BEDLINGTON JUDGE LKA 12

Thank you for such a great entry of quality dogs. I was so spoilt for choice that in some classes I was having to leave out dogs that I would normally be happy to place. There were no major dentition faults and no cracked pads but there were a few dirty teeth and flat feet which were normally attached to the less fit dogs. There is no substitute for regular road work to harden muscle and put the arch back into the toes. I was pleased to see so many crisp, dark coats but where were the livers?

1. Honey’s Burbeach Sunlight. A promising youngster in good coat for his age, this seven month old pup stood alone but could have handled some competition. Sound movement reflected his lovely construction. Pleasing head with no sign of cheekiness and good dark eyes. Handled well for one so young to show off his many attributes. Pushed hard for BP but lost out on maturity to the bitch.

1. Honey’s Burbeach Sunlight.

JD. 3. 0 abs.

1. Brady & Carter’s Tcheria Shenanigans. Just out of puppy, but already in hard condition, this compact boy displayed a typical Bedlington front which, combined with a well angulated rear produced the rolling gait unique to our breed. Pleasing in head and with a sparkle in his eye and all set off with a nicely trimmed, dark blue coat.

2. Graham’s Ruffsfurze Kazan. Not as mature as 1 but a lot to like about this lad. A well proportioned dog with an excellent head, his slightly looser movement let him down today. With maturity he should tighten up and become a force to be reckoned with.

3. Waller’s Doehey King of Hearts at Rotherview.

PGD. 5. 0 abs.

1. Collier’s Pocoblu Mysterioso. A substantial dog in super coat and condition, he moved with the drive and purpose of a fit animal. A little too much coat left on his head made him appear unbalanced but underneath was a smooth skull with a powerful jaw, full of the required big teeth.

2. Bouse’s Tredomen Big Floyd. Correct sized, well boned, workmanlike dog with a dense, dark blue jacket I have often admired from the ringside. Well balanced and hard muscled, he moved well and held his topline both standing and moving. Seemed a bit bored today and wasn’t putting it all in today which cost him the class.

3. Morris’ Honeymist Mellow Tone in Bluemazzu.

LD. 4. 0 abs.

1. Bouse’s Tredomen Dixie. Good length to height, correct angulation and hard as nails, this 3 year old was easily the best mover in this class. A strongly pigmented coat, dark eyes, pleasing head, carried proudly on a well arched neck meant he pushed hard for top honours.

2. Walshaw & Richardson’s Janmark Jeremiah. Much to like about him. Beautifully groomed and with a smooth headpiece without cheekiness. This one was similar in type to the class winner but was not in his best coat today and couldn’t match the winner’s precision of movement.

3. Harris’ Ratzwell Independence.

OD. 6. 0 abs.

1. Owen’s CH Bisbee Beachcomber JW. A masculine headed lad, probably at his best right now, he impressed with his overall soundness and proportions. His good angulation and musculature resulted in a powerful, driving movement which is sometimes missing at the moment. Trimmed without exaggeration, his coat displayed an impressive natural bloom which looked like it had just grown that way. Lost out to the the bitch for BOB by getting too excited and flying his tail in the final challenge which spoiled his outline a little. CC.

2. Jones’ Pengerrig Unique Sh.CM. Perfect for size and carrying a dense, dark blue jacket, he was the sort of dog who is the backbone of any breed. Not a flashy dog, but it was difficult to fault his conformation and fitness. All male, with a typical sleepy eye and expression, he pushed the class winner hard. A little more enthusiasm displayed in the ring and the positions could easily have been reversed. Res. CC

3. Ames’ Sharnor Faithful Falcon.

VD. 3. 0 abs.

1. Caines’ Burmington and Me Too. A top sized, 8 year old dog I have judged before and my opinion of him has not changed. Masculine, with a long, strong head, he put many dogs a quarter of his age to shame with his fitness and driving gait. Difficult to believe his age, though Bedlingtons are renowned for their longevity. B.Veteran.

2. Hamilton’s Harrisclub Mr Moonray. Different in type to the winner, he was another quality dog in excellent coat and condition. 7 years old and not showing it, he moved accurately but lacked the powerful drive of 1. One to be proud of who could still hold his own amongst much younger dogs.

3. Crump’s Elizdrew Lucky Jim.

MPB. 4. 0 abs.

1. Fielding’s Burbeach Starlight. Littermate to the MPD winner and very similar in type. Not as mature and a little softer than her brother which resulted in a flattening of topline in full stride. Still a baby and time will no doubt cure this. Very promising and showing the benefits of good early schooling.

2. McNally’s Aireview Dancing Queen. Beautifully prepared and a picture standing, she let herself down on the move by messing about. A shame because there is much to like about her. Promising coat and a pretty, feminine head, she should do well when she settles with maturity.

3. Honey’s Burbeach Moonlight.

PB. 5. 0 abs.

1. Bannister’s. Miteymidgets Look Of Love. A dark blue bitch, much more mature than her opposition. Well muscled, with excellent angulation, she displayed the true, rolling, Bedlington movement so often missing today. Powerful in head without being “doggy” I was happy to make her BP.

2. Fielding’s Burbeach Starlight.

3. McNally’s Aireview Dancing Queen.

JB. 4. 0 abs.

1. Graham’s Ruffsfurze Beren. Maturing nicely, this young lady has developed into a force to be reckoned with. Well constructed, with a true Bedlington topline, with the arch over her loin, she couldn’t fail to produce good movement. Correct length to height ratio and a smooth head with dark eyes and thin ears. One to watch.

2. Hoaksey’s Nebercrackers Aphrodite. A bit leggier than Beren and of slightly lighter build she needs more time to develop. The structure is there and she has a lovely head, but it all needs pulling together and tightening up. Another one for the future.

3. Pocklington’s Nebercrackers Rosie Blue.

PGB. 7. 0 abs.

1. Hewitt-Taylor’s Tobanie Earth Song. I don’t think I have seen this girl looking as good as she did today. Crisp, dark blue coat, beautifully trimmed. Front legs under her with nicely arched toes. Correct, unexaggerated rear angulation, producing driving, fluid movement.

2. Lacey’s Bowlingbrook Trick or Treat. A lighter, more racy type than Earth Song, I have often admired this one from ringside. Hands on she did not disappoint and she was extremely unlucky to meet her on top form. Coat was softer but well coloured and prepared and she has a supersmooth head. Both these bitches should soon be moving on to greater things.

3. Kinns ‘ Burmington Truly Blue.

LB. 6. 2 abs.

1. Walters & Mitchell’s Tunman Topsy Turvy. A good example of the groomer’s art, combined with a well proportioned frame and correct outline gave this bitch the class. Attractive, feminine expression, good ear and tailset. Moved truly, if a bit lazily. Should be in the open class.

2. Caines’ Gnejnabay Just Asha At Burmington. A real liver bitch with superb, dark, crisp body coat. Muscles as hard as oak she used them to good effect, striding out in a way that only a truly fit dog can. Lovely head, held proudly on the move and with a wicked glint in her eye. A little thin in leg furnishings but much improved recently.

3. Harris’ Ratzwell Dolly Mixture.

OB. 10. 0 abs.

1. Welsh’s Wudrusjuk Work of Art. Compact, perfect sized, beautifully prepared dark coat, and so fit you could pick her up by one leg like a kitchen stool and she would not collapse. All in proportion with the arch over her loin she strode out round the ring like she owned it, with her head held high and her tail held low. I’ve never seen her look so good. CC & BOB. I understand this makes her up and I am surprised it has taken so long. Looked well in the big ring later.

2. Ames’ Ch Sharnor Emerald Electra JW. A slightly leggier type than the winner, this bitch, in good coat, was beautifully groomed to enhance her many good features. A real smoothie on the move, exhibiting the easy rolling gait required by the standard. Pushed hard for the CC and I was happy to award her the Res. CC. from a very strong class.

3. Phillips’ Ch Cassdenal Serendipity.

VB. 2. 0 abs.

1. Burns’ Alice Springs At Cassdenal. A quality bitch I placed well in her prime and she could still hack it with many of the youngsters at 10 years of age. Beautifully put down and in superb coat she still has the typical movement of a well constructed Bedlington. Had to give way to the more youthful, super fit dog in the final analysis for BV.

2. Hamilton’s Harrisclub Silver Charmer. Another old friend I have done well in the past. A racier type of bitch who moved well. Excellent head and earset. Pleased to see both veterans had big clean teeth. Lost out today on coat colour but I still liked her a lot.
