WEST HIGHLAND WHITE JUDGE WINDSOR 24

It is such an honour to judge at Windsor and the weather was perfect. Westies never look better than on grass on a sunny day. Thank you to all those that entered under me and were so sporting. I feel for those with young Westies, who are the only ones in the class, they have less time to settle and enjoy the company of others in the ring. Sadly I think this is something we have to get used to. The numbers in our breed are depleted but we just have to prove that we can show quality Westies, until their popularity returns. I was very happy with my winners, my only disappointment being that neither BOB nor BP stayed for the groups.

Veteran 3, abs 2

1. Ch Hillsted Masquerade at Thozow JW ShCM VW (Mrs L M & Miss N Foster). Very masculine dog in good condition for his age. Beautiful head and expression, with breadth of skull, defined stop and strong muzzle. Good reach of neck and level top line. Coat of good texture and well presented. He moved with drive and enthusiasm.

MPD 1, abs 2

1. Forest Sprite Whisper Dusk (fci) NAF, (Mrs E & Mr T Stankiene & Stankus). Very confident puppy that made the most of himself moving round the ring. Good head and expression, plenty of width across the skull with strong muzzle and correct bite. Everything in balance, good reach of neck and well laid shoulder. Tail well set and held up on the move. Well presented in sparkling white coat. BP

PD 1, abs 0

1. Ancastle Blue Moon (Mrs A M Roberts) He wasn’t happy in the ring and would look better if he and his handler enjoyed the experience more. Decent head and masculine. Shoulder placement could be better and he was reluctant to hold his tail, both of which contributed to him appearing long. He was true on the move.

JD 1, abs 0

1 Hillsted Same Direction (Mrs K & Mr J Fox) Strong boy with very good head, undeniably masculine. Plenty of width of skull with well placed ears, dark eyes, definite stop and well made up under the eye, broad muzzle, Excellent teeth. Good bone and substance. Would like a little more layback of shoulder and better tail carriage. Needs a bit more confidence

LD 3, abs 1

Only 2 in this class but 2 different types of dog with opposing merits.

1. Otto the Maverick Prince (Mr N & Mrs G Tadhunter). A dog of good type and size. Masculine head and strong neck. Rather too broad across the chest and therefore standing wide, and heavy in shoulder. Short in back and decent shoulder. Tail well carried when standing and on the move. Good bone and substance. Preferred his overall balance to 2. Moved well.

2. Llovall Adam at Ladyleigh (Miss I & Mrs C Bouwhuis and Hamilton). A dog that although an adult still has some maturing to come. Pleasing head and good neck and clean shoulders, straight front. Still needing to deepen in chest which will give him better balance, as he appears high on leg. Tail well set and carried. He moved truly but could be more assertive.

OD 5, abs 0

Good to have a nice size class.

1. White Villain Lucky Luke (atc AY 63272fin) (Mrs K & Mrs S Van Der Veen). Free standing dog, holding his tail and confident. Very well balanced with good layback and clean shoulders, short coupled and well set tail. The first thing that strikes you about this dog is his beautiful head and big black nose, so typical of the breed. He is sound on the move and covered the ground with ease. Beautiful coat and presentation. CC, BOB

2. Hopecharm Midnight Cowboy for Braxquin (Mrs RE & Mr TA Davison). This dog looked in good form today, in good coat, well trimmed and good condition. Decent head and good bite. Well laid shoulder and strong neck, short back and good bone, tail well set. Well balanced. Moved well. RCC

3. Ch Ashgate Kelvin JW (Mrs S M Thomson).

MPB 2, Abs1

1. Hopecharm Bright Angel, (Mrs S Fryer). Fresh as a daisy, moved round the ring as light as a feather and full of enthusiasm. Pleasing head, well placed shoulder and short coupled. Tail well set. Good balance. Excellent pigment.

PB 2, abs 0

1. Hillcloud Echowave by Ashgate (Mrs S M Thomson). Very well constructed puppy. Pleasing head, strong neck with good reach, flowing into clean shoulder, short coupled. Tail well set and well carried. Very strong hindquarters with good angulation. She moves soundly. Coat looking a bit tired.

2. Bellevue Lucky Love at Brorastar (Dr S C Cooper) Strong puppy with a lovely coat, good in texture and pure white. Still very immature, so appears up on leg. Moves well but needs to enjoy the show ring a bit more.

JB 4 abs 0

A very nice class.

1. Gin and Tonic Sunshine Celebration at Hopecharm (Imp Svk) (Mrs S Fryer). Feminine head of good proportions and good bite. Very well constructed throughout, straight front, good reach of neck flowing into clean, well laid shoulders, long rib, chest still to deepen, tail well set. Strong hindquarters, well angulated and well muscled. She moves freely. RBCC

2. Vivolunar Impres Me (Mrs E and Mr T Stankiene & Stankus). Much more mature than 1. Lovely head, with strong skull and width between the ears. Strong muzzle. Well balanced and deep in chest. Excellent tail set and carriage. Not as clean in shoulder as 1.

3. Fourastay Flower Power. (Mrs S D Bradbury).

YB 1, abs 0

1. Braxquin Especially for You. (Mrs RE & Mr TA Davison). Bitch of nice size and type. Good neck and shoulder and short back. Tail well set. Better moving in front than behind.

PGB 2, abs 1

1. Circinus Dreaming All Day (Mrs Chambers). Strong bodied bitch, with well angulated hindquarters. Head could be stronger and ear set better. Moved well with tail carried on top.

LB 3, abs 0

1. Bellevue Jump for Joy at Bocans (Miss K Gale). Well constructed bitch, feminine but powerful. Pleasing head and expression, though not in best trim today. Strong neck running into well laid shoulders, short back and tail on top, deep chest. Body coat of good texture and well presented. Moved really well.

2. Llovall All By Myself, (Miss I Bouwhuis). Liked her head and expression , good skull and well set ears, defined stop and short, broad muzzle, good bite. Slower maturing than 1, still needing to deepen in chest. Clean in shoulder, level topline, well set tail. Moved well.

OB 4, abs 1

A good Open bitch class with plenty of quality to go over. All 3 sound movers.

1. Hillsted Sweet Whispers (Mrs K & Mr J Fox). A Westie that is full of herself and very soundly made. Excellent head and expression, real terrier. Good reach of neck and clean, well laid shoulders, level top line and well set tail, although sometimes when excited on the move she doesn’t hold it as well as she does standing. What a mover, great reach in front and drive from behind. BCC

2. Ch Lizandycris The New Hope for Nossimp. (Mr K M Storey). Another very nice bitch, with good head and expression and strong neck and well laid shoulder. Liked her balance and overall make and shape. Her movement is sound but today although she moved with good reach and drive, she did not have the pizazz of the RCC winner.

3. Ch Lingbeck Hold the Dream (Mrs C A Smith)

Judge Dot Britten
