BEDLINGTON RICHMOND 11 Judge: Frederick Gadd (Gadkey) BEDLINGTON JUDGE RICHMOND 11 Bedlington Terriers There was one thing I found appalling was the excesses of noise from those removing their cages near to the side of the ring, where I was judging it disturbed quite a few of the exhibits that I was assessing. However I had a very enjoyable day with a good entry for me to assess & a reassuring depth of quality. All exhibits were clean & well presented & on the whole temperaments appeared good but the instinct to have a little fun could be seen within their dark eyes. One thing that did please me was the outstanding fitness & well developed quarters & low set hocks, it was a pleasure to touch-feel the exhibits in such good physical condition. Generally tailset were good. However when it came to the selection, 1 or 2 fine exhibits had to take 2nd place. My main concern was toplines; with 1 or 2 fine looking exhibits having poor toplines & weak hindquarters with a distinct lack of angulations. I was also surprised to see 1 or 2 with tight fronts & bowed legs. Things that did impress me however were tight clean feet when on the table. Though it was difficult to see them in the grass, & teeth, though some needed a good scrub, eye shape, & pigmentation were first class. No sign of throatiness as all the exhibits were exemplary. What was of serious concern for me, movement, variable to say the least from the sublime to the well! The not so good. Coat condition was first-rate as the grooming was to perfection though at times variable, with the exhibits being put down to impress for which they did. V (3) 1 Bounden & Alders’ Lowbrook Lark of Tolpedn, fine mature bitch & I thoroughly enjoyed the moment, for her age she looked good, well made & balanced, elegant outline with superior head, excellent pigmentation & very appealing expression & I particularly liked her attitude & overall construction, excellent front, super profile & with movement that belayed her age; 2 Honey’s Barnsnap Bryony, disguised her age competently though I would like a little more of her. Fine head expression, front & profile, handled to perfection, a credit to owner. PD (1) 1 Winstanley & Alders’ Catchfraze Okie Dokie, liked the way he was handled displaying all that he had to give, fine head agreeably furnished, strong, long narrow, & deep through, tight lips, powerful jaw, excellent nose, fine profile. Movement not his fortune, little loose on the front & close behind. Well deserving his award. JD & PGD (0). OD (3) 1 Jones & Jones’ Pengerrig Unique, in tip-top condition, soundly constructed. This was a first for me & I thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. Fine head & expression, excellent neck leading into perfectly laid shoulders, tremendous front & profile, deep rib, excellent tuck-up, powerful hindquarters, tremendous angulations, moved with confidence; 2 Ames’ Sharnor Faithful Falcon, have seen him on occasions & liked him, long narrow head, deep through, powerful jaws, tremendous neck leading into suitably laid shoulders, fine front, straight bone, deep rib. Would like more angulations. Powerful quarters, superbly set tail, when I asked him to move he did so confidently. PB (2) 1 Hurley’s Fralex Culibre Pharos, in tip-top condition & handled perfectly giving me the opportunity to have a good look at her, fine head, superbly furnished, well arched neck springing up from adequately placed shoulders, fine front, ample bone, a lot more to come especially with time on her side, moved OK; 2 Winstanley & Alders’ Catchfraze Moment In Time, another who was presented superbly, fine head & expression, lovely top knot, acceptable front, fine outline, nice tuck, carried tail well, moved OK. JB (1) 1 Hewitt-Taylor’s Tobanie Earth Song, alone, who needed the challenge. Little mischievous who liked her own way spoiling her outlin. Nice head & neck, well placed shoulders, lovely profile. Looked particularly good on the move but was determined to have it all her own way. PGB (2) This was one of those classes difficult to assess, overall they were well presented. 1 Fielding’s Reenies Silver Dreamer, looking fine, needed a little more furnishings. Grand head, neck. Would like front a little straighter. Deep into brisket, fine tuck, enough angulations, low tailset, moved OK; 2 Fielding’s Seo Firon Here It Comes, nice looking bitch, just lacking substance overall. Presentation very good, nice front & profile, enough angulations. Did not like the grass, letting it interfere with her movement which was difficult to assess. OB (5) 1 Yearley’s Ch Gnejnabay Genegenie Gal at Lowbrook, have liked her in the past & remains a favourite, so well made & balanced, elegant outline with superior head, excellent pigmentation & very appealing expression, tremendous coat, in good hard condition & well handled, moved out positively with drive, a wonderful surprise for me, moved like a dream. BOB; 2 Ames’ Sharnor Emerald Electra, another who I have admired from ringside for quite a while & it felt good to finally get my hands on her & I was not disappointed. Fine head & expression, tremendous front elevation & profile, excellent topline, deep rib, ample bone, superbly fit, lovely construction which could be clearly seen within movement. RBB; 3 Hurley’s Ch Fralex Culibre Saphire. FREDERICK J GADD |
