coat. CC, BOB & G2;

2 Bannister’s Miteymidgets Look Of Love, as ever from this kennel, in good hard condition & nice jacket. Correctly proportioned, good head, length of neck & depth of ribs, kept a nice topline, but still needs a little more time to mature & finish. Movement was OK, but she was not coping so well with the rough ground, have seen her move better;

3 Owen’s Bisbee Belle Inni, completed a trio of first class bitches.
