WELKS 14 Judge

WEST HIGHLAND WHITE WELKS 14 Judge(s): MRS PAT BARRELL West Highland White Terriers Thank you to all exhibitors for allowing me to judge your dogs. I was surprised to find out how much the breed has altered, namely the heads – lack of stop, flat dome & round eyes. Teeth have improved since I last judged & I only found one incorrect bite. Glad to see though they were all clean. Coats were very mixed in texture, but what has happened to the 5cm 2in length stated in the Standard? There was variation in size & quite a few were lacking in substance. Movement on the whole was OK. What did worry me though was the amount of chalk or similar substance in the fringe over the eyes, some of the dogs had chalk in their eyes. Should they have so much fringe over their eyes (they are not Old English Sheepdogs) the eyes should be seen. Lastly my thanks to my two stewards who kept the ring running smoothly. MPD 1 Hammett’s Hollowview Brannigan, raw puppy, good head & pigment, harsh coat, correct bite. Does not want to grow much more. PD (4) 1 Dale’s Hopecharm Ed Turner at Lynnsto, good head, correct shoulders, running into straight back. Movement OK. Coat medium; 2 Squire’s Kimgarwyn Pickle, slightly larger than 1. Good shoulders, straight back, correct bite; 3 Ash’s Hillcloud Jupiter. JD (3) 1 Dale’s Lynnsto Candyman, does not want to grow any more.
