BEDLINGTON JUDGE DRIFFIELD 13

Bedlington Terriers

Having not judged the breed for three years, I hope that I may be allowed to comment on what I found here. On the plus side, given the KC’s fit for purpose edict & the proposed action next year upon judges to report any health problems found when examining an exhibit, I found no bad mouths, runny/tear stained eyes or cracked & corny feet.

On the down side I was surprised to find some heavy shoulders that contributed to the exhibits being wide across the front & also straight fronts & by that I mean when viewed in profile the legs are not far enough under the body, the upper arm angulation is not correct & may be indicative of being short in upper arm & lastly surprisingly some thick ears.

PD (1)

1 Rainsbury & Hamilton’s Jetsway Chaser, 11 months & progressing nicely, pleased in head, correct shape of eye, good bite with big teeth, thin ears finished with a tassel, correct front assembly with legs well under, good movement in all directions & importantly kept his topline on the move. Although alone worthy of his BP, one to watch for the future.

PGD (2)

1 Davies’ Honeymist Sunny Delight, superb presentation as usual from this handler, good head proportions, correct bite & eyes correctly set giving that soft expression, looked a picture standing with good topline & tuck-up, correct tail carriage. Could have moved with a bit more purpose;

2 Button’s Harrisclub Flash Harry, not as stylish as 1. Moved OK, correct front assembly, good depth of rib & length of rib through the body, good tail set, low set hocks.

LD (4)

1 Garbutt’s Highdene Hitman A Aireview, I have seen this dog on a couple of occasions over the last two years but at last he has started to mature. Pleased in head, correct scissor bite, thin ears, good reach of neck into correctly placed shoulders, good topline both standing & on the move, good tail carriage, correct length to height ratio. Just needs to put on a little bit more body to complete the picture. RCC;

2 Brady & Carter’s Tcheria Shennanigans, preferred the size of 1, this one bigger & heavier. Good head proportions, good bite with big teeth, correct set eye, good depth of rib & length through the body. Tended to lose his topline on the move. Movement OK;

3 Murby & Heraty’s Tasseltabs Timber.

OD

1 Cumming’s Ch Rocabec Definitely Maybe, I surprised myself with this one as the excess of coat is not to my liking but nevertheless under all that coat is a sound & well constructed dog that kept his topline on the move. Despite the profuse leg hair I was able to see that the footfall was correct in all directions, well off for bone & muscle, head with correct set eye & thin ears. Deserved his CC;

2 Richardson’s Highdene Howzthat, slightly smaller than 1 & I preferred the movement of 1, not as mature looking as 1. Similar comments as to the LD winner as they are litter brothers & again he is a late developer. Pushed hard for the RCC;

3 Walters & Mitchell’s Ch Rathsrigg Millrace. GCD (0).

PB (1)

1 Button’s Jetsway Chardonnay, litter sister to the PD winner but nowhere near as developed, would not settle & played up her handler on the move which made it difficult for me to assess. On the plus side upon examination, good head proportions, thin ears & good front construction.

JB (3)

1 Davies’ Honeymist Posh Dreamz, 13 months & coming along nicely, first rate presentation & handling, good head, skull not to wide & without stop, correct bite, thin ears & good reach of neck, good depth of rib, overall proportions giving a balanced outline, moved OK;

2 Cumming’s Honeymist Hot Spice at Rocabec, this liver one also 13 months, looked the part standing. Preferred the movement 1. Balanced outline with good depth of rib. Tail carriage on the move spoilt her outline;

3 McNally’s Aireveiw Dancing Queen at Conekeshaved.

YB (1)

1 A Dancing Queen at C, 16 months, mature & fully grown. Longer cast than I would have liked & that showed as she lost her topline on the move. Pleased in head, thin ears & a good reach of neck, good stifle angulation with well let down hocks, well presented & handled.

PGB (4)

1 Mayers & Bannister’s Toolbox Helping Hand for Tcheria, tried in vain to throw this class away by misbehaving on the move but I managed to see enough to justify first place. Excels in head, correct eye shape & setting, thin ears, good topline that she kept on the move, good body proportions leading into correct tail carriage that she kept on the move;

2 A Dancing Queen at C;

3 Hoaksey’s Nebercrackers Aphrodite.

LB (4)

1 Richardson’s Highdene Hetti, yet another one who contrived to want to throw away first place but did manage to behave when all three did their final walk. Correct size & build for a bitch, lovely fine chiselled head & eye giving that desired soft expression, thin ears, good reach of neck into correct front construction, good depth of rib down to elbows then through the body, good underline & carried her tail well. RCC;

2 Mayer’s Tcheria Flibbertigibbert, heavier made bitch than 1 but is still quality. Pleased in head with soft expression & the appearance of being deep set, good depth of rib then length through the body, kept topline on the move, in good coat with correct colour & texture, something that 1 did not have, moved OK;

3 Walters & Mitchell’s Tunman Topsy Turvey.

OB (7)

1 Richardson’s Highdene High Society, litter sister to the LB winner & they are so alike, the previous comments therefore apply, but this one had the light & springy movement & gait that I was looking for which is one of the prime requirements for a Bedlington making her so very feminine. Won the CC with her movement, having said that she looked & moved better in the group ring. BOB;

2 Murby & Heraty’s Honeymist String Of Pearls with Tasseltabs, another surprise packet for under all that coat was when you went over her was a good bitch trying to get out. Heavier than 1. Pleased in head, good body proportions with depth of rib, good lay of shoulder, moved OK;

3 Rainsbury’s Sevray Repique.
