Crufts 18 Judge

BEDLINGTON CRUFTS 18 Judge(s): MRS S DAVIES I would like to thank the Kennel Club for allowing me the honour of judging Crufts. I was very pleased with my principle winners but there were many exhibits which deviated from the Breed Standard in significant ways. I did not find any bad mouths (except one level bite) nor did I find any bad feet and teeth were mostly clean. Some did not have an almost white topknot. Some exhibits did not have the required movement for a Bedlington, many were close behind, lacked drive from the rear and some high stepped at the front almost hackneying. Some tails did not reach the hocks and the correct proud head carriage was thin on the ground. There were flat or pointed backs, high points of the topline either over the rump or chest instead of over the loin, small heads, small teeth, high hocks, upright shoulders and worst of all tails not carried naturally gracefully down in a graceful scimitar shape. Teaching a dog to keep its tail down in the ring is no substitute for correct tail carriage. All the above are examples of things which are greatly at odds with the breed standard and if repeatedly overlooked by judges are in danger of irrevocably changing this breed and sadly few people seem to be trying to correct such breed standard faults. Breeders, exhibitors and judges have a duty to the breed to maintain important breed points. 1 Koethe & Ziert's Int Ch/Multi Ch Blue Hunter East Wood Kolja. This 11 year old liver dog moved very well. Nice head and expression, thin ears, pleasing outline. 1 McManus' Travellerways Rory. Pleasing puppy, nice outline, nice head and expression, correct ears. Should do well. BP. 2 Rogerson & Cuttings' Kensteen Ballerino. Would prefer a shorter back and better topline, good coat colour. 1 Baldwin's Woolytop Golden Surprise. Very pleasing outline with good topline, moved well, nice head and expression, correct tail, nicely balanced, good coat and furnishings, nice ears. 2 Middlebrook's Tcheria Tcharleston. Nice head and expression, good coat. 3 Kinns' Kennuva Dark Sleekster. 1 Offer's Woolytop The Wherryman. Beautiful head and expression, excellent outline, correct sloping pasterns (one of the few who had these) good coat and furnishings, good angulation, moved well, should do very well. 2 Fitzgerald's Trevelyans Unzip You Got The Look (Imp NLD). A close choice between first and second. I just preferred the slightly more racy look of first. Also had a lovely head and expression, good coat and furnishings, good angulation. and moved well. Another showing promise. 3 Brown's Travellerways Madness. 1 Richardson's Highdene Hartley. Nice head and expression, correct ears, good coat, correct deep chest, moved with purpose, good angulation. 2 Villot's Almasys My Name Is Bond. Beautiful head and expression, beautifully presented, good ears, deep chest, a lovely dog but would just prefer more typical Bedlington movement. 1 Pykhar's Ch/Multi Ch L'End Show Metti Surprise At Glare. An outstandingly good example of the breed, lovely outline, lovely head and expression, deep chest, one can see his sloping pasterns, moved very well, for complete perfection would just like to see his tail carried a little lower. DCC & BOB. 2 Kiernan's Ch Sharnor High I'm Viktor At Kierlander. A very worthy Champion, unlucky to meet first on the day. He has represented the breed in groups etc, very well over his career. Sadly he is apparently being retired. Res DCC. 3 Bannister's Miteymidgets English Dream. 1 Offer's Woolytop Theodore. Lovely head and expression, good outline, deep chest, good legs and feet, moved well but could be a little smaller. 2 Kinns' Kinnuva Dark Sleekster. Nice coat texture, moved ok, sadly lacked "nearly white" topknot required in the standard. 3 McCourt's Burmington Hush A Bye. 3 Hewitt Taylor's Mollora Eastern Dawn For Tobanie. 1 Fletcher's Janmark Justfor'J At Maevani. Nice feminine head and expression, nice coat colour and texture, nicely presented and handled, would just prefer more length of back. 1 Pocklington's Timberose Rhapsody in Blue ShCM. Well presented, good head and expression, good angulation, sloping pasterns, low hocks, moved well, nice shoulders, good coat, good tail set and carriage. 2 Baldwin's Woolytop Lavender Girl. Correct outline, good tail set, deep chest, good legs and feet, decent coat and furnishings, moved well. 3 Cleaver's Jobanker Virtuous Veronica. 1 Engevi's Blue Foundation Once Upon A Dream. Nice coat, nice outline, good angulation, nice head, nice coat, nice outline, good angulation. 2 Ames' Mollora Red Velvet At Sharnor. Lovely dark coat of good texture, nice head, topline ok on the move. 3 McManus' Kenquartz Teal Tweed. 1 Bishop's Plumeria's Sea Breeze. Beautiful head and expression, excellent head carriage, good neck, best of legs and feet, good angulation, nice ears. Beautifully presented and well handled. RBCC. 2 Richardson's Highdene Harmony. A nice bitch with no exaggerations. Good coat, nice head and expression, good legs and feet, good angulation, moved well. 3 Hall's Fralex Culibre Amber. 1 Bishop's Fralex Culibre Bolyn. This lovely bitch surprised me, she has matured into a lovely typey bitch. Nicely balanced, good coat with good colour for a liver, beautiful head and feminine expression, good angulation, best of legs and feet, moved well with drive from the rear, one of the few not moving close behind on the day. Presented and handled to perfection. BCC 3 Hurley's Fralex Culibre Seymour. 1 Pocklington's Timberose Rhapody In Blue ShCM (see JB). 2 Bannister's Ch Miteymidgets Look Of Love ShCM. Difficult choice between first and second. Good coat, nice head, moved well, just preferred the topline of first. 3 Kinns' Kinnuva Siam Jewel.
