The National Bedlington Terrier Club Championship Show. Sunday 16th July 2023.
125th Anniversary.

May I begin by thanking the officers and committee for the invitation to judge and for the lovely hospitality throughout the day, I would also like to thank my stewards Ralph & Pam. It was a relaxed day, with a good atmosphere.
Thank you to the exhibitors for the time and expense for presenting their dogs for my perusal.
Although not a large entry, I was very happy with my principal winners and I am delighted to say that the presentation was good, no dirty teeth, an odd dentition issue and as expected no cracked pads, muscletone was generally good and jackets were varied.

Puppy Dog (3)

1. Morrice’s, Mollora Black Night. Just 6mths. Quite liked this young fella. Hes balanced throughout and correct size for age. Good clean head, sparkling dark eye, of good shape and narrow and thin ears. Clean through a good length of neck and well laid shoulder. A good depth of flat ribbing. Nice height to length ratio. Strong loin and correct topline, with a tidy tailset. Well angled both front and rear and stood on hares feet. Tidy mover for age and can only improve when firmed up. BPD & BPIS. 2. Nunn’s, MacTufts Brave Mans Game. A stronger 9 month male. Plenty of him, but a lot to like. Masculine head, ok through neck, good depth through brisket, and excellent bone. When relaxed presented a decent topline and angles were ok front and rear. Was sporting a good linty jacket with a good scattering of guard hairs coming through. Moved ok fore and aft. Needs a little ringcraft to settle handler and dog.

Junior Dog (3,1)

1. Gillies, Travellerways Finlay. Another youngster who has some good qualities. Very typical through masculine head, clean neck and good depth of brisket which is well ribbed. Has good bone and substance. Correct topline, strong loin and tidy tailset. Sporting a decent jacket. Was so clean & typical on the move both fore and aft.

2. Blakeys, Little Bristle Charmer. Well this young fella was full of himself and gave his young handler a difficult ride today. Sporting a dark jacket, he presented a decent outline when stacked. He was balanced, had a good length to height ratio had a good depth of brisket and correct arch over loin with tidy tailset. Well angled rear assembly. Difficult to assess on the move has he didn’t want to play the game.

Limit Dog (2)

1. Fletchers, Maevani Aladdin Sane. This male is well up to size, that said he is very well made. From his masculine typical head, dark triangular eyes, thin ears and strong bite. He has excellent depth of brisket, flat ribbing, strong loin, with good topline, tailset, excellent bone and good muscletone. He has a well angled correct front and rear and stands on correct hares feet. His correct jacket was prepared and presented very well. Tidy on the move which completed the picture.

2. Ross, Ross & Creggan. Major Tufts at Mactufts. Smaller framed male, who impressed on the move, clean and true. Genuine dog, workmanlike with a good depth of brisket. Not the head, jacket or angles of the winner.

Open Dog (3)

1. Cumming’s, Ch Rocabec Riding Shotgun. I judged this dog at his first show as a puppy and had no hesitation then of awarding him BPIS, at a club Champ show. I advised then that ‘a very bright future awaits’. well he hasn’t disappointed. He is a pleasure to go over and to watch as he effortlessly covers the ground, true always in a very typical fashion. totally balanced throughout with graceful curves. Nothing exaggerated and Very clean on the move. Good for overall size. Pleasing textbook head, dark eye, good strong teeth, and thin ears. Clean through neck and shoulders that were laid correctly. Typical front, ample depth of flat ribbing, strong loin of correct length, correct arch over loin and smart croup giving correct tailset. Correct rear angulation, with well formed rear and low hocks. Powered his way around the ring, with head held high and a flowing , light, springy movement. A delight to judge this lightly shown 4 yr old outstanding quality male. DCC & BIS.

2. Middlebrook’s, Ch Tcheria Tcharlston. Another who I judged as a youngster and thought highly of him. He is a quality male, of good type, nothing exaggerated and of a good size. Pleasing through head, thin ears of correct size, clean neck, well laid shoulders and correct front. Tidy ribbing with depth, correct arch over a strong loin, leading into a correct croup and tailset. Ample bone and substance, tidy hares feet. Covered the ground in a typical mincing style. RDCC

Puppy Bitch (3)

1. Worrall’s, Skewhill Remembrance with Bluesmurf . Typical headed youngster, with strength but feminine. Smart through neck, correct front, good bone and ribbing. She has a tidy tailset, but is very fond of it on the move which spoils the shape. She was sporting a jacket that is coming through well and moved tidily.

2. Fraser & Butler’s, Worth Waiting for from Ycart. Just a baby and giving a lot away to the winner. She pleases for overall shape and balance and is well put together, with a good length to height ratio. Has good bone and ribbing, smart topline and clean tailset. Well angled throughout and a dark jacket. Be interesting to see how she grows on. Was confident on the move.

Well angled rear, good muscletone and tidy hares feet. Kept her shape on the move and covered the ground in a typical light fashion. BCC & RBIS.

Would have liked a little more cleaner positive drive from behind, but moved in typical light micing fashion. RBCC.

2. Ross, Ross & Creggan’s, Mactufts Nanny McPhee. A smart bitch who impressed in head. Very text book, long, narrow, strong jaw, large dentition and sparkling eye, one of the best today, however ears were very large. She is well bodied, with a good lengthy neck, tidy typical front and a good length to height ratio. Clean over croup and a tidy tailset. Was a little short on coat today which rather spoiled the picture. Moved in typical fashion.
