The West Highland White Terrier Club
Ch Show 5th October 2019

Judge Dot Britten

Judging a breed club show is always special and I would like to thank the Club for inviting me. Thank you to the committee and steward for looking after me. Though a numerically small entry, I was lucky enough to have a number of high quality dogs to go over and place, thank you very much to those who showed under me and those who gave me entries. Temperaments were generally good and some in the breed set a very high standard in handling and presentation. I am quite certain that this doesn’t come without a lot of hard work and dedication.

SBD. (1,0)

  1. Fisher’s Havasu Head Boy. Very well handled, responding well and doing everything that was asked for him. Masculine dog with strong head, with broad skull and good stop and deep muzzle, correct bite. He has neat ears that show dark pigment. Straight front and deep body, could be better laid in shoulder. The shoulders were made to look more upright and the back a little roached by the trimming. I point this out because in general this dog was in good coat condition and just needed a little more care in where coat is taken short. Moved OK

MPD (2,0)

  1. Burns’ Burneze I’m Still Standing. 6 months and smart as paint. What a spectacle to watch him moving so freely round the ring and standing proud with no propping up. He is very well balanced, with good bone. Although still raw, he has all the makings of a good head with a broad muzzle, good stop, dark eyes and pigment and well carried neat ears. Excellent bite with large teeth. Clean, well laid shoulders and muscular neck with good reach. Short coupled and tail set absolutely on top, Strong hindquarters that are well angulated. Harsh coat, super white and in excellent condition. What more could you ask. BPIS
  2. Milner’s Juanne Rambo a Rousing Rebel. Another 6 month old and full of spirit. Strong frame and well boned. More rangy in type than 1. He has a masculine head, straight front and good layback of shoulder and strong body. His appearance would benefit from stripping out more of his untidy puppy coat that spoils his outline. Still very much a “rebel” on the move.

PD (1,0)

  1. Smith’s Faymar Huntsman. 10 month old puppy of good type. Loved his head, and super expression. Broad skull, good stop, well made up under the eye, broad, deep muzzle. He kept his eye on me throughout the class, as though I was about to take the family silver. He is short backed and is already deep in body. OK in shoulder but would like a little more reach of neck. Short, well carried tail and strong hindquarters. Moved well. Coat in excellent condition and well presented.

JD (2,0)

  1. Bradbury’s Fourastay Fontayne. Just into junior and from my perspective he is at the right stage of maturity for his age. I have admired this dog since he first came into the ring and he didn’t disappoint today. He is very well balanced and there is much about him that is typical of the breed. Very good in head, broad across the skull, well placed ears, good stop and well made up under the eyes. Muzzle is strong and good bite. Straight front and excellent in shoulder, short coupled, chest deepening, tail set on top. Well muscled and angulated hindquarters. He stands himself true and is shown freely. Moved well, although he can show a slight reluctance at times. He should have a bright future.
  2. Fryer’s Smash He’s An Ace Hopecharm. Neat outline and taking more time to mature which is showed in both head and body. Pleasing head, neat ears and good expression. Straight front, excellent shoulders, clean and well laid. Would like neck to be more muscular. Short coupled and well placed tail. Good hindquarters.  Showed well and moved happily.

PGD (1,0)

  1. Smith’s Lingbeck the One and Only. Strong, masculine boy that I would like to have seen with others in the class to give him some interest.  Another with a very good head and expression, undeniably a male and loved his big black nose. Good front, and shoulders well laid but like one in an earlier class I feel he could do with more reach of neck. Mature in body and short in the back, tail well placed and held. Very strong, well angulated rear. Moved well but would be more animated with competition.

LD (2, 0)

  1. Milner’s Juanne Rufus the Ruffian. A spirited chap with a pleasing head and OK in front. Well laid in shoulder and short coupled. Well angulated hindquarters. His movement was better when allowed to go on a loose lead and have some freedom. He also held his tail better when the lead was slackened.
  2. Fisher’s Bobo Whiskey.  A very well -schooled dog, who clearly has a close bond with his handler, wanting to please. Masculine dog  with decent head, rather narrow in body and lacking angulation. Presented in very good order.

OD  (3, 1abs)

  1. Zacchariello’s  Violent Warrior Vertragus. A dog I have admired, although I have only seen him a couple of times in the ring.  I found him very good to go over. A super head and good bite, could be straighter in front, great shoulder placement and strong, well muscled neck. Very short coupled and well placed tail on strong hindquarters. He gave a good account of himself in the ring but I feel this dog is a good showman without constantly having bait waved in front of him, which is distracting and takes attention from the dog. Presentation is rather different to what we are used to here, body in close coat, whilst furnishings very long. Thought that he was going to be my CC winner at this point but in the challenge he was pipped at the post and gained the RDCC
  2. Burns’ Ch Burneze Wild at Heart. Quality male with some very strong features. Looking at him head on he is beautiful. Large broad head, darkest of eyes and dark pigment showing in the ears, big black nose and the harsh, full head furnishings, super bite with large teeth and absolutely straight front. Well off for bone. Muscular neck and clean in shoulder, found him rather narrow through body and a little shallow. Tail carried on top at all times and well muscled hindquarters. Moves well but sometimes loses his topline on move.

VD (5, 2abs)

  1. Fryer’s Ch Hopecharm Prince Harry. I felt this dog shouted correct, with his excellent balance and type. I have admired him from the time he reappeared in the UK but to go over him at this show was a joy.  At 9 years old he proves that really good construction lasts. Nothing on this dog is overdone. He has a strong head with dark eyes, plenty of width across the skull and good stop and good bite. Straight front and deep chest. The very best of neck and shoulders, still absolutely clean and really well laid back. Strong body, deep in chest and short coupled, tail set bang on top. Hindquarters well angulated and well muscled. He has the whitest of coats and such good texture. I greatly admire his presentation , nothing overdone but furnishings thick and strong.  He moved true if not super enthusiastically  but he is undeniably top drawer for me. BV,DCC, RBIS
  2. Fisher’s Bobo Whiskey.

PB (2, 1abs)

  1. West’s Tomlyndon Able Mabel. A very animated young lady, full of vigour and very well handled. She is strongly boned with a super head and expression and good bite. Straight front, muscular neck and at the moment a touch heavy in shoulder. She seems to have matured quickly as she is deep in chest and strong in body, short coupled  and tail bang up all the time, Very strong hindquarters with plenty of muscle, these attributes were most apparent when she powered round the ring. BPB

GB (2, 1abs)

  1. Bradbury’s Fourastay Fedora.  Sister to the winner of JD, she has many similarities. I was very impressed with her on the table. She also has a strong head with good ear set and deep stop. Good bite. She has a clean straight front and well laid shoulders. Short coupled and probably body wise she is a little more mature than her brother. Strong hindquarters and well set tail.

PGB (1. 0)

  1. Hands & Strand’s Crinan Carousel. A strongly made bitch with good bone and substance. She has a super head, broad skull and muzzle, large nose and a great bite. A little heavy in front , short coupled, tail well set and carried. Well muscled hindquarters and she moves truly. Again she stood alone and would have benefited by having others in the class to make it more interesting for her.

LB. (2,1abs)

  1. Feminine bitch with a super outline and well balanced, pleasing head with dark pigment, straight front. She excels in neck and shoulder placement, short coupled and tail well set. Good angulation and muscled hindquarters. She was a prime example of switching off and deciding that she had no interest in the proceedings, making it a very difficult task for her owner. A shame as she is so well put together.

OB (5, 2abs)

  1. Lilley & Milling’s Lilmill Catch Me if you Can. A well constructed bitch, of very good type. Feminine head with a keen expression.  Straight front, muscular neck running into  well laid, clean shoulders. Good depth of rib and very short coupled. Tail bang on top and carried well. Strong, muscular quarters. It is a pleasure to watch this girl move, precise with great reach and drive and holding her topline all the while, All so natural. RBCC
  2. Zaccariello’s It Ch Zoom Zoom’s Attitude.  Different in type to 1 and up to size. She has a good outline, a little exaggerated for me. Lovely head, with plenty of width across the skull, good stop, well made up under the eye. Strong, broad muzzle and good bite. Very strong neck but a little heavy across the shoulder, however they are well laid.Short coupled, deep rib and tail well set. Very strong hindquarters and she uses these to advantage on the move.

VB. (2,1abs)

  1. Windram’s Carlola Show Girl. 8 years old. Generally well constructed , with good head and expression. Well laid shoulders and good reach of neck, topline a little slack now but hindquarters well angulated and strong.

Ch B. (2, 1abs)

1. Burns’ Ch Burneze Maid to Order. Super says it all. So well balanced, holding herself perfectly at all times, whether standing or on the move. Beautiful head, broad across the skull, defined stop, dark eye, creating the correct expression. Strong, muscular neck running into clean, well laid shoulders, short loin and strong body with deep rib. Tail bang on top and such strong, well angulated  hindquarters. She moved effortlessly with a perfect topline, showing all the time as though she had read the breed standard herself.  BCC, BIS
