WEST HIGHLAND WHITE WINDSOR 16 Judge: Mr David Winsley BEST OF BREED : 7568 WEST, Mr I & Mrs F & WEST Mr T Ch Tomlyndon Eager Ernest JW WINDSOR JUDGE WEST HIGHLAND WHITE 16 West Highland White Terriers I would like to thank the committee of Windsor show for inviting me to judge this breed & for supplying me with two very competent stewards. There were no concerns regarding mouths or skin disorders. Some heads were disappointing, quite plain & lacking the required distinct stop. Coats were generally of a good texture, some dogs had too much superfluous coat which detracted from the whole picture of the dog. Front action needs watching, but I was happy with the hind-action of the majority. The Standard asks for the ‘under surface of pads & all nails preferably black’, the majority of nails were white. V (4) 1 Foster’s Thozow Sweet Pea, this bitch has a very pleasing head of correct proportions, well placed ears & dark eyes. Clean neck & shoulders, good front & short body. Well made hindquarters & moved with drive. In good coat. BV; 2 Gallop’s Maedhlyn Summer Knight, dog with a pleasing head & expression. Would prefer a better neck, straight in front. Mature body, well made hindquarters & good tailset. Clean well prepared coat; 3 Budge’s Charmedautum Dazzle. PD (2,1a) 1 Thomson’s Ashgate Ayton, as yet immature but has time on his side. I liked his outline & shape. He has a pleasing head, dark eye, well placed ears. Nice straight front, well angulated shoulders. Carrying a nice body, needs to settle in hind action. Has short coat but of correct texture. Promising puppy. JD (1) 1 Tadhunter’s Krypto The Vagabond Prince, alone, just out of puppy. Nice size & shape, pleasing head & expression. Good neck, a little upright in shoulder, nice straight front. Well ribbed back, short body & well made hindquarters, correct tailset. Needs to improve in movement both ways. Well prepared quality coat. PGD (3) 1 Cooper’s Brorastar Wanna Be Your Man, nice head of correct proportions, good dark eye & correct earset. Good neck, clean well angulated shoulders. Well made compact body, good turn of stifle, well muscled hindquarters, tail well set on. Moves with plenty of drive. Coat of good texture & well presented; 2 Foster’s Hillsted Masquerade at Thozow, pleasing outline, nice head with a good expression. Nice short body with good ribbing, correct tailset. Lively mover & showed well. Not as well prepared as 1; 3 Bradbury’s Gelmoore Midwinter Magic at Fourastay. LD (6) 1 Gillott & Carlin’s Lizandycris Line Me Up, nice type of dog with a good outline. Masculine head, clean through his neck & shoulders. Straight front with a well made body. Strong muscular hindquarters, correct tailset. Moved with plenty of free driving action. He has a nice coat & showed well; 2 Gale’s Bocans Bolt To Bellevue, thought he was my winner but his balance was spoilt by some excessive furnishing. Pleasing expressive head, neat small ears & dark eye. Excellent body shape & condition, strongly made hindquarters & correct tailset. Lively driving action. In a good harsh coat. A close decision; 3 Lilley & Milling’s Lilmill Nosey Parker. OD (2) 1 West’s Ch Tomlyndon Eager Ernest, takes your eye as he enters the ring, so full of confidence. Pleasing head of good proportions, dark eye & neat small ears. Good length of neck which runs into his shoulders & level topline. Clean well angulated shoulders, with a straight front. Short well ribbed body & carrying the right amount of condition. Muscular hindquarters with the correct tailset. Moves with a fluent & sound driving action. Shown in a good harsh jacket which fitted him well, quite a showman. CC & BOB, later took G4; 2 Smith’s Ch Lizandycris Call My Bluff at Roxberg, another well deserved Ch. Very nice head with full furnishings, nice dark eye with well placed ears & strong jaw. Good neck & shoulders, well made body but could carry a little more weight. Straight front & well made hindquarters. Today his topline seemed to drop off over his croup. Moved soundly both ways, a steady showman & in a good coat. RCC. PB (4,1) 1 Gillott & Carlin’s Lizandycris Maggie May, very promising girl who has a nice clean outline. Nice feminine head & expression, good earset. Good neck & shoulders, straight front. Well made body, nice turn of stifle with well made hindquarters & correct tailset. Moved well both ways & in well prepared coat. BP; 2 Bradbury’s Lizandycris Misschieves at Fourastay, litter sister to 1 & very similar in many points, but less mature at present. Pretty head & expression, nice body, would like a little more bend of stifle. Correct tailset, happy show girl & moves steadily; 3 Stock’s Lindenka Vanilla Ice. JB (2) 1 Griffiths’ Top Secret De New Gryffindor at Karamynd, smart girl, nice clean outline. Pleasing feminine head & expression, good neck & shoulders, nice straight front. Well made body, correct tailset. Nice turn of stifle, well muscled thighs. Moved soundly both ways. In good coat & condition, shows steadily; 2 Harper’s Westigo Flirty Gertie, nice head with a good stop & well placed ears. Nice straight front, body could have a little more ribbing. Well made hindquarters with correct tailset. I would like more bone. Very lively mover, nice harsh coat. PGB (8,2) 1 Gale’s Bellvue Gossip Catcher, won this class on breed type. Felt her head was a little plain, would have liked her to have more stop. Good reach of neck that blended into her level topline. Good shoulder angulation, well made compact body. Very lively sound mover, excellent quality jacket. Showed well; 2 Thomson’s Dylandougie Ayr to Ashgate, well made throughout, an honest type of bitch. Pleasing head with well placed ears & correct expression. Straight front, a little heavier in shoulder than 1. Well made & muscular hindquarters, correct tailset. In quite a decent coat, moved both ways with plenty of power; 3 Bacon’s Reifrandies Furzey at Cabon. LB (7) This was the best class of the day, full of quality. 1 Gaydon’s Gilbri Dream Maker, liked this one as soon as she entered the ring, full of breed type. Very nice expressive head, good length of neck that blends into her shoulders & topline, tailset correct. Short backed body with plenty of ribbing, carrying just the right amount of body condition. Well made hindquarters full of power that showed in her fluent driving action. Well prepared coat of the correct harsh texture. Showed well though kept her handler on her toes. CC; 2 Fox’s Hillsted Sweet Mystery, very close decision between her & 1, just preferred the head of 1. This girl too is full of breed type, excellent outline & very feminine. Nice in front, good body & well made hindquarters. Another who moves with lively free movement. In a good quality coat that was well prepared, showed well. RCC; 3 Griffiths’ Armadale’s Rosebud for Karamynd. OB (5) 1 Foster’s Thozow Forget Me Not, smart quality girl with a very pleasing head & expression. Good in neck & shoulders, nicely made short coupled body with a correct tailset. Well made hindquarters with a good turn of stifle. Moving well both ways, in good coat which was well presented; 2 Cooper’s Brorastar Ain’t She Sweet, again she was close up to 1, just preferred the expression of 1. Pleasing head, good reach of neck, clean shoulders. Good front, compact mature body, with well made hindquarters & correct tailset. Has a good driving action & an outstanding quality coat; 3 Harper’s Westigo Cheeky Girl. DAVID WINSLEY |
