BEDLINGTON JUDGE SKC AUGUST 09

Bedlington Terriers

Having listened to advice from both breed specialists & our top all-rounders over my last 30 years apprenticeship while supporting my children in their respective breeds, I was honoured to be invited to judge the breed with CCs. Although not a huge entry I was pleased to see that most were close to the Standard.

Overall proportions of ‘slightly longer than tall’ were generally good. Most had the high point of the roach correctly placed over the loin with the necessary ‘flexibility for purpose’ on the move but regained when stationery. Tailsets with soft curving tails following through the curvature of the spine, from correct spine, set & rear construction, were generally good with no evidence of the incorrect vertically held, horizontal poker or teapot handle tails.

Rear angulation with the front of the rear foot in line with the ‘point of rump’ was also correct in most dogs present with very few straight in stifle giving the impression of the rear legs ‘hanging’ under the loin.

P

1 Garbutt’s Aireview Starprint, good head, eye & forequarters, well proportioned according to the Standard. BP;

2 Davies’ Honeymist Blue Wisp, well proportioned with lovely head, coat, rear angulation & drive. Just needs to settle in to her stride which will come with experience;

3 Lacey’s Aireview Diamond Print.

J (1) A.

PGD

1 Walshaw’s Janmark Blue Encounter, head, earset, use & reach of neck are all quality in this dog, correct proportions & roach over the loin maintained with the necessary flexibility on the move;

2 Baldwin’s Woolytop Another Star, different type to 1 but with an equally strong front, head & eye. Just lost out on the move;

3 McKendrick & Smith’s Honeymist Madagascar.

LD

1 Cumming’s Honeymist Blue Flame at Rocabec, meets the Standard with pleasing proportions & correct roach over the loin with some flexibility on the move to provide the rear drive from good angulation. RCC;

2 Baldwin’s Woolytop Lucky Star, good rear angulation & muscle to provide the rear drive to cover the ground, nice head & eye;

3 Lacey’s Summer In The City.

OD

1 Davies’ Honeymist Sunny, correct proportions, front & roach positioning over the loin with good rear angulation to meet the Standard & provide a correct action. Looked good in the group. CC & BOB;

2 Davies’ Ch Honeymist Miles High, close decision & of equal quality. Just preferred the character of 1 on the move;

3 Ross’ Cedar Of The Manor.

PGB

1 Fisher & Stumpff’s Marikov Miss American Pie, very feminine bitch with pleasing head & eye.

LB

1 Ross’ Honeymist Gaviota, lovely head & eye with good reach of neck, action. Just needs to maintain her presence on the move. OB 1 Davies’ Honeymist Tease N Freeze, deserved her award in every way & pushed hard for BOB. CC;

2 Cumming’s Ch Toffset Tribeca, good head, eye, reach of neck & coat, action was very positive. Just lost to 1 on ring presence;

3 Baldwin’s Woolytop Greeno Save The Day. Breeders Baldwin’s, so alike with good muscle & drive. Should do well as a team.
