BEDLINGTON CRUFTS 16 Bedlington Terrier Judge(s): MRS P GARBUTT BEDLINGTON JUDGE CRUFTS 16 Bedlington Terriers A big thank you to Crufts for asking me to judge I felt honoured to be asked & to have received such a great entry was marvellous. I found overall that the entry was of good quality, the majority were well muscled sound dogs which showed in good movement & many with really good coats. I was spoilt for choice in the challenges, no problems with feet just a couple of minor mouth issues but the heads in the dogs have improved greatly since I last judged. VD (5,1a) 1 Ziert & Koethe’s Int/Ger/Dan/Lux Ch Blue Hunter East Wood Kolja, liver just 8 years in good condition with a very deep chest & lovely wedge shaped head on a lovely long neck into good shoulders with lovely fine ears, good clear eye, large nostrils, moved well & kept his shape on the move, stood on good clean hare feet; 2 Jones’ Ch Pengerrig Iron Duke, blue in excellent condition for 12 years, good crisp coat & good dark pigmentation, also good depth of rib & good shoulders, on the day just preferred the movement of 1; 3 Davies’ Ch La Skuggans Jack In The Box at Honeymist, another excellent veteran with deep chest, kept his shape on the move, lovely head, correct hare feet. All four veterans can show the youngsters a thing or two. PD (3) 1 McNally’s Conekesheved Ironstone Boy, nice youngster, up to size but all in proportion with an excellent coat & good furnishings. Nice length in head carried correctly on a lovely long neck, kept his shape on the move, correct bite, fine ears & dark eye. He will trouble the best as he matures. BPD; 2 Button’s Jetsway Solo Star, another good youngster of good size, with a good crisp dark coat & lovely furnishings, not quite the head of 1 & preferred the movement of 1; 3 Ricketts’ Doehey Zoom, up to size but in good coat, needs time to settle but a nice youngster. JD (4) 1 Fletcher & Lawson’s Maevani One And Only, liked this youngster very much, considered him in the challenge for RCC. Correct size, length to height, in lovely dark crisp coat with good furnishings. Carried head well on long neck, good head with correct bite & dark eye, nice fine ears. Moved out with purpose; 2 Varg’s Galactic Defender Midwinter Blue, there is a lot to like about this youngster, similar remarks for 1 could apply but coat a bit soft & he is too proud of his tail; 3 Mayer’s Tcheria Causing Tchaos, nice youngster, in good coat, moved well, carrying his tail correctly, preferred the movement & shape of 2. PGD (4) 1 Walters & Mitchell’s Tunman Ta Dah, nice dog, moved with confidence keeping his shape, plenty of bone, good depth of rib & correct shoulders, lovely long head on clean neck, nice shaped fine ears with good bite & dark pigmentation, stood on good hare feet, one for the future; 2 Offer’s Woolytop Theodore, another very nice dog, slightly longer than 1 but in proportion looks the picture standing, did not move as confidently as 1, lovely length of neck & good layback of shoulders, another with a very good head with good bite & dark eye, should have a bright future; 3 Worrall’s Bluesmurf Semper Fidelis, nice dog of correct size, did not move the same as first two & proud of his tail but had a good deep chest & lovely dark coat. LD (9,1) 1 Thompson’s Jetsway Bollinger, good size, in excellent hard coat, good depth of chest & correct layback of shoulders, nice fine head with good bite, good dark pigmentation & lovely fine ears. Moved well on good hare feet; 2 Baldwin’s Woolytop The One And Only, tough decision between these two as they are both excellent dogs, 2 not quite having the coat today of 1 & may be not moving as confidently but he has an excellent length of head, lovely large clean teeth, he definitely has a good future ahead; 3 Murby & Heraty’s Tasseltabs Timber, maybe not the ribcage of the other two but lovely fine ears which I like to see & head all in proportion with body. OD (11,1) 1 Pykhtar’s It/Rus/Lat/Lit/Cz Ch L’End Show Metti Surprise at Glare, moved as if he owned the ring, a true champion, excellent depth of rib, good length to height, trimmed to perfection, carrying a good wedge shaped head with lovely strong teeth & good pigmentation, excellent length of neck into correct shoulders, plenty of bone, stood on good hare feet, correct rear angulation, cannot fault him, pleased to give him the CC; 2 Cumming’s Ch Rocabec Definitely Maybe, I have admired this dog from the ringside for some time & he did not disappoint, correct size, everything in balance, good neck & shoulders, in good crisp coat, strode out with purpose & kept his shape on the move, good head all in proportion with body, alert expression, nice eye with correct bite. Shame to come up against 1 in such good form. RCC; 3 Kiernan’s Ch Sharnor High I’m Viktor at Kierlander, very good dog all in proportion, can see why he has won so much, I have to admit from the ringside I was not impressed but hands on is a different thing, I just preferred the movement of the other two today. GCD (4) W Theodore; 2 B Semper Fidelis; 3 McCourt’s Burmington Hush A Bye, nice dog, sweet expression, just wanted to please his handler, moved OK, shame about his tail. VB (7,2) 1 Yearley’s Ch Gnejnabay Genegenie Gal at Lowbrook, she has been such a good ambassador for the breed & still looking good, correct size, in good condition, moved well both ways, all in proportion, can’t fault her, pleased to make her my BV & RCC; 2 Bannister’s Ch Miteymidgets Hawkers Cove, different type to 1 but a good example of the breed nevertheless, in exceptional condition as always from this kennel, lovely crisp dark coat, movement spot on, deep chest, good angulation, a very close decision; 3 Phillips’ Ch Rathsrigg April Rose, I was spoilt for choice in this class, another good bitch, just did not look happy today, correct size, nice clean head, good bite, in good coat with good furnishings. PB (4) 1 Rainsbury & Hamilton’s Jetsway Absolut Ice at Tangris, lovely puppy, nice size, all in proportion, good bite, nice dark eye, clean neck into good shoulders, in exceptional coat with good furnishings & pigmentation, moved with confidence, just looked a picture, pleased to make her BPB & BP; 2 McNally’s Conekesheved Kaldo Girl, another very lovely puppy, just didn’t move the same as 1, just needs time to settle, but nice size, lovely long head, good bite & dark eye, nice ears carried well with good coat colour & texture all in proportion. It’s looking good for the future with the puppies here today; 3 Brooks’ Doehey Zany, nice puppy of good size, again lovely crisp coat with colour, just not the movement of the other two, nice clean head with good bite with long neck into clean shoulders & depth of chest. JB (5,1) 1 Bannister’s Miteymidgets Love In Bloom, very sound young bitch, moved with confidence, all in proportion, carried her tail correctly, lovely dark coat of correct texture, everything coming together nicely, lovely long neck into good shoulders, good bite, nice ears, with time she should definitely bloom; 2 Varchi’s Amazing Armony, a shade taller than 1 but very nice, kept her roach on the move, went with confidence, tail carriage correct, coat a little soft but colour coming through, nice deep chest, ribs well back, good angulation; 3 Bishop’s Fralex Culibre Bolyn, nice size, lost out on movement today but very promising, another with good depth of ribcage. Lovely long neck into good shoulders with depth of chest, ribs well back.
