BEDLINGTON JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 19

Nice to read the top winners were mostly all closely related, I was looking for a Bedlington within the standard height of around 16 inches, with the topline arch starting over the loin and definitely not arching from behind the withers. The breed as a whole has gone too far towards the “camel back” which is both ugly and not particularly useful for a working breed. I think the extremely short backed exhibits lack the flexibility to turn and cope with their work. To my mind certainly the hunch backs are not even aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Two or three were so over sculpted; they looked comical, and certainly leaning towards Poodle presentation. I see the Best of Breed’s (winning his third CC) daughter won the bitch CC with her dam winning the Reserve B CC, and another younger relative winning the Reserve Dog CC. Well done those breeders for keeping true to the original types.

SBD (1)

1 Brynes & Gibbens Miteymidgets What Is Love RCC and Best Puppy. Really nice 9 mth old. I loved his very correct topline, with the arch over the loin, and not starting behind the withers. Good head coming on well. OK in front and rear movement, and a typical gait in profile. Can carry his tail a little too high, but certainly not over the back at all.

MPD (3)

1 Cummings Rocabec Riding Shotgun. Nice for both type and size for a young puppy, liked his head with no stop, neck springing up well from shoulders. Well off for bone, and feet hare like in shape. Correct topline sweeping nicely into promising hindquarters. Has a good coat coming through. Moved precisely for his age.

2 Rainsburys Mollora Shock Wave. Not the shoulder angulation of winner, and his arch in topline starts too far forward, great personality!. Good coat for a baby pup. Mincing gait, but it is coming from a too straight shoulder placement.

PD (4)

1 Brynes & Gibbens Miteymidgets What Is Love.

2 Baldwin’s Woolytop The Piper’s Son. Winner scored on topline and less angulation in rear. As the breed should only have moderate rear angulation. Lovely temperament and character. Liked his head, reasonable front, topline arch starts too far forward. Good low set on of tail. Top class coat, well presented, in good body and muscle too.

3 Offers Woolytop Stand And Deliver

JD (1)

1 the late Mrs Davies Velvety Eye Of The Storm At Honeymist. Huge and well oversize, but he is quite a typy dog, correct front, and fairly narrow ribbing, Good head under a wealth of hair. Ears set nicely. Good mover all round, especially in rear. OK for bone too.

PGD (1)

1 McManus L’End Show Mystery Uneverse Sh.CM. Good size and outline. Pleasing length and pear shaped head. Broad jaws, well set ears, OK in front and shoulders. Strong legs and thick hare feet. Topline not too bad, probably would look better with a different trim. Super quarters and width across the stifles. Narrow ribbing, nicely deep to elbows. A good terrier overall.

1 McManus L’End Show Mystery Uneverse Sh.CM.

OD (7)

1 Mayers Tcheria Causing Tchaos. CC and BOB. So nicely balanced and moderate all through. Absolutely spot on moving, comparatively narrow in front, and plenty of power in rear. Good size, not too big and clumsy as some were. Liked his head, filled in well beneath the eyes. Ears set on low and hanging flat. Correct topline with the gentle arch over the loin, and nicely tucked up underline. Moderate hind angulation, as it should be. In superb body and coat.

2 the late Mrs Davies Ch Honeymist Blue Bols. Hair do a little too extreme for me I’m afraid, especially on head, which to me looks faintly ridiculous. He too is good for size, and correct width of front. Fair topline, not quite the power in rear of winner, but he is a handy size, and good overall proportions of height to length.

3 Middlebrooks Tcheria Tcharleston.

MPB (2)

1 Scorah-Wiles Rivendown Lily Rose. Amazing pigment and she is rather a glamour puss! Lovely shape to skull, with tapering foreface. Neck and front of the best, she can flatten out in profile movement just a little too much, but I prefer that to the too roached backs. Moderate bend of stifles, and coat coming on well too.

2 Jones Pengerrig Pure Heart. Taller and quite square as her front is very upright, and lacks angulation. Deep enough for her age, pleasing head, low set tail. She has such a smashing temperament.

PB (1)

1 Pedersens Trurich Summer Dream. Ideal size, and she is feminine. Good head shape, with ears set low and flat to cheeks. Neck springing well from shoulders, and her front is excellent. Correct mover in front too. Topline a little too extreme in arch. OK behind, she has long stifles, and neat hocks. Still needs to strengthen in rear movement, but she has time on her side.

JB (1)

1 Owens Bisbee Razzle Dazzle Pleasing in head with lovely eyes and dark pigment. Excellent front, and front movement. Mincing gait in profile. Topline good, and depth of chest correct. She is also not over wide in ribbing. Fair quarters, good drive, but needs to get into a better stride going away. Impressive coat.

PGB (2)

1 Phillips Rathsrigg Willow. Two very nice bitches of good size and proportions. Winner so impressive for muscle tone, which should be a real example to other owners. Trim not extreme, and very sensible. Sound true front and rear construction. Topline not perfect, but she is a really nice bitch with quality. 2 Offers Woolytop Lavender Girl. Better topline which I admired, and a temperament to die for. Flies her ears, and she could be tighter at the elbows. Excellent depth and width, good behind, with a well set tail. Lovely profile mover.

LB (5)

1 Moore & Chudleigh Devleigh Dare To Dream CC. Flexible body with enough arch over the loin, but she is a touch long in loin. Loved her head and general forehand. Ideal feet, deep enough in body, good sweep to underline. Moderate bend of stifles. Deep pigment in her blue coat. I thought her a lovely working type all through. Moved so well all round.

2 Halls Fralex Culibre Amber. Excellent size and a correct mover all ways. Pleasing length and strength of head. Good forehand, correct topline and quarters. She is fit and well muscled but very over weight in body. Super coat and presentation.

3 Pocklingtons Timberose Rhapysody In Blue Sh.CM.

OB (9)

1 Moore & Chudleigh Ch Tcheria Tcheerleader At Devleigh, Res CC. Moderate all through and very fit and well muscled. In perfect body and coat, Ideal size for a bitch I thought. Good front and hare feet, Enough arch over the loin, to quarters which were not over angulated. Nicely trimmed (and not over done here either). Moved well. Dam of the BCC I saw.

2 Phillips Jetsway Fleur of Rathsrigg. Feminine and in lovely condition and coat. She is a real sweetie, with a great temperament. Liked her head and strong jaws, well set ears, good in front and shoulder. Ideal topline and rear. Would have liked her to put a little more effort into moving.

3 Bannisters Miteymidgets Love In Bloom JW.

VB (3)

1 Bannisters Ch Miteymidgets Look Of Love Sh.CM Best Veteran. A good working type, with deep pigment, she has a beautiful head, and eye placement. Neat low set ears. OK in front and she has perfect front movement. Nicely arched over the loin to good quarters, and low set tail. In lovely condition, full of good breed points.

2 Goddens Vakurblue Bacon Buttie. Smaller by an inch or so. Pleasing to go over, she is still very fit, and obviously likes her exercise. Lovely head and temperament, sound in legs with hare feet. Just a bit too strong in topline, but she moved well though.

3 Pocklingtons Nebercrackers Rosie Blue At Timberose Sh.CM
