Crufts 25 Judge

BEDLINGTON CRUFTS 25 What a great privilege it was judge the Bedlingtons at Crufts. I was pleased with the entry and had my work cut out sorting out some of the larger classes. The number of overseas exhibits added to the excitement bringing with it an added challenge given the various styles of presentation. Overall I felt that the quality was a little mixed although the standard at the top end of the entry was high. There are promising youngsters coming through which is very encouraging. Size varies quite a bit across the breed as does rear movement, outlines and tail carriage. Temperaments were excellent, mouths were good and presentation was to a high standard. Thank you to my two hard working ring stewards, Val Tiller and Christina Dalby who looked after us so well and were at it all day as they stewarded for the Welsh before us and the Australians afterwards. VD (7,1) 1 Int/Multi Ch Notice Knight Rider Now-19 Dkw-21 Nordw-21/22/24 Sew-23 (Ninna Odehag), what a fabulous dog to have in the very first class. He certainly helped me to get my eye in quickly. Caught my eye as soon as he entered and when I sent them round for the first time I knew immediately that he was a good one. Just looks pure quality in side gait. Was lovely to go over, correct size, his presentation was excellent and enhanced his appeal. Super head, masculine but in no way coarse, super proportions, lovely temperament and moved well all angles. Excellent tail carriage. Was on great form. What a veteran. CC and in the final run off for BOB his side gait and outline just won me over. Put on a great show in the group and I was delighted that he made the cut. 2 Am Ch Chelsea’s Lifelong Fast Lane (Eriksson), another lovely veteran. A touch heavier all through and a bit proud of his tail but has a lot of quality. 3 Int/Multi Ch Blue Hunter Iron Maiden (Koethe & Ziert)-13 years old and in great nick for his age. Still in super coat. PD (4) 1 Sharnor Sultan of Spica (Fletcher)-won the class and best puppy on his beautiful outline. Nothing exaggerated and all the curves just flowed. Good moving youngster. Will be interesting to see him as he matures. Showing real promise. 2 Blue Hunter Zami`s Best (Koethe & Ziert), flashier sort, masculine and well coated for a youngster. Not the rear movement of the winner. 3 Ratswell Bring Me Sunshine (Poultney), this one made me smile. Plenty of character giving the handler a hard time. Will be easier to assess when he steadies up. Good type. JD (5) 1 Eyes of Angel Di Nepi Rodeo Drive (Januseviciene), eyecatching youngster. Good outline and presence. Well turned out and moved ok in all directions. 2 Woolytop The Phezantplukka (Offer), close up to the winner. I was careful as I typed his name. Mature for his age, lovely headed boy, good for bone, has a mind of his own. When he settles will have a good future I would think. 3 Maristella Mitena among Durhamiites (Wilkinson), completed a typical trio. Not as mature as the two above him. PGD (6) 1 Devleigh Blue Thunder (Dobson), won the class on his overall appearance, nice balanced boy, decent coat, masculine, moved moderately well. 2 Amifidele Hashtag Hipster (Scott), probably a better dog than he appears. Moved quite well up and back. Needs a bit more schooling to get the best out of him. 3 Bisbee Bulldozer with Tessarion (Lowe), not quite the outline of the two above. In good form. LD (9,1) 1 Silverkinn Skyfall of Topaz (Pedersen), this was the one that caught my eye on initial examination. The best coated and bodied in the class. Could be stronger in rear. 2 Tobanie You Rock My World JW (Hewitt-Taylor), quality boy, steady, just a touch longer than the first, good outline when stacked. Not quite so good on the move. 3 Miteymidgets Modern Love JW (Bannister)-close up to the two above. Ok in outline, well turned out, masculine head, was a bit sluggish. OD (15,2) 1ST Ch/Ir Ch Fioralainn Written in The Stars with Sharnor (Mrs S.J. & Miss S & Mrs C Ames & Mccusker & O’Pray)-topped a competitive class and his excellent movement took him to the top, my notes commented on the fact that he was not overdone in any way, everything just flowed, lovely coat, well presented, handler got the very best out of him. In most competitions would have been an easy CC winner so was unlucky to meet the veteran in such sparkling form. Is top drawer. A well deserved Res CC in strong competition. 2 Am/SE Ch Prismic Fashionista Ignites The Revolution Cax Dcat (Odehag), a flashier sort, nice outline, just a touch proud of his tail, moved well. 3 Ch Conekesheved Out of The Blue JW (Mcnally)-super type, lovely outline standing and moving. Is only young and it showed in this class. Still has some maturing to do but his obvious quality earned him the placing in this competitive class. Good Citizen Dog Scheme D (4) 1 Woolytop The Phezantplukka (Offer), this boy was 2nd in the junior class. Decided to steady up here which won him the class. Nice outline 2 Ratswell Bring Me Sunshine (Poultney), was a bit proud of his tail which pegged him against the winner. Good condition and in good body. 3 Jobanker Iron Icon (Pollard & Barrowcliffe, not quite the quality of the two above. Nicely headed boy. VB (12,3) 1 Swe Ch Isotop’s Kotte (Eriksson)-another good veteran, lovely size, nice outline, good coat, steady on the move, lovely quality. 2 Ch Miteymidgets Going Global JW ShCM VW (Bannister), pushed hard, equally good outline, good coat texture. 3 Kinnuva Siam Jewel (Kinns), completed a trio of good typy veteran girls. Looking good for her age and is quality. PB (3,1) 1 Silverkinn Time for Tea Rose (Scott), really nice sort, lovely outline, steady, holds herself well and carries her tail well, enough substance but feminine with it. Promising. 2 Silverkinn Spice Girl (Hart), lovely coated girl and close up to her sister, equally steady, just a bit higher arched over the loin than her sister and a little prouder of her tail. JB (10,1) 1 Notice Stay Salty Nord Jw-24 (Odehag), won the class on her overall performance. Decent outline, good proportions, well presented, moved ok and is maturing along the right lines. 2 Honeymist Tilted Halo (Martin), this one was of equal quality, beautiful when stacked, lovely type, feminine but not lacking in substance, good mover, beautifully presented, had she been a bit bolder she could well have turned the tables 3 Agnellino’s Dark Sorceress (Boyd), not quite the presence of the two above. Ok for coat and decent enough outline. PGB (13,4) 1 Raphelyans Miss Armani at Rapharni (Ainsley), put on a good show, I liked her proportions, I liked her substance, feminine, moved ok, a bit proud of her tail, her young handler did a really good job. 2 Daldorn Candy Kisses (Mackie), looked like she might be the winner when she first came in, similar comments apply to her as the one above, decided to play her handler up on the final round which just pegged her. 3 Rose Jasmine Diamond Lamb (Imp Pol) (Glaister), not quite as eyecatching as the two above. Movement was ok, lost her outline a little. LB (14,4) 1 Sarmarblue Shadow Follow Me (Westwood), steadiest performance in the class, nice coated girl, decent substance, moved ok up and back, good outline on the move, could do with a touch more length of skull. 2 Woolytop Secret Wispa among Wallaroo JW (Porter-Manning & Porter), very typical, nothing exaggerated, moved ok, could do with a bit more attitude. 3 Raphelyans Miss Armani at Rapharni (Ainsley), winner of the previous class and still looked competitive amongst the limit girls. OB (14,3) 1 Ch Conekesheved Too Shy JW (Mcnally, this one is text book in stance and a lot of the time she does it freestanding, unmistakeably a bitch, beautifully balanced, holds her outline in profile and moves well up and back, no exaggeration, lovely headed, coat well turned out, topped a good class and went on to win a well deserved CC in strong competition. 2 Ir Ch Fralex Culibre Quintina at Sharnor (Ames, McCusker & O’Pray), pushed all the way, really steady performer, good moving, lovely outline, feminine, super presentation, just a touch higher over the loin than the winner but is of clear champion quality. Res CC 3 126 - Bowlingbrook Tumbleyweed (Lacey)-very much the sort that I rewarded today, caught my eye in this strong class and continued to do so. Feminine but workmanlike. Good Citizen Dog Scheme B (2) 1 Terrablue Spirit Bizzibeddies (Jackson), steady bitch, nice outline, needs to mature on and strengthen up behind. 2 Kinnuva Siam Jewel (Kinns), this veteran girl put on a better show in this class, delightful temperament, a touch exaggerated over the loin.
